Though doleful, McClaren spoke with dignity and refused to blame anyone else for the shortcomings his side showed throughout their botched qualification campaign. "I could make excuses about injuries, bad luck and decisions but ultimately we had 12 games to qualify and we didn't do it," he said. "That's failure. I said 18 months ago that I'd live and die by results and the results haven't gone my way."

That's kind of making excuses though, isn't it.

Why didn't he just say "Thanks for the cash, losers"?

Tim, at the end of the day, you're a Sunderland fan who appears to have a soft-spot for ManUnited ... really, Shearer's got no chance with you, has he?!

Perhaps we should get Beckham in? Just cos he's 'won stuff'. Or one of the Neville Bruvvers?! :evil4:

In fact, maybe this lad is angling for the job? He does have a point!

No, I'm a Worcester City fan who enjoys watching Sunderland and Man Utd when they are on the telly. Worcester City mean much more to me than any other club ever has and ever will, when I played the game and since I've been reduced to watching it. Never had anything against Shearer as a player, he delivered when he played for England on many occasions, I just don't think what England needs right now is someone who isn't an experienced coach. The fact he's a Geordie is irrelevant to me, the only rivalry I understand in football is against the K bastards, and the chances of Kidder ever having someone up to scratch as a manager are nil. The BBC have always been so far up his arse though it makes the whole situation laughable for me.
