I watched 'Red Road' recently.

You seen that? It's a bit grim and rather humourless. Lots of longueurs too, which just adds to the underlying tension.

Makes me so pleased I wasnae born Scoe-tish.

You needed that to remind you that it's great not to be a Jock?

In the darkest hours when I ponder such things, I always find this image helps get me back on track:

That would have been...

Mate, are we talking in terms of immovable shit stains on a nation's good name? Let's go over to the videprinter, shall we.....

4.48pm English League Football 9 (NINE) - 0 Scottish League Football

4.49pm

Morris Dancing 7 (SEVEN) - 0 The Krankies

4.50pm

Deacon Blue 1 - 1 Coldplay

4.51pm (Baldy Celtic Women International Result)

Gail Porter P - P Sinead O'Connor (match abandoned due to divine intervention)

4.52pm

Etc.

At no age did I ever run out of the room at the televisual appearance of the morismen. Those jock mutants on the other hand would have me cowering in a bedroom rocking and sobbing with sheer freakedoutedness.

The only Englishman to ever cause such a reaction is a mister R. Gervais, an alledged comedian, who has always instilled an overpowering fight or flight response in me....how refreshing to find out this very day on NOOL that he is indeed an unironic incarnation of a Mr Alfred Garnett.

And I can hardly be stonecasting when my land has bestowed such wonders as Roy hic Shaywayashee Walk-hic-er on the world. At least we kept Julian Simmons on a tight lead, if only yous had had the same courtesy with respect to Dale Winton.

Funny raising footie since nobody from any of these places plays for their team, certainly aren't 11 mancs running around for Man U. the statement "Engerlish chavball is better than jock chavball" basically translates as..... "The english, after nicking all the jocks oil, can afford better Polish and Spanish players."

Polish and Spanish? you're about 15 years behind, kiddo.

African and South American more like.

I really liked the second series of the BBC Four quiz show Only Connect, a show where you have to work out connections that don't seem apparent. It finished a few weeks ago.

Still, University Challenge (UK TV, BBC2, 8pm Mondays) lasts 31 weeks. There was a question on Blue Monday in the last series, and Cars and Just Can't Get Enough have already featured on the music round in this series.

ONE Steve? Regardless of one's political/apolitical/anti-political stance, at least get the facts right. There were ten deaths (of Republican hunger strikers) during the second strike in 1981 (including Sands) and a couple more after as the result of them. I'm not saying the strikers were wrong or right.

How can a "Best thing on telly" thread deteriorate into yet another political thread?

Oh yeah, it's NOOL...

Anyway, back to the topic.

My faves are Universally Challenged, Mastermind, Question Time, and most evenings on Film 4. The "French Film" season was very good. I'm looking forward to their "Spanish Film" season too. :)

I was ten FFS.

I can remember about 3 of them, then lost count.

Hunger strike aside, the dirty protest did WONDERS for protestant bigots...."we told you them fenians were filthy cunts" etc etc etc.

Film 4 is good though, isn't it?

spiral series two

and for channel hopping type scenarios any of those iceroadchainsawtrawlermancrabfishing in big waves with no coat on type documentaries.

weirdest channel to get stuck on when the zapper battery dies: OBE tv ( sky 207 ) the production values of acorn antiques blended with the method acting of one of roger moores eyebrows. not so much so bad its' good, more so bad it's bad

yep and well worth checking out, series one was on a couple of years back, one of those situations where the beebs scheduling policy played havoc with any chance of decent ratings and as such the very fact that series two turned up at all is indeed a blessing. a slow burner of a series but all the better for it. if HBO have a Paris office then Spiral is probably something they would put their name to.

that said it aint no Wire or Sopranos, but way ahead of anything the uk is banging out a the moment
