Mystery Science Theater 3000 Appreciation Thread :lol:

Just a little thread for those of us "MSTies" out here. I've been watching the movie a couple of times this weekend, and I finally got off my ass and ordered an episode on video ("Red Zone Cuba"), so I thought I'd start a thread of appreciation for the best show t feature a guy and two robots making fun of lousy movies......

Haven't seen it in years. Do they still show reruns on Comedy Central?

Last time I checked, Sci-Fi runs it at 8 or 9 in the morning on Saturdays (virtually guarenteeing no one will watch it )

Of course you know I'm a big fan; it's been on a bit of hiatus from sci-fi as they were promoting a new show, but it should resume it's regular Saturday morning slot now. The worst part is that some of the episodes that were done when Joel was on board can't be shown again due to complaints from some of the producers of said turkeys. Don't quote me, but I think it was people like Sandy Frank were involved with getting those shows from reairing. NOTE TO S. FRANK: Have you actually watched one of your movies recently?????

Tower had a sale on some of their VHS tapes, so I bought a 3-pack set awhile back, though their are actually only 2 tapes in the box, one is Angels Revenge, the other is a collection of the short films they used to show before the movie, and the third box had a rather swell pair of MST3K boxer shorts in it. Very nice package.

I just love the short films that used to be featured, they're a curious trip back to a different time in America (for example, how can one not watch A Date With Your Family and not chuckle over those values in an era where half of all marriages end in divorce? Or in the short Mr. B. Natural, where a woman dressed as an elf but is supposed to be a man, magically appears and makes kids take up an instrument so they be part of a group that livens up bad high school football games on a rainy night? The future ain't what it used to be is what you'll probably say when you see this collection of short films.

It was a great show, and now Rhino has released a DVD Box set that includes Bloodlust, Catalina Caper, Skydivers and the Creeping Terror. There's nothing particularly different about the set, disappointingly. It's just all the films in a box with no extras. Hopefully, they will release more soon with extras.

the sci -fi channels shows them early in the morning on saturdays, and they only show a handfull of episodes so if you watch every few months you are going to see the same episode over and over again! time for me to buy some of the dvds

Just bought the Volume 1 box set, on the back it says that the original, non-MST3K versions of the film are on the discs, as well as the trailers for Skydivers, Bloodlust, and Catalina Capers. However, I checked volumes 2 & 3 and it doesn't look like those include any extras at all, such as the original films. Such a bummer, cause I really wanted to watch Manos, The Hands Of Fate based on its own lack of merit.

i think that "The Brain That Wouldn't Die" and "Mitchell" are my favorite episodes.

I tend to prefer the movies that Joel was in, and Mitchell was the last movie he featured in, and then the switcheroo with Mike took place. Sorry to sound like a bitter old-timer pining for better days, but I also preferred Clayton Forrester and TV's Frank as the scientists rather than Pearl, but hey, it seems like the cast on the show changed quite periodically. The first voice of Crow , who was also was the first sidekick of Dr. Forrester, was Josh Weinstein, who I believe is now one of the main guys working on The Simpsons.

I love Daddy-O featuring Dick Contino as a slick hepcat trying to find his feet in a tussle with some hoodlums. Features one of the best host segment songs ever with the "Hike Up Your Britches" song (check Dick's clothes in the flick), with Joel and the robots bebopping around the set.

Check the MST3K epsiode guide book for lots of great info on the show from its first 7 or 8 seasons.

There are several episodes you can download from Kazaa. I have, and burnt them onto disc. Great shorts, great shows, keep downloading because there won't be a lot of them available for purchase.

I love the Joel era the best. Mike was ok, but there was something special about Joel.
