Just watched it again after about a year or so.

Great film but is going on at the end? Is he really just a f*cked up killer being manipulated through his wife's "incident"? Was she raped? Any ideas ?

If you've got it on Region 2 DVD there is a hidden Easter Egg where you can actually watch the movie in the correct chronological order :

Go to the special features menu, as the menu spins through the different options just before the writing "trailer" appears on the bottom of the polaroid press Enter on your remote control. You'll find you have accessed a re-edited version of the film in chronological order.

Yes, Lenny's wife was raped but she survived. She was the woman in the Sammy Jenkis story, and he indeed was Sammy Jenkis. They (Teddy and Lenny) had killed the killer ages before the story takes place but Teddy uses Lenny to kill drug dealers and the like.

Fantastic film, got it on DVD.

Yeah, that's pretty much how I understood it too. You all seen Chris Nolan's "Following"? Nice little low-budget flick that plays with linear structure.

BUT---! If you really want some seamless mindfuck-inducing movies, I'd recommend Lynch's "Lost Highway" and "Mulholland Drive." Took me about 3 viewings each to figure those ones out. Absolutely brilliant, especially 'Mulholland.'

I really enjoyed Mulholland Drive up until the point where Lynch added onto the original series pilot (ie where they find the body in the apartment) - after that it lost me completely and I still haven't recovered. However, the good bits in it are classic Lynch - my favourite is the Cowboy. Memento is a top movie - I even managed to figure it out on the first viewing, which is a rare experience for me - I'm usually the guy behind you who annoys the crap out of you by leaning over to my friend and whispering loudly "who's that guy again and why did that other guy just shoot the girl who kissed that old guy?"

Stick with the movie. It makes sense if you just keep watching it and seeing how everything fits together. Little lines like the Cowboy's "You'll see me once if you do good, twice if you do bad" can be big clues (yes, that line is a big clue for later). hmmm...I might just watch it tonight.

Yes, Lost Highway is very good especially the "I'm in your house ........how do you do that.....ask me" bit. That freaked me out. Mulholland Drive, I must admit though, lost me. And I really enjoy Lynch's films and Twin Peaks of course, but Mulholland Drive was way out for me.

The DVD director commentary certainly calls into question whether you can believe Teddy's explanation of things.

I tried to watch MD for the first time over the weekend, but abandoned the effort after about 30 minutes out of overwhelming boredom.

Did you manage to get to the scene featuring some kind of pig man at the back of the store? - that was genuinely quite surprising.

MD was long, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Definitely worth pursuing to the end, where it goes skew whif.

Do you mean behind the restaurant? Yes, that was acceptable, but I gave up during the scene with the director in a conference room and somebody taking a photograph of an actress out of an envelope.

I was never very keen on Twin Turbines in the 80's, and Moroccan Dribbler seemed more like it than any over Kenny Lynch film I'd seen in modern times. So I'm not sure why I liked it. I can't remember much about it other than it seemed very reminiscent of a made-for-tv film, so surprising your not keen Pastie.

I expect good things from The Matress Re-wired next week. I trust Mr. K Reeves, he is a curious gent.

I'm sure that Mattress II will be a fine experience, despite the freeway surrounded by nothing but dirt.

P, let me tell you, the only thing that's now putting me off the Mattress Extensive is this fabled dirt track ride! - I feel almost cheated and I don't even know what road it is. I'm sure the Stravinski Brethren will have snaffled in a couple of sky scrapers and some mini-markets on the blue screen post-production. I can't imagine just a dirt track with zero background unless, unless this is an integral part of the Mattress - maybe they are deep within the Mattress riding on springs and tarpaulin?

I'm sure when your sat enjoying popping corn and corn chips and perhaps corn dogs and corn on the cobble you will simply fizzle with excitement at the dirt road segment.

But really, as somebody pointed out to me just last night, what's it all about anyway as the initial filmed ended with Neon completing all of his tasks admirably and he even mastered dodge bullet.

Its all a bit like Tron. Except you can sort of understand The Matrices.

Regarding Mucky Drive, I am unable to comment on any further scenes apart from some quite weird cinema experience at the end which had me both baffled and reaching for the lavatory paper.

It 'is' worth watching all of the way through, as it builds momentum until it peaks with a mighty criscendo of utter confusion. Truth accepted; the initial half-hour is a bit slow.

I am deeply ashamed and embarrassed to confess, H, that I have not yet watched Shaving again. I want to be able to give it my full undivided attention, and somehow the moment has not yet arrived.

I did watch Mattress I again recently, and it is quite difficult watching Teddy and the Elf Chieftain in this very different environment.
