i have a two disc comp of brazilian stuff... there is some good stuff on their but i'll be damned if i can remember any of the names. i know that my favorite song on the entire comp is called "piaui" and the guys sings in some english: "hey hey, gee gee. take me back to piaui"

he was big in the late 60's and early 70's. he had a big hit up here called "Mais Que Nada" but the rest of his hits came from Beatles covers and doing other late-60's pop songs.
isn't Flora Purim from Brasil? i know Aierto is from Argentina, but I think Flora is Brasilian.
Only Brazilian album that I have is the one by Suba, Sao Paolo Confessions, which is a fave of mine.
I'm Brazilian and my favorite Brazilian band is Pato Fu. They have even covered Love Vigilantes. It really worths a listen.

I said that tongue-in-cheek, but actually it's not that far from reality. There are only two Brazilian groups that I would spend my money on. The first one is Violeta de Outono, a psychedelic rock group that could be described as a cross between Pink Floyd and Echo & The Bunnymen. The other one is Harry, Brazilian best electronic group ever. "Fairy Tales", their first album, is a true masterpiece that is a must to hear.
I never liked Brazilian music. Believe me, I'm not the only one here that thinks that way.

i respect your tastes in music, ricardo. but that´s a mistake IMHO. maybe is the "we´re shite and all the rest is good" syndrome. that happens a lot in south american countries. and it´s wrong because we have great talents. people that make tours around the world and are respected everywhere but in their countries. as you get older you start valorating some of these artists. but it may be too late. like argentinians with Piazzolla....

no, you missed my point completely. you don´t HAVE to like them. it´s up to you. and if you like them don´t do it because they´re your countrymen, do it because they´re excellent artists.... simply as that 
look, i know you brazilians for a long long time (nearly all my life) and i just keep hearing from you guys again and again how shitty your culture is or your artists or your music. i keep hearing it from argentinians all the time too. but it seems you´re even harder to yourselves than we are (and that´s a lot). and i can´t understand it because IMHO Brazil is the country that have produced most of the greatest artists of the continent (USA and Canada included) in the 20th century.
i do think you guys need to be more open minded. you have to open your ears to the music and leave the predjuices behind. and you´ll find a lot of beauty quite near you. it´s cool to love new order (i do) but.... what else?
and don´t worry, i will ask you in 30 years (i hope we still be friends and alive ;) ) and i bet you´ll say i was right.... i really hope so

Yes, they are from Minas Gerais. The only LV version I have seen available is the live one. It would be good to have another one, since the sound is not that good. About thinking that every Brazilian pop band sucks I think it's almost accurate since it is valid for 99% of the pop stuff here in my opinion. But there are some bands that I've got to like some songs: Pato Fu, Titãs, Barão Vermelho, Skank, Paralamas...
Eh, I hate to continue the stupid-American image, but, sadly, the only music I've heard from Brazil was that song that went with the Lambada from about 12 years ago. Wasn't it by Kid Creole and the coconuts? But, it's pretty much forgettable as the Macarena.

the lambada! i remember that! what a piece of sh*t!!! if you want to listen to some brazilian music i think you should start for the classics from the bossa nova to the mpb (brazilian popular music). if you are interested i could recommend some stuff... do you like some jazz from time to time? or do you like good rhythm with a lot of percussion? or both? or none?!?!?!? :D
that could be a good game. tell us what you like or what would you like to hear and we could recommend artists from this side of the world (Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Chile, Bolivia, Perú, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Paraguay). come on! ask us! don´t be shy!

Anything rock - as long as it does not sound like nu-metal or Bruce Springsteen - is good and so is most jazz, as long as it's not Kenny G :barf: .
Pretty much, I don't mind much, as long as it's not rap. I had to sit through French Celtic rap in my college French class and well...

i liked the first 3 albums of them. they used to play ska ala madness or selecter. it was funny, danceable and pretty well played. suddenly they made a turn and started to play some salsa, rumba and other latin styles mainly influenced by Rubén Blades and Celia Cruz. but IMHO you must be very good to play these things and they´re not. nevertheless they had a couple of good songs of that era. check their english site http://www.fabulosos-cadillacs.com/
Babasónicos sounds like it could be the band. are they pretty famous in the spanish speaking world? the crowd was pretty big (a few thousand people).

Ah yes, the lambada! I remember a wonderful movie from a few years back, about some wonderful people trying to save the rainforest by dancing the lambada! Ahh, the sweet memories of youth... I think you're thinking about "Forbidden Dance," which actually had one of the stars of David Lynch's Mulholland Drive early in her career. There was another movie, released on the same day I heard, called "Lambada." But they've both created new lows in movie making.

i have a friend in Tijuana who was really excited about them. he kept bugging me to go to the show. i ended up down there all day, with my fiance, and we didn't find my friend until the end of the night. but even then, it was still a good time
