Are they really not sure they want to tour? I would think that they'd be wanting to build buzz...

I guess the idea is to know the VENUE before announcing anything... and make sure everything is signed on paper so nobody who reads it on the internet is pissed for booking flights and hotels at the wrong date...

As Nicos says, these things have to be signed and sealed first. They can't announce dates until all the I's are dotted and T's are crossed. The final two dates weren't, I believe, confirmed till Monday.
BTW Al, Sultant said "more dates to come", this is the only thing that puzzles me there..

Typical. All I need do now is work out whether to fly to/from Chicago and get an internal transfer to NY, or to fly to/from NY and get an internal transfer to Chicago. Bastards will then announce something different as well to scupper the plans!

More dates to come certainly ... but I don't think David means the US at present.

I'm 100% sure for NYC, I'll do my best for Chicago... I was quite surprised to see that getting 3 plane tickets was so cheap actually... maybe it's because May is the lowest activity month, but it's looking good.
Where has this infomation been confirmed? In my brief search of the "other site", I did not see it mentioned.
Granted, I only need to hop on the Acela Express and I am in NYC in one hour even, but I would like a better idea of what to expect for a NYC show. Thanks!

Believe it or not, it will be cheaper for me to do all four dates than just the last two.....flights to Chicago and NY being more expensive for a four-day trip than flying to SF, internal transfers and then leaving NYC on the 6th.
Wow... I can't believe this may actually happen for NYC... now the question is.. where will these guys play..
I am gonna try and deduce where they will play by looking at various places they may perform here in NYC..
basically I think they might do these places...
1 - Hammerstein Ballroom 2 - Roseland (let's hope and pray it isn't there) 3 - Beacon Theatre ( I think this might be VERY likely, as since N.O. haven't played in NYC so long, and they hold more than the 2 above. 4 - Irving Plaza (this one is a long shot, smaller than the 2 above, but man that show would be great there) 5 - Bowery Ballroom (even smaller than Irving Plaza, but in my opinion the best live venue that NYC has had since The Academy in times square in the early to mid 90's) 6 - BB Kings in Times Square (very unlikely, very small, but another great place) 7 - Knitting Factory, also very small place, although PJ Harvey played there, but it was an music industry thing etc..
I am gonna check around those places websites, and see if they already have shows booked for May 5th...
Let's all cross our fingers that is at the Hammerstein though, good size crowd, and probably 2nd best sound next to Bowery Ballroom.
oh forgot to mention, if David Sultan really is the one who posted the date info on his site, then it is VERY likely the info is correct. To the best of my knowledge he is friendly with Peter Hook and the Factory records dude whose name I cannot recall right now.

The gigs were confirmed on Monday.
I don't think I'm breaking a confidence here, but Andy Robinson told me in an e-mail as we were concerned about booking flights.
I just got a mail from Andy Robinson... both dates are confirmed. Not that gives me clearance to post them.
Venues not known yet.. so don't ask me for tickets date just yet!

It's not plain-sailing, but it's fairly straightforward. Planning to fly into San Francisco, do Oakland gig, then fly to Palm Springs first thing Saturday morning, do two days at Coachella, then on to Chicago, then onto New York. I'm sorted cos I've got good English mates in the latter two cities. More of a social trip than anything.
Only downside is that we were under a misunderstanding that the latter two gigs might be weekend dates which would've given us a few days in Vegas after Coachella, to try win back the price of the trip! I don't think I'm gonna feel like I've had a holiday after this cos we'll be doing a certain amount of rushing around and not settling anywhere.

Well, I'll try to do both, but I'm also trying to make this as cheap as possible, because it's not really my summer vacation, so I can't go on and spend 2000$ just for 2 shows, that'd be crazy.
However, after doing some thinking, it might not be the best idea in the world to bring my CAR in New York City... parking is going to be mad and very pricy... after looking yesterday for the airfare, I was pleasantly surpprised to see that the full round trip would only cost me 377$ CDN (and that includes all fees according to Expedia.ca)...

I am just speculating here.. but according to the thechemicalbrothers.com they are not doing any shows on May 5th... hmmm.... I have my fingers crossed... let's just hope if my speculations are right, that they, The Chems, are the support act..

you know this is funny, I feel like a kid knowing that N.O. is coming around.. I never got to see them in the late 80's..
To whoever is driving in to the city not from here.. it isn't the driving that is so bad, it is finding parking.. best thing if you don't want to pay 20-30 bucks to park is to park right outside of the city in either Astoria Queens for instance, or one of the other boroughs like Brooklyn and take the subway into Manhattan.
From Astoria, queens, you are only about 20 minutes away from midtown manhattan.
Thanks Mr Jarvis for the info. May well see you over there though Coachella may not be possible. At the very least I will be looking into doing Chicago and NY. If not then its Hyde park.

also there is no need to rent a car, public transportation is really easy and reliable.
As far as where they will play in NY in '93 it was actually Brendan Byrne arena New Jersey. At that time they were playing venues of 15-20 thousand. Dunno about now though.
I doubt N.O. would play any large type place in NY... in 93 in New Jersey I missed it.
Now here in NY this time around, I can't imagine they could fill a "arena".. but I guess you never know... I mean here in the U.S. New Order gets very little radio play, and I hate to say it, but I seriously doubt they will get into any of the "alternative" radio rotation either in the US. They tried getting Morrissey into the "alternative" radio, like krock here in NYC, but it didn't fly too well. It wasn't like Krock had Morrissey on even sometimes.. they tried it, and guess pulled it because it didn't fit with the other music... but again, you never know... I mean they play Interpol and the Killers.. although hardly any Interpol though..
As far as what venues they will play here.. we can scratch The Beacon Theatre off the list, May 5th another show is taking place.
Let's all hope for Hammerstein Ballroom... holds maybe 4,000 people or so, fantastic sound. May 5th is open as of now according to.. http://www.ticketmaster.com/venue/280/
i'm thinking hammerstein too, i am worried though that all those interpol fans who have heard all great things about New Order will buy up all the tickets and the place will be too small. parking isnt too bad in the city, the 5th is a thursday so you could park in a garage for probably 15 dollars, if not parking in astoria queens is a great idea, (i live there and there is a lot of parking)
Does anyone know about Canada? Toronto seems likely for the 4th of May (fingers crossed its my B-day!!)
Yeah I know about Canada. Very dodgy place. Half of them wish they were French, the other half wish they weren't Canadian.
