Typical. All I need do now is work out whether to fly to/from Chicago and get an internal transfer to NY, or to fly to/from NY and get an internal transfer to Chicago. Bastards will then announce something different as well to scupper the plans!

Where has this infomation been confirmed? In my brief search of the "other site", I did not see it mentioned.

Granted, I only need to hop on the Acela Express and I am in NYC in one hour even, but I would like a better idea of what to expect for a NYC show. Thanks!

I'm 100% sure for NYC, I'll do my best for Chicago... I was quite surprised to see that getting 3 plane tickets was so cheap actually... maybe it's because May is the lowest activity month, but it's looking good.

Believe it or not, it will be cheaper for me to do all four dates than just the last two.....flights to Chicago and NY being more expensive for a four-day trip than flying to SF, internal transfers and then leaving NYC on the 6th.

I am gonna try and deduce where they will play by looking at various places they may perform here in NYC..

basically I think they might do these places...

1 - Hammerstein Ballroom 2 - Roseland (let's hope and pray it isn't there) 3 - Beacon Theatre ( I think this might be VERY likely, as since N.O. haven't played in NYC so long, and they hold more than the 2 above. 4 - Irving Plaza (this one is a long shot, smaller than the 2 above, but man that show would be great there) 5 - Bowery Ballroom (even smaller than Irving Plaza, but in my opinion the best live venue that NYC has had since The Academy in times square in the early to mid 90's) 6 - BB Kings in Times Square (very unlikely, very small, but another great place) 7 - Knitting Factory, also very small place, although PJ Harvey played there, but it was an music industry thing etc..

I am gonna check around those places websites, and see if they already have shows booked for May 5th...

Let's all cross our fingers that is at the Hammerstein though, good size crowd, and probably 2nd best sound next to Bowery Ballroom.

oh forgot to mention, if David Sultan really is the one who posted the date info on his site, then it is VERY likely the info is correct. To the best of my knowledge he is friendly with Peter Hook and the Factory records dude whose name I cannot recall right now.

Who of the English contingent is planning on all four dates? What are the logistics like?

I am just speculating here.. but according to the thechemicalbrothers.com they are not doing any shows on May 5th... hmmm.... I have my fingers crossed... let's just hope if my speculations are right, that they, The Chems, are the support act..

you know this is funny, I feel like a kid knowing that N.O. is coming around.. I never got to see them in the late 80's..

To whoever is driving in to the city not from here.. it isn't the driving that is so bad, it is finding parking.. best thing if you don't want to pay 20-30 bucks to park is to park right outside of the city in either Astoria Queens for instance, or one of the other boroughs like Brooklyn and take the subway into Manhattan.

From Astoria, queens, you are only about 20 minutes away from midtown manhattan.

Thanks Mr Jarvis for the info. May well see you over there though Coachella may not be possible. At the very least I will be looking into doing Chicago and NY. If not then its Hyde park.

also there is no need to rent a car, public transportation is really easy and reliable.

As far as where they will play in NY in '93 it was actually Brendan Byrne arena New Jersey. At that time they were playing venues of 15-20 thousand. Dunno about now though.

I doubt N.O. would play any large type place in NY... in 93 in New Jersey I missed it.

Now here in NY this time around, I can't imagine they could fill a "arena".. but I guess you never know... I mean here in the U.S. New Order gets very little radio play, and I hate to say it, but I seriously doubt they will get into any of the "alternative" radio rotation either in the US. They tried getting Morrissey into the "alternative" radio, like krock here in NYC, but it didn't fly too well. It wasn't like Krock had Morrissey on even sometimes.. they tried it, and guess pulled it because it didn't fit with the other music... but again, you never know... I mean they play Interpol and the Killers.. although hardly any Interpol though..

As far as what venues they will play here.. we can scratch The Beacon Theatre off the list, May 5th another show is taking place.

i'm thinking hammerstein too, i am worried though that all those interpol fans who have heard all great things about New Order will buy up all the tickets and the place will be too small. parking isnt too bad in the city, the 5th is a thursday so you could park in a garage for probably 15 dollars, if not parking in astoria queens is a great idea, (i live there and there is a lot of parking)

This thread is maddening!...where are they playing in Chicago...I know no one has an answer...but I just cannot wait until they play!!!

I jumped out of my seat when i read the word CHICAGO from Hooky the other week. But I read the news when I woke up this morning - May 3 - I had no idea they would be moving so fast! Coachella then Chicago in one week? I have finals until the 5th and they'll be in NYC by then. I am 19 and have become a huge fan and thought I could finally see them live, but now it looks grim. Us college fans are just barely still in class then and busy with finals that week!

Believe me, there is a HUGE growing appreciation in my generation for the "godlike genius" of this influential group and the like from post-punk (think Killers fans? Interpol? we appreciate the influences just as much!). I can only wait and see if something happens by May (extra dates?! waiting until the weekend for the show?!) We'd love to see you guys while you're over here! I can't wait until my abroad semester in UK in spring 06!

I'd put money on the hammerstein ballroom- I've seen the chemical bros, pet shop boys, and fischerspooner there... seems the perfect venue. Though, ideally I'd love to see irving plaza or the bowery... get there 2 hours early and you're standing practically on the stage- you can park your beer next to barney's monitor.

The Bowery seems to have a big empty slot on May 5th......and the Aragon Brawlroom seems to have a big empty slot on May 3rd......

spotnick- the venues are pretty spread out, bowery ballroom is on the lower east side, irving plaza is just off union square, hammerstien is midtown...

or- maybe they could play the Ukrainian National Home again ;)

For NYC, the question should be....

which venue has an opening for both May 5th and May 6th because I'd be willing to bet the band cannot pass up two nights in what seems to be their second favorite city....

especially at $40.00 a clip

$40.00 x 4,000 = $160,000 $160,000 x 2 nights = $320,000

and that does not even take into account merchandise....

You probably have to take away about 50 or 60% of that because of travel, booking, staff, and equipment rental costs...

I am sure they will still do pretty well...

Well, I doubt they will do the Bowery Ballroom..

to spotnick.. well most the venues are all around manhattan, but none are really that far from each other, everything is really just a relatively quick subway ride away... no big deal.. if you don't know the city well, just grab a cab I guess, but most people out here (read: non-rich) just ride the subway.

I am thinking 2 nights at the Hammerstein, after they see if the 1st sells out, that is what happened with the Pixies late last year at the hammerstein... they announced 2 live shows, then they sold out in about a couple hours, and then they added 3 more shows in the same week, those sold out, and they later added 1 more show, on the same night of the last show (an early, then later evening show). Of course the Pixies got mentioned like crazy by Nirvana's Kurt Cobain when he was alive in the press, and I guess the people who never got into them got their chance 12 years or whatever later..

Hey interpol / killer fans.. leave some tickets for us "old seniors" here too... haha..

News flash... looks like it defintely won't be in NYC at the Roseland (great, that place SUCKS.. and they kick bands off at 10:45.. sound isn't great either)

I went to see alot of shows there in the 90's and was talking to someone who worked there and they said that they have the bands agree to getting off stage before 11, so they don't have to pay their employees overtime, etc.. I personally also think the sound there sucks..

on the 5th roseland and beacon are booked, radio city is booked theater every other venue but the theater in msg(5600) and hammerstein is too small I'm sorry but there is no way they are playing the 565 person bowery ballroom or 1200 person irving plaza even in the early 80's they played to more people (and get ready didn't sell that badly)

I'm in SD, and there's no need for them to come here. One can easily go to Oakland and/or Coachella to see the Order.

i flew to SD in 2000 to see the Cure. They played at some stadium on a college campus with a 5000 capacity. nice place.

The Aragon Ballroom in Chicago? hmmm interesting. I just saw Morrissey there in October. It's a great venue. Lots of charm, and nobody is far from the talent! Plus its a great laid back place. The ceiling has fake stars in it, and the whole room is made to look like you're in the outside courtyard of a Spanish village (the second floor is a balcony all the way around and underneath on the main floor is open with bars) very comfortable environment.

On the other hand, to hear some uplifting NO in some outdoor venue on May 3 would be nice after this long Chicago winter... Too bad that my finals might keep me away from home until the 5th!

...in which of these NYC venues is it ok to sneak a digicam into? Which venues are anal and which are lax, etc. And are there bouncers who will grab your camera if they see you using it?

As far as where you can sneak a digicam into... well basically the only club I have talked about that doesn't seem to care, or at least that doesn't pat people down, is the Bowery Ballroom.

All of the other venues pat people down very well, I do see people getting in with cameras, but I believe they have put them in their crotches, where they can't pat you down, if you have a small enough camera you could do it. Once you are inside the Hammerstein, I have never seen anyone told to not take photos, etc.. just to many people to police I guess. The bowery Ballroom, though they do not pat you down, I have seen people asked to not take flash photography during the show by the same 1 bouncer guy on the inside during the shows (very small place, holds less than 1,000 if you ask me).. Hammerstein must hold 3-4,000 maybe if even that. I think Hammerstein Ballroom is gonna be it for New Order here in NYC... it is gonna be great, especially if The Chemical Brothers do NYC also (crossing fingers). Also FANTATSIC GROUP is BLOC PARTY. if you haven't heard them you owe it to yourself to get the new CD.. they are getting fairly popular in the UK. Peter Hook interviewed them somewhere I think.. i think I read about it on this site or worldinmotion.net

I agree with you on the Beacon prediction. I would assume they would announce one night and perhaps add on as needed. It's seated and holds a decent amount of people. I've seen Morrissey, Sigur Ros, Travis, Oasis, etc. there. I've been considering going to this show wherever it might be but with the Oakland gig and Coachella, financially and time wise, it doesn't look good.

However if they were to play Bowery Ballroom (which I CANNOT imagine), I would think twice about not going, what a great place to see them!
