Just wondering when NewOrder actually played at gig in the city of Chicago?
Their last stop in Chicago, they visited the "World Music Theater" which is now the Tweeter Center...before that, in 89, they visited Poplar Creek...and didn't they visit poplar creek when they supported Substance in 86 or 87???
So that makes it almost 18 years since they visited Chicago for gig...am I wrong on this one?
last time new order played chicago was summer of 1993 ,when they sold out ( i think) the world music theatre (tweeter center). they played in 1989 @ popular creek but did'nt they also play @ the Rosemont? I was too young too go. But my brother said PIL and Sugarcubes opened.

So, yes, its been 12 years since New Order played Chicago.
Somewhere in my house I have a pair of tickets to the Tinley Park gig unused as my son was born two days prior. I do have an audience recording of that show, very audience.
that was my only new order show. i was like 13 or 14. way the fuck back on that huge ass lawn, i could not see a god damn thing. i don't remeber too much from the show xcept that it was a short show, some kids were kinda moshing nearby, and q101 played an hour of new order non stop after the show and i fell asleep on the way home. and i wore my oversized cure shirt and baggy ass gerbauds or gaboes or whatever the fuck they were called.

My point was that New Order hasn't actually played within the "CITY" of Chicago...Tinley Park was not IN Chicago, as was Poplar Creek which was located in Hoffman Estates, before it closed down...
Therefore, there has been a longer period than 12 years since NewOrder played within the city limits of Chicago...This show is more important than a lot of people are granting it...
wouldn't it be considered the "greater chicago-land area"? your original post was not clear because you said 'the last time they visited chicago, they visited tinley park and before that, poular creek". tinley park was the chicago show in 93. technically, yes, it was 40 minutes outside chicago, but when bands play in the burbs cause of the bigger venues, they still say the chicago date. this show is very important considering new order hasn't played in chicago or its surrounding areas in 12 years and it may be the last time we have a chance to see them. if this show was not as important as people are granting it, i doubt ppl would be conming in from canada, europe, and other cities in the US.
Yeah Krafty One and Kamar, I agree. This show is going to be a lot more important than a lot of people may think. And I'm only 19 - never seen them live. The Aragon is actually something that can be dignified as a legit city venue compared to the large open spaces of the burbs. I very much look forward to this intimate venue and it's gonna make history, in Chicago at least. Hopefully Billy [Corgan] will be there as I'm sure there's nowhere the native northsider would rather be, and hopefully this will be on par with any act in NO's history in terms of raw energy and potency of fan appreciation. Maybe it'll feel a bit more like the early days in Madchester where it was just a get together and a bit less like an arena mega show. I'm definitely going to make the WXRT presale Friday at 10am and I highly advise it. Cheers!
The lawn at Tinley is ok IF you get there early and claim your turf in the middle next to the railing. This means do not spend $80 on beer once your get through the gate. Get to the middle next to the railing and stake your claim THEN get beer leaving the guy in the red shirt to guard your claim.

I tend to think there is a BIG ASS difference between playing Chicago and the greater surrounding area. I am highly looking forward to seeing NewOrder play in a smaller venue rather than just seeing them at Poplar Creek or World Music Theater where I was a mile away when I saw them....
They are actually playing Chicago...that is the point...it has been a long time since they visited this todd'lin town and played one of the local clubs/theaters...
I am expecting a rather celebrity riddled crowd...I will be sure do bring my digital camera to this historic show....
