Budget £2.50 upwards for a pint of decent strong continental lager in most pubs in and around the city centre. Bitter and real ales etc will probably be cheaper but spirits can be a rip off so stay away from jugs of supposed coctails....
Most annoying though, and certainly a surprise if your not used to it, is the blokes that hang around in the toilets of city centre bars these days trying to get money off you just for washing your fucking hands!

Bugger - sounds like Dublin then.

Aye, scroung bastards. I fell for this, used a bit of deodorant and got charged a quid. Its tantamount to theft.

Oh and Scots/Irish order...remember English measures are ICKLE.
A right pain in the arse for those of us who like our Brandy
I've been tryin to figure out if I can get Rich to score a gallon of Poteen of his uncle in time, that'd make the evening go with a bang. Stuff has a bad enough effect on our systems, can you imagine what a whole pile of English vikings lashed on the stuff would look like. The "next day" scene would, however warrent the playing in of Barber's adagio for strings ( note to the culturless: that's the sad tune from platoon).

I probably wouldnt be much better than the English, I cant remember the last time I had poteen . . . but that's the effect it has on you:D
no shit, it's certainly not "drunk" it gets you.....it's more like some insane halucinagen. Can't say I've ever had more than a coupla shots myself, but OMG! Makes absynthe look sane.

actually i think it originally came from freud and his theory on wit and its relation to the unconcious.

Although I may have to watch me back for 'americans' this time
Couldn't be worst than me... I had plans to sleep at somebody's place I never met, I was meeting up with people I've never met afterwards, and even worst, they were all speaking something else than french!!!!
Fortunatly I was pretty tired when I get off the plane, so it didn't show... and people paid me beer so it didn't show neither ![]()
But I was pretty dead-tired 2 days later, had to sleep something like 12 hours in NYC ;)
That's brave Spotty, bigger danglies than I my good man.
But your plane tale made me think...after 7 hours on a bus and 3 on an HSS (how they get HSS out of high speed sea going catermaran I dunno)...I'm gonna need 4 other persons to hold me vertical....and thet's BEFORE a I start boozing :)

We're nearly all a bit guilty in taking that for granted, and most of us would be fooked if we had to try and converse in another language. Respect to the big man!
thanks Ness for starting the thread, so basically I am safe in the knowledge that everything will be ok when I meet everyone for the first time. Wonder what Joshua Brookes will make of us all? I should dig out my new order t-shirts so i can be recognised. its good we are meeting at JB, thats 60 seconds walk from work, and I plan to take half day off so I'll be starting early-ish too.
Matt.

Well it will a bit - not many of the hardcore do these days.
I am predicting another outing for Mr Js brown penguin pol - it's been to more new order gigs this year than half the posters on here have in their lifetimes!
I'll be wearin me brand new ceremony shirt, and then a movement one for the way home. I will also have my very best "here are the young men" coat on.
I reckon it'll be a case of pokin my head round the door and using my mental prowess to work out whether the ones I want are all the small groups having a quiet monday afternoon jar, or the 100 NO clad maniacs singing transmission in the corner :)

No problem Matt, look forward to meeting you then :)
Joshua Brookes will probably wish that they had more than their usual Monday afternoon staff quota!
Maybe Matt can give them some advance warning if it's only 100 metres away from his work. I for one, will not be happy if I have to queue for more than 2 minutes for a beer ;)

This actually is a good idea. I nearly killed the bar staff at the Olympia the fookin' slow-arse bastards. And as for that pub before Finsbury - I was chatting to a lad behind the bar and he was like "who are all these people? Some of them have come from Manchester...!!". He was shocked - it looked like he thought people further norf than Watford all looked like Captain Caveman.
Although he might have had a point thinking about the clientele that day!!

Er, I've gone and bought another six of the fcukers since that one appeared, including a long-sleeve job in lovely velour. Boy, would you take the piss if that one appeared! ![]()
