Personally, I'm not in favour. Thought this was a one-off at the QEH, but don't like the idea of going up to Mancland already knowing that's what we're likely to get. First and foremost, I'm a New Order fan. Of the current take on Joy Division songs they're performing I think only Transmission sits level pegging live with the likes of Crystal, Regret or Temptation in the set. Just seems like a pointless exercise to me. Almost the same as saying, we're only gonna play tracks of Movement and Brotherhood tonight - and we'll make sure the audience know in advance. Just what the point is, I don't know? Wibble.

Resounding no from me. I've never been in favour of JD songs appearing regularly in the set as it is, and as much as I love JD, they finished in 1980, any NO versions don't have the full package.
I think it's a bad idea too.
I reckon a select few JD numbers should be held back and only played on special occasions such as the anniversary of IC's death or birthday. Wasn't that what they did in the 80s? Big JD fan here but there's only about two songs I think New Order can do justice to live and they are Transmission and Isolation. In general, Barney's voice just doesn't suit the majority of Joy Division's work.
It's like the band are in full-on nostalgia mode these days since QEH and this upcoming "Control" film. What worries me is there's all this talk of how great JD was and endless anecdotes regarding Ian but little talk of new NO material. They don't seem to be bothered about looking to the future, it all seems to have become about banging out Atmosphere for the 100th time :(
I just hope all this misty eyed Joy Division nostalgia won't delay the release of new New Order material (I.e. proper songs and not another True Faith remix please!).
Just another example of how idle they are. JD set means minimal input from anything other than guitars which means an easy change for the roadies on the night, fair enough but they could do AoC, Ceremony, AIIWIW, DNE etc but again they can't be arsed putting any effort in and rehearsing.
Very disappointed with 20 minutes and JD set. I wasn't particularly excited over this because of the venue, now even more pissed off. What time to go in, suppose they'll attract us early then keep us in. There isn't even a decent bar in the place it's a bloody ice hockey stadium. Pity the poor bugger making a trip over from SPain, or anyone else travelling for that matter.
Shouldn't be surprised though, they're just lazy buggers. Let's just look forward to NOOL day.
I don't think Barney's vocals are any replacement for Ian,if anything Hooky comes close on Movement. As a whole JD set,looking forward to it,in that I never saw JD live,apart from my bootleg "Here Are The Young Men" DVD.And I never saw Peel Day.And I was a little hazy at Apollo gig,due to copious amounts of booze. But as a regular fixture? No we want NO! And I want more keyboards!
Definite NO!! Jeez , as Alistair said ,only Transmission and Isolation sound great done by New Order.
And i'm very dissapointed if it is the case that they're only going to do JD at Manc v Cancer

Are you serious??? I'm not very happy about this either but wouold rather be in the presence of Barney doing the knuckle shuffle than hang around with the lame-arse no-lifes that populate this place.

Martin, I realise a double penalty miss has raised your stress levels this weekend so I'll allow you this. To clarify what I was meaning, given the choice I'd rather see New Order songs performed by a tribute band than 20 minutes of JD ones murdered by NO in a shite venue etc etc. Since they lost a rarity/novelty value they just don't do it for me. 
Novelty would be good though.
Really, I don't like those JD songs in a NO set. They just don't fit in. A complete JD set is even worse, I really fear they're destroying those songs. Stupid as it sounds, that's my opinion. Hearing Atmosphere with all the whoops feels like a kick in the face, I have no need for that. Don't get me wrong, I like those whoops, they perfectly fit in to almost any NO song, let's say like Touched, Crystal or the like, I caught myself whooping during those songs in Barcelona and in Hyde Park, but absolutely sure, I would never whoop to a song like Decades, Atmosphere or so.
Here are the young men, whoop, a weight on their shoulders, yeahhh, come ooooon!
Keep the whoops where they belong! Play a NO gig, with NO songs!

they can do and play whatever they want and this is what they will do - i suppose...It was nice to hear them playing old JD material many years after Ian died and just because they were their songs too! a whole set with JD material, played by NO is obviously a strange project...And i don't easily the real reason of this idea..Maybe to support Control ??? and some JD songs are so far from what we usely see/and get from Barney...But anyway idon't know the man:\ohwell: ther's maybe a Barney Dark side - darkest than the one he showed us with his N.O performances.His charisma is different than Ian's.He 's not this hightly expressive singer but it can be a way to try.PLay JD material in a different style (like they did with Isolation) is an interesting experience.THis is maybe what they wanna do ??? LWTUSA or ATmosphere or even SHe's lost Control are not very far from the JD'versions.Digital also.It's nice when u see them playing these songs on stage but it would be nice too to hear them doing it in a more personal way...(pourquoi pas ?)
New Order aren't Joy Division. Simple.
NO may be the best JD tribute act in the world, but to only play JD songs is self-defeating. To play only JD songs means theya re looking back instead of looking forward, and that's the beginning of the end for any band - becoming a nostalgia act.

If its a short set and they play them with a modicum of care and respect for absent friends, I think it would be worth the money. If Mr Sumner puts his whooping hat on and massacres them (e.g. HP LWTUA) then he deserves a good kick in the conkers! Isnt it the reality that most fans are solely NO ones of the modern era? Dont think I'd be too chuffed going to see Peter Gabriel and hear him churn out 1970's Genesis numbers without warning..

I agree. What also is confusing to me is their re-naming themselves JD to do songs for Control...didn't they make a pact during the JD days that if any member left the band that it would cease to be called JD forever? Is Ian resurrecting himself for Control?
They've got the right to play whatever they want.
New Order in a sense is Joy Division… don't forget about that.
Of course the voice of Ian Curtis was special, nobody deny it.
But some of you actually paid to see a set of Joy Division by New Order, and it wasn't that bad… was it ? Cause it didn't sounds like.
I'm ready to hear and to see a set of Joy Division by New Order because I'm basically a New Order fan and I'll take any chances to see them performing good music.

You obviously have never heard the Hyde Park version of "LOVE! LOVE WILL TEAR US APART! YEAH! COME ON!!!!!!!!!!!!", which, all things considered, was about as enjoyable for me and everyone else who's commented on it, about as respectful as pissing on a statue of Chrust.
whoever Chrust is, by the way. If they must do JD songs, they can at the very least not make them sound like the singer is a motivational coach for a sports team.
I'm not talking about a specific song… I think that the tribute to John Peel was good…
