I agree with this idea of JD sets, but only if NO can find a singer really able to replace Ian... which is far from being easy !

"COOOOOMMMMMEEEEEE ONNNNNNNNN!"
I'm going for the meet-up - should be a good crack - who cares what they play!

Stop it you guys, I'm spitting drink all over my keyboard due to the hilarious whoops every post!
I agree that I'd like fair warning were I going to a NO gig and they were going to play the golden oldies with whoops and cowbells and all that. Not that I don't think they have a right to play the songs or anything , but it's a great mental/aural adjustment to paying 80$ to see them playing decent versions of their own songs, nevermind paying 80$ to see whoops and cowbells on "Shadowplay" or "Twenty Four Hours"... ![]()
Oh man, that's funny.
Still, there's a perverse pleasure in seeing them enjoying themselves while playing the songs that were once considered "a bit heavy to listen to, these days". I missed HP, but I heard enough of it. ![]()
Maybe I'm too curious, but I really like the idea of seeing them performing their "old" songs live…
Would you say that you wouldn't pay them (again) to see them as Joy Division ?
and, well, I've started the "whooooop" myself for a few days ago it's good for the mental… it makes me laugh. You should try.
:D
Having suffered their butchering of JD songs for over twenty years now, I can safely say that it really wouldn’t bother me if they never did any of them again! They’ve only ever done Transmission and Decades justice. The trouble is, it’s not just the singing that is the problem. The songs are always sloppily played, riddled with bum notes, the drum patterns have been simplified to pretty much seeming the same rather than the originals (take Digital and Shadowplay for example). The songs don’t have the intensity that made them special first time around, and they are just runs through by numbers, which really isn’t satisfactory. They aren’t paying homage to their former incarnation with respectful representations, they are turning out lazy and sloppy half-remembered and probably unrehearsed parody versions.
And therein lies the problem. They can’t be arsed anymore to put the effort in and rehearse some New Order material. I am seriously in two minds about whether to bother travelling up for this one on Saturday if they are going to be inflicting another 20 minutes of half-jams a la JD on us. The ticket money’s already gone to a good cause.

Thats the problem to me - at Reading he'd made the effort and largely took some care with the vocal delivery but in general he cant carry the songs off. Maybe thats his gut pressing on his diaphragm, maybe its nerves or maybe as you say he cant be arsed. Whatever it is its just a letdown and gets a '5 out of 10, needs to try harder'. Fifty buck songs deserve better than 50 cent delivery, surely? They could be so good, if they just made the effort..
Looks like I've opened a can of worms here. I think people misunderstood my original point totally. It's not Sumner's whoops or whatever that made me initially say I don't want an all-JD set, it's just that I don't think the quality of the material - period - isn't up to much of what New Order have done themselves since. Given the choice, I'd rather have Crystal than She's Lost Control, would rather see Temptation that LWTUA, and it's got fcuk all to do with how Barney sings said tracks. I just don't think some of the JD stuff is in the same league. Full stop. Only Tranmission cuts the mustard these days. That can stay.
Curtis died, kids. Time to get over it. ![]()
I think I'll be swerving a JD mosh pit, if indeed there is one.

I'm really not sure I'd have bothered had I known this before I bought my ticket.

No, your original point died and we got over it
You can start a new thread 'New Order songs better than Joy Division' though...think you'd get some uphill in that![]()

Check out the Warsaw vid from the QEH! ![]()
Er, that was for one time only though. Died a death at the subsequent two gigs, I thought?!

Perhaps if someone gives Jack his ticket he can persuade the band to change their minds.![]()

I for one, certainly wouldn't have bothered either....furious. ![]()
Am extremely pissed of here. Why do we bother, fucking wank, shit, crap, pooh, bab, cac and the rest ![]()
Bit gutted that what I thought would be a one off at the Peel gig is being done again.
AND 20 minutes is a fuckin slap in the face an all, but to make up for it they could at least give the 'ardcore Ceremony, AOC, Sunrise and close with Temptation.
To be fair, they do what they like and always have, and as much as it pisses is aff a lot of the time, we still come back for more

At Brixton, after one particular "COME ON!! " he swept a pointed outstretched finger left to right at the upper balcony hordes and enthused "YOU LOT!"
I din't know whether to laugh or cry.
Might be quite good if they were to do one night at the Manc Apollo doing just JD songs, followed by the next night New Order.

Midlife, eh? How many people do you know who live to be 100 years old?

Yeah, like a bunch of unloved, mangey dogs creeping back to their owner for another brutal kicking.
Or summat.

Or alternatively, two nights doing nothing but New Order songs. Now theres a novel concept.
