It's a bit slow these days, I guess it's time to start a little debate...

This thread is to nominated the song from New Order you think is the most underrated, you just don't get why people don't like it and why it's not amoung their favorites...

Maybe this will end up in a poll someday!

Go ahead, and of course, explain why!

the whole underrated/overrated debate is tough because tons of people on this forum love the "hidden gems"/b-sides/album cuts that most NORMAL people don't know or care for i.e. LEAVE ME ALONE, DREAM ATTACK, LONESOME TONIGHT. Those are still underrated in my opinion but widely metioned on this forum. Obviously LOVE VIGILANTES got the shaft on RETRO so that is overlooked big time even though it appears in the live set sporadically. TRUTH on MOVEMENT is an amazing little tune as is CHOSEN TIME but both get lost behind the more popular songs from that album.

I will select TURN THE HEATER ON though as what i feel is the most underrated. It's hidden on the Peel Sessions, never played live, a tribute to Ian in a round about way and a lovely marriage of electonic and acoustic instruments.

I suppose Face-Up would qualify, I have liked that ever since I first heard it close Low-life and for the life of me cannot figure out why it's not more popular :thumb:

I always thought Vanishing Point was NO's third best song, behind True Faith and Temptation, so that's my choice for an underrated song

well, I've long espoused a love of Thieves Like Us, and like Brian, I find a soft spot for Lonesome Tonight and Turn the Heater On...so what to choose???

I'll get back to you...

Im terms of the binomy fame-quality, I think YSF wins so far...

Maybe because of the wimpy track title, plus it's on Brotherhood, so it does naturally does not get very much attention, and I agree it's an awesome track, but the lyrics could be better, but it has awesome music in the background

TPK (proper Substance version), Angel Dust, AOC, Truth, Lonesome Tonight, IALP, Your Silent Face, Procession, Doubts Even Here, actually the whole Movement album, et al.

Chosen Time, Senses, This Time of Night, Dream Attack, Young Offender, Primitive Notion

I do: it's because of the poor production on "Power, Corruption & Lies". It's a great song, I submit any live version as evidence.

Simple.. Turn My Way...

Don't understand why nobody in Europe seems to like it...

that´s one. i was shocked when people voted it for the "worst NO song ever". it was my first decision when i was thinking which song to cover. :thumb:

and i didn´t understand why We All Stand is also so criticized. i think the PCL version is good and the Peel version is great with that piano!

Two absolute gems which everyone seems to overlook are Ultraviolence (esp.live) and Angel Dust (also esp. live). Vanishing Point is great but I reckon most NO diehards do really appreciate it. Of the later stuff, I would add Everyone Everywhere and Turn My Way. :)

Great tracks, but most of these aren't underrated, in fact most of them are absolute classics which everyone accepts!

Personally, I'd say either This Time Of Night or the Music Video version of TPK.

What can I say- I love old, noisy, pulsating synth sounds.

My vote goes to Murder, totally underrated, and so different from anything they have ever done. It's so original and thrills me everytime i hear it.

i think the peel session version of we all stand is one of my favorite new order songs and the PC&L Version is one of my least.

Hard one. A lot of people here have said Lonesome Tonight but then if we've all said LT doesn't it prove just how rated it is, and certainly not under-rated whatsoever.

All the things I love, which say the general public might not be so aware of - Sunrise, Love Vig, Face Up, Age of Consent - all seem to be held in fairly high esteem by the majority of genuine fans so, again, they're not really under-rated again, are they?

Only track I can think of which goes right against the grain for most would be ... Rock The Shack! I just love the Lamacq version, especially the way that bass grumbles in at the start. However, I'm fully aware I'm in the absolute minority here!!

Hmmm......

For me it has to be THE PERFECT KISS. It did very badly in the charts, despite the fact that it is a brilliant piece of electronic genius!

That's where my vote goes, THE PERFECT KISS!!

For me, it's Procession. Usually overlooked as a B-Side, (despite the 7" in question only labelling the two sides as "Hard" and "Soft"), I love it. It's not my favourite NO track, but the ones I like better I don't think are underrated, eg Elegia, Ceremony, side 2 of Technique, Leave Me Alone, etc because most fans rate them quite highly.

Procession is a great tune, from the opening/closing synth drone to the excellent lyrics. Here is Barney stepping out from the shadow of Joy Division: "A mass of harmless attitudes/attack them or subside/no matter what you say or do your heart meets you/late at night". Easily as good as anything he's written since and much better than a lot (I mean, compare this with, say "state of the nation/our salvation" or "the sun was beating down on me ... I had to go to sea", etc and you could hardly believe it's the same writer!).

Although EGG is great, I think the fact that Procession was dropped for the 12" is such a shame. And Substance didn't help by relegating it to the B-Sides section.

All in all, I reckon that constitutes "underrated".:)

Could be wrong on this, but didn't Steve pen the lyrics for Procession, and not Barney?

And for Everything's Gone Greener, TPK has also come in the top 3 of every poll we've done here regarding NO songs, so it's certainly not under-rated here. Cheers.

DON"T DO IT is Great & Power instrumental song. New order should start their sets with Don't Do It!
