A quick review:
THE CURE have announced they will release a four-disc box set featuring B-sides and rarities early next year.
The box set, entitled ’Join The Dots: B-Sides And Rarities’, covers the bands work from 1978 to 2001, and features 71 tracks, including covers of Jimi Hendrix’s Purple Haze, and The Doors’ Hello I Love You'.
Just goes to show which is the superior band.
And now I'll prepare for my apartment to be firebombed...

hmmm, yeah i know. but why keep suffering from that? i think Retro was their "best" shot at this moment in time. i wouldn´t expect too much until they finally broke up or retire or whatever. THEN we´ll have to worry if Mr. Hook starts pulling tapes out of his closet! are you saving money for that moment?

Totally agree with Al on this one, very desperate for any band to start doing boxsets. Afterall there is nothing new in half of them including the JD & NO ones to be totally honest. I notice that many are quoting other bands box sets, some in jest I know, but for me the only band that have really released a worthy boxset is Throbbing Gristle. This was 26 live shows so totally unique.

Actually Al, this project was started 5 years ago on The Cure's website, they did this because their fans asked them to do it....
They release a greatest hits only to get out of their recording contract, and now they can do whatever they want.
Right now they are doing exactly that, with the Trilogy concerts and the rarity boxset.
Imagine if you were a New Order fan and the band would decide to do 3 nights in Manchester doing PCL, Low-Life and Technique in 3 nights back to back, release a DVD of the full 3 shows, the release a Retro ONLY aimed at hardcore fans with all the rarities we always wanted...

Actually, let's talk about the singer's solo album cover from a couple of years back, the startling My Beauty (might as well wreck this thread anyway.........)

I remember seeing a picture of him in Q or Mojo a few years back, all decked out in a skirt and high heels....and anyone who says I still have that picture is a dirty lier!
What pisses me off is the lack of video dvd by the band. They had a great chance with International and retro to release a dvd with it. Pet shop boys, Erasure, Duran duran are all releasing their videos on dvd. Depeche Mode have already released their videos 2 times now. With retro they could have released a reto 4 dvd set. (1st the videos. 2nd Rare and alternate videos. 3rd TV performances & Interviews. 4th Live concert footage from all the tours.) Now that would be a great dvd. Even Electronic should release a dvd with all their videos and the cities on the park concert which was recorded. That would be a nice finish to the band. Even Monaco/Revenge should do the same. I know some people have Potsey's E-mail. Why dont they ask?

my thought is this. if there´s something that new order never did is to put "all the eggs in one basket". why should they change that? they released international and retro when there wasn´t any news on the front. so i guess the dvd will come when no more singles are avaible of their forthcomming album, so they could include them. but they will do it. it´s just that making the numbers it could be later on 2005! 
i didnt buy international. i already have substance, best-of, and the box set. i was actually disappointed in retro, with the exception of the live cd and remix cd, most everything else can be found on previous releases on cd. the cure box set at least is all bsides and a few remixes of singles, and they have plans to release the new album sometime next year. the only thing that bugs me is the re-issues of all the albums which will be digitally remastered and contain one extra track (most likely a bside). kamar
Yes, I prefer the PSB's remastered albums...
Same CD + one CD of extra material from the same era...
Considering this, it could be even more valuable than Recycle..
Movement would have a 2nd disc with In A Lonely Place, Ceremony, Homage, Theme and whatever the demos you can find...
PC&L would have EGG, Procession, Temptation, Blue Monday, the Salvation tracks since it is said they were from these sessions...
Low-Life would have Thieves Like Us, Murder, Confusion, plus 12" versions & B-Sides of Perfect Kiss & Subculture.. even maybe the Elegia, though that would fill a CD...
Brotherhood with Shellshock, State of the Nation, Touched by the Hand of God and True Faith...
Technique with all b-sides, The Happy One
Republic with all mixes & Vicious Circle
Get Ready with remixes & Here To Stay & B-Sides..
Everything digitally remastered.. I would SURE buy that anytime they would do that...
(Sorry for the missing tracks, but you get the picture.. I have yet to find a spot for the 1994/1995 remixes)

I think one bit that gets overlooked whenever a comparable band releases something like this (or Echo and the Bunnymen's box set from a couple of years back) is that New Order just weren't that prolific. You could probably put all their B-sides on one disc, their unreleased songs would take about 20 minutes and live they only did 3 covers (apart from Joy Division) that I know of: When I'm with you, Sister Ray, and the Ostrich. And those all sucked if you weren't there.

I'm "happy" to have a box set w/ rare tracks on it, but TG did it right - something for the hardcore fans. If only the Order would follow suit.
