Why? Is it cos he comes across as the orders main man, so like a President or a Prime Minister he takes the most flack, even though those dishing the flack know they are better off with him than without him. I can't belive so called fans of the band have slated him, only a few mind but it still does'nt add up. Can you imagine someone else singing his lyrics in either NO or Electronic, I can't and not many bands can say that, most lead singers can be replaced, certainly in this day and age. Or is there something darker out there, are there pure Joy Division fans who resent New Orders success, there must be some reason to all this bollocks as the bloke is either getting slated for his weight, voice, lyrics, dancing or whatever!

Dario...I command you to drink a Boddingtons...![]()
actually, I reckon he brings up a good point...why do we love to give him a hard time???
actually...I'm quite glad he's not perfect...at least you know he's actually singing when he's up there...can the same be said for Britney, Shania or even Kylie???
and while he might want to consider hiring a choreographer, he does at least look like he's enjoying himself...can't say the same about when I saw him here in the states in 89 and 93...
oh well...maybe I should go have a beer now!!!
Mr Free The Chef, don't worry mate, the boddys are flowing and will continue to as soon as I hit Crewe's Friday night pub culture! Anyway, as for Mr S, it seems Hooky is looked at as the cuddly member of NO, now I think PH is class, but why do some so called fans champion the bass god and slate poor old Barney, there both class, but Barney IS New Order in my eyes, more boddys please!!

The music aside, Barney's the one who doesn't like gigging.
That's not nice for us now, is it?
Used to not like gigging Al, in recent interviews he claims to enjoy it now, even if he does'nt like giging its still no reason to slate him, without him there would be no New Order, simple as that!

...but isn't he to blame for the lack of variety in the set lists? and surely he should take some flack over the autocue? very un-New Orderish...
Why have you all got it in for him, is it old hat to slate Wilson so know you have to move on to a new victim, only your new victim his the reason why we log onto this site!! I thought you yanks built ya hero's up anyway?

we do...often, too much so...but no one's perfect...not even the Barnster.:D

Has he said this? Considering they've not played live for 18months, and we probably won't see them for another 18, if we're lucky, that doesn't strike me as the mark of man who enjoys gigging.
Indeed, without Barney there would be no New Order. But then same goes for Hooky, so I don't understand your point.
New Order would survive without Hooky, his bass is easier to rip off than Banrey's voice, although Hooky did try and rip Barney off in monaco with Dave Potts on vocals, a poor mans Barney if ever there was one

though I'm not a bass player...I'm not too sure about this.
Al, check out the booklet you get with Retro, this is where Barney states he enjoys touring, like most bands, untill they have new material to air there wont be any gigs for a while
I don't get the whole "let's hate Barney" thing either. I reckon half the people who criticise him are jealous because he's doing what they'd like to be doing themselves. Just a thought.

I did New Order in Stockholm at the end of 2001, and as was already rumoured, New Order were expected to play the BDO's in Australia about two months after that. It was a 95% done-deal but the rest of the band, and their entire entourage were waiting til the very last minute for Barney to decide whether he was/wasn't gonna agree to the gigs. He made his decision the day after Stockholm. Thankfully, it went the right way. All those fcuking people though, waiting on one man's ego.
He also - supposedly - refused US gigs in April 2002 which were pencilled in.
I don't care what he's said in print, the bloke is the principal reason since 1989 that New Order have cut back on the touring. I mean, how heavily did Electronic gig compared to, say, Revenge and Monaco?!
Hooky's the heartbeat of New Order, Bernard might care, but not to the same degree.
However, New Order without either of them wouldn't be New Order at all.
I hate to say it but you could buy and sell a 1000 Hookys, without sounding bent there really is only one Barney, New Order would be nothing without him

Nope, sorry, that sounds really bent. ![]()
Ha ha, I guess a 32 year old bloke singing the praises of a 48 year old with dyed blonde hair does sound dodgy!!!
Let's call the whole thing a ruddy nice chap and call the whole thing off!
Bernard better than Hook? Electronic better than Revenge? Live better than studio? For God's sake, who cares? This is school playground banter and should stay there.
New Order are unique, no-one can equal them. All four are ten on ten. There are no faults. It's all great. Bring on the new album...
THE END. ![]()

I guess its better to find this out now, rather than in March 2002, so that I could have gotten my hopes up for a gig nearby, only to have them ripped to shreds.
Can't really blame Barney though. W/ all that was (and still is) going on in the world at the time, I can understand his decision. I'm sure he had other reasons, as well.
Originally posted by Al Jarvis However, New Order without either of them wouldn't be New Order at all.
Agree. Although I've always had a hard time identifying Gillian's specific contribution to the band's music, for me "it" wasn't the same knowing that she didn't participate these last few years. From my nostalgic perspective, it takes all four of them to be New Order.
Mike, did you take that photo of juliet in tesco? ![]()
Everyone knows a barney, Everyone knows a Hooky, even "Barney" and "hooky" sound like one of the boys down the pub. Everyone prefairs the hooky, cause hes always in the mood for a pint and a chat,
the ladies prefair the barny, cause hes aloof and cool!
Hence: Barney bashing.

Oh right, no, I meant the fact you drink Boddington's sounds really bent! ![]()
i can love new order and the amazing music they create AND see the less than ideal qualities of the individual members. that's newOrder's magic. on their own they're not the worlds greatest at their instrument but together they transcend. i bash bernard because even though i love listening to him sing, (even on Hurt and Thieves Like Us!) his use of the auto-cue, his whistling and whooping constantly and in predictable places, his reluctance to tour and his extremely sub-par lyrics make him the easiest target. sure i never got into newOrder for the lyrics but jeezus a whole album of instrumentals would beat another verse of Slow Jam-y shite.
