I think Guy Debord I spotted in 'nearly there's avatar had some prescient comments on our love/hate affair with 'stars'.

"In the final analysis, stars are created by the need we have for them, and not by talent or absence of talent or even by the film industry or advertising. It's miserable need, the star is the projection of this need.

A year doesn't go by when people we loved haven't succumbed, for lack of having clearly grasped the present possibilities, to some glaring capitulation. But the enemy camp objectively condemns people to imbecility and already numbers millions of imbeciles; the addition of a few more makes no difference. The first moral deficiency remains indulgence, in all its forms.

Order reigns, it doesn't govern".

I thought this thread was gonna be about luring him with a trail of donuts. But then again...in a way it is.

To be honest I can't think of a job I'd hate more than playing the same flippin thing night after night across the country. You're either built that way or you are not. And its kind of not even your choice, it seems the set is full of stuff 'da fans' expect but they are sick of playing. To be honest I'd go and see them again if they'd drop the same old same old and did some interesting stuff from the back catalogue, in fact anything that made them happy, even covers. But thats not going to happen for many reasons...

#1 da fans expect to hear same old stuff even if its obvious you really dont want to play it yet again #2 backing tapes #3 related to #2 - no Gillian

I mean did you see Steve on 511... now is that a man who is bored or what?

so in the end, I don't blame Barney at all, he probably just wants to write.

Poor old guy, tortured soul.

In the biggest twist since kissingers peace prize, did the fact that he became a minor celebrity result in his suicide 10 years ago? :(

On an aside, does the consumption of drugs aid or eliminate participation in the spectacle, or in spectacular society. For example, should i go to the carling black label music festival organised by your local council and cops, having munched some pills, am i (as an individiual) being "subversive", or just at their gig on e ?

I gave myself a smile to see "leaving the 20th century" at the saville show!

What about the other 2? NewOrder are more than barney and hooky. :evil4:
