Have they picked a producer for the new album? Steve Osborne? Arthur Baker? New Order? If they haven't picked a producer we're still at least 6 months from the first single coming out right?
Who's producing the new album?

Where did you hear that? Radio program, magazine, inside source? Stephen Hague would be a step backwards as far as i'm concerned.
I liked hagues work. the republic sessions must have been a right pain in the arse. true faith is my favourite new order song. beats anything even off technique or j div! ![]()
I've read they're still trying various producers.
The petition to release the Apollo DVD has reached 83 signatures so far... not bad! Thank you, keep them coming! ![]()
a mix of producers.... hmmmm.... it could be good to have an album with variety of styles and shapes, being each song a unique part, and trying to achieve perfection in small levels at a time. interesting though it could be messy if not done well.
on the other hand having one producer makes the album sound like one, with an intention and flow from the beginning to the end. the prefection here is searched as an all.
They're trying producers to choose one, I think I've read names somewhere but I can't be sure anymore, can't find the page now... anyway I think Hague would be unlikely, while Osborne would have more chances...
i remember reading hooky say that barney and steve osbourne had a lot of rows during the making of GR so he could be out of the running??
i'd like it to be arthur baker personally![]()
personally i think they produce themselves better than any of the others ive heard, although they have said on a few occasions they would like to work with david bowie on production. and tbh im quite suprised it hasnt happened but who knows maybe one day eh?.
they should snag the chemical brothers after the success of 'here to stay.' i mean, it was better than anything on "get ready."
"Here to stay" was successful? I don't know anybody other than people on this site who even know New Order still makes music. Also, the Chemical Brothers have fallen from grace a bit, their last album sucked and their new single doesn't do it for me either, even with K-OS guesting on it. (I think it's K-OS) At any rate, maybe 5 years ago the Chemical Brothers would have been a good idea, and I love them to death, they will be awesome again but not through New Order and vice versa.

Sorry, I didn't mean successful chartwise--just musically, and that's all that really matters. Therefore, the Chemical Brothers are my choice, regardless of what their own work has been like of late.
I'd also love the Chemical Brothers to produce a full album, but since the album is said to be guitar oriented and back to the JD days, I don't think it would be easy.
But you know, they still produce themselves even if they hire a producer.. just check Run Wild, that's pure Bernard, and you have Steve Osbourne's mix on Retro...
I'd personally be curious to see what Moby could do ;)
They do need a producer, otherwise there would probably be too much friction within the band... of course I love Arthur Baker, but we know they want to keep a darker rock sound, which would recall Joy Division. I'd really like them to work with Chris Nagle (Hannett's engineer), after the excellent job he did with Gabrielles Wish, it would certainly be Hooky's joy, thinking about Nagle's amazing bass treatment, while maybe Barney's too lazy to play guitar like Nagle would want. Steve is ready, he's still the human drum machine. It may be just too hard to work with him, he's not an easy person... as you can read on Nick Harris' article on the site Gabrielles Wish nicknamed him Darth Vader... he's a genius though...

That would be because you live in Canada. ![]()
Or because you really need to get out more?!

Mick, maybe it's just me but I'm sensing a common theme running through your posts here.
Do you like Gab's Wish?! ![]()
For the new album, I'd like either a) a 20-track 2CD soundscape behemoth which takes in everything from icy techno to old-skool Manc grimness, or b) a 'bash it out in a week' sketchbook.
Or both would do.
For a) Trevor Horn is yer man. They could produce b) themselves.
i think people here are really saing what kind of album they want the next one to be.
Hooky "it was great having steve osbourne in the studio, cause he could take all the flack"
does he mean off bernard so?
if they are returning to a jd sound, then (much as id love to see it) baker is out.
on the up side, he still seems to be mates with them. I dunno. Knowing Neworder, theyll surprise us![]()

Nic, I'll tell you what Moby can do - he can FUCK RIGHT OFF, THE POMPOUS LITTLE BALDY TWAT!!!
I'd forget all about The Chemical Brothers, Osbourne, Hague, Baker etc if I was NO. Only Baker has the talent to bring anything more than a generic template sound to NO's music, but I'd worry that he would date it - y'know - mid- 80's *thick* beats and all that. They should work with someone new and unexpected or do it themselves.

Maybe because I am Canadian, but New Order is pretty popular here, just not their new stuff. British bands are huge here. Coldplay, Doves, Depeche Mode...jesus even Dave Gahan's solo album made a bigger splash than Get Ready. (I love Dave but Paper Monsters was not very good)
You know what, New Order easily has the talent to make a huge dent in North American sales but production and promotion are going to need some work and I think Arther Baker would be the man for the production end of the job. I will admit, one could do a lot worse than the Chemical Brothers.
I'm pretty sure it was Stephen Hague's name I read, but it was on the PopBitch website so take it with a pinch of salt.
fwiw I thought the Chemical Bros last album was pretty good and they're in tune with what NO are about eg their live version of Temptation that leads into Star Guitar, but they're not suited to a guitar-based sound.

*Eh eh sorry... yes! :D
I'm obsessed with them as with New Order (well, almost), who pop up in my posts on other forums like Gabrielles Wish do here. With them it's more serious because New Order have had success but GW haven't at all and I feel it as a huge injustice. Add the fact I have the privilege to serve my (technically) poor efforts for their site and you get a very ill fan.
Anyway here it was just I thought at Chris Nagle for New Order and so it was obvious to mention his finest work as a producer. If you imagine the varied sounds of songs like Simple, Mary Bobbins, Blow Job, Hood or Get Up applied to New Order's music, well it's really exciting... it could sound like a more evolved version of Movement (where he was the sound engineer)...

*I don't think so, he worked with them on Behind Closed Doors and it doesn't sound like dated 80s electro at all...
One name...
Ricardo, euh hum... Brian Eno ?
I believe there is no U2 album that are not well produced.
I'd suggest Garbage as well (well, not Shirley, but the 3 others, they are producers after all), and I know they are fans of New Order (Sherley always sing a bit of Temptation at the end of the song I'm forgetting right now)...

and don´t forget Twisted Tenderness. you could like it or not but certainly it doesn´t sound dated at all.

Yeah with New Order, you might was to utilize their 20+ year history which includes the use of beats/synths and that doesn't make it 80s-ish. You see after convincing my friends that New Order was still a band and to listen to Get Ready (kidding, sort of) their complaint was that it didn't sound like New Order. Going to a total 80s style would be stupid but I dunno, I still think Arther Baker might be just the right answer, especially for getting them a bit more on the radio and what not.
I didn't know that about Behind Closed Doors, interesting, and not a bad direction to take (obviously album tracks would be better overall than Behind Closed Doors)

I was actually going to say that, just for fun. I just can't imagine Eno working with New Order.
Steve Osborne did a great job on "Get Ready" but I doubt New Order will recruit him again. They are always trying to do something different than before, I think they will try someone else.
i agree BCD was a great track. i know what you mean though, some other remixes sound bad. but then they are remixes.
personally i'd like to see Danny Sabre take a shot (produced black grapes second album). It may work or it may not.
