It could have been worse Shug, I drew the venue money out of the bank on Saturday, ready to give N+Day , thank fuck the setlists weren't ready , the Greek lads pullin out saved me some dollar in the end ... Very dissapointed though both on a personal level, and for the other lads and lasses who got involved as it went along. From my point of view as joint organiser, yes the London Barney thing is the major downer on proceedings. Even though he is only doing a DJ set, the lure of the remote possibility that he may play the new NO song is gonna be quite strong for a lot of people based in London - the thinking being that people can get there on the Tube and spend their money on lager rather than having to pay x to get train up to Manc to see a couple of covers bands. Our target audience for this event is split between the Manchester locals who would be at the venue anyway/interested in a JD/NO event of this type, and the NOOL UK punter, the socially active majority of who are based in London. Obviously we'd still get the hardcore, and their support is much appreciated, but its the additional punters that we need to attract, ones who are more likely to want to see the real deal posing around a DJ booth, cos it is easier. As we are trying to put on a London show on the Friday night immediately before this Sunday, with much the same bands involved, it might be asking just a little bit much of people to expect them to travel up to Manchester as well when there is a viable London alternative that day. At the end of the day it all comes down to gold coins - we're starting with a loss and need a 100+ crowd both to break even and to show that we mean business. September/October will be the event that we want it to be.

You could always play in Aberdeen, Tim: coastal resort, great-looking women, solid NO/JD fanbase (I even saw someone wearing an Unknown Pleasures t-shirt the other day)...by Christ, it could almost be California!!

Having only been on these boards a short time, I dont have any awareness of the social side of nool , whether the support would be large or small, so I gotta go with what I know. Going off the Gretton thread, there are about 14 definites, charitably if I round that up to 20, a nool get together in a live venue context is gonna be a pricey venture. On those kinda figures we're lookin at £20 a ticket , to cover venue hire etc Clearly unrealistic, so the event has to be open to a wider selection of gig goers, casual punters.

Three areas of Concern re: July 4 Football Campuses closed , proliferation of festivals The rare chance of a hot/sunny Manc afternoon.

All of which have a bearing on the casual/walk up punter.

We hadn't really started any overt publicity, if we had we'd have been pitching in the wake of the Gretton thing and against RTNY's Hacienda night ( with a strong line-up ), our event may well have been a little lost.

The fact that Minus One pulled out only enforced an opinion voiced by me Brother and mates, as the bands were/are putting their services forward gratis, they aint contractualy bound , if we'd have had tickets in place, they'd have needed re-printin and monies offered back. As the bands may get better offers , it will always be a high risk venture, hence the need for a high profile guest appearance or dj slot, to at least offer ticket holders something they have paid for, obviously Barney on the same weekend as Hooky may not play well, another risk I didn't want. Essentialy my faith in the package/event we were getting together far outweighed my confidence in the date , not a good thing, it needed addressing straight away

So the autumn event makes sense on a few levels , and has a better chance of selling out , good for all concerned , the hope is that this event will grow , any monies were/are gonna go to a better/bigger deal .. shit, on a daydreamin basis I'd love to end up bookin CamberSands or Aberdeen for the weekend and gettin the Yanks over etc.

But if we fuck the first one up, none of it'll happen, save in daydreams.

We're looking at the "three shows over a weekend" scenario again, with gigs on the Friday and Saturday nights followed by an all-dayer on Sunday. All in the north-west, and maybe around Halloween.

Get yerself to Manchester and I'll put you on the guest list. Can't be fairer than that. Same goes for anyone else from the US or Canada - you turn up to see the shows over the weekend, you don't pay on the Friday night, I pay for you.
