What is it with general feeling against TBTHOG ?? it seems to take a lot of stick - yet i think its a great powerful track! - granted its not necesarily one of their seminal classics but still a great track... AND they seem to love performing it live!!

IMHO, it was good 12 or so years ago, but there are so many classics that I'd rather see performed instead.
Well, right from the start when it first came out, I was never a fan of TBTHOG...
But I should listen back to that old 12" though...

Well, Perfect Kiss and Age of Consent for two. Anything old that hasn't been played recently will do though. Seeing as you mention Technique though, I wouldn't mind seeing Vanishing Point or Guilty Partner in the set again, or even Everyone Everywhere off Republic for that matter.
Anything but Joy Division songs. It used to be a treat in the old days, when I were a lad and used to live in't shoebox in't middle o'road. Always unexpected, often shoddily performed. Now that we've grown up together, it's every other song....
The live version theiy're currently doing's a bit shit. Lacks all the power of the original in an attempt to make it sound more contemporary. For me, it was probably the most forgettable track of the gig

It was at it's best when nobody knew what it sounded like on the record, when it was introduced as "I got a wank off a girl with a spotty back". :) Salvation version is really good though I reckon.

As a one-off maybe, but it just sounds tired and out of place to me. I dunno, maybe I'm just an old cynic, but I don't want to expect JD songs.

Couldn't agree more, that was definitely my favourite era, especially as the songs were performed live as work in progress (well half of them anyway). They've got such an extensive and quality back catalogue, to me it just seems a bit of a shame that they have almost opted for the easy way out when there is so much more they could do (cue assassination attempts from around the N.O. world). Still, I suppose we should be grateful that we have had another chance to see them at all....
T-T-T-T-T-T-TOUCHED is right up there with The Village for me,It signified a massive return to form after the disappointment of Brotherhood(even though I was to stupid to realise Brotherhood had it's moments and spat the dummy after the first listen) I much prefer the versions on the 12" to the Salvation one and agree it sounds horrible live at the moment,at Brixton it and Close Range were indecipherable from a fog of bass,I almost had my fingers in my ears.But what a 12" a gigantic bassline,the Kick drum sound is 10x more potent than the one on the Perfect Kiss,The keyboards all shimmer with perfect production throughout,a perfect mix of ambiguos melancholic lyrics and euphoric chant(top form Barney),driven by one of the best head nodding beats they've ever done.The breakdown is efortless.Oh the memories of this one driving across N. Wales in a 'mark I Astra'I had it on tape the A side at the start then turned the tape over and taped the dub version,while playing back had to ffwd the tape to start all over again.it reminds me of Wales with the sun shining on the sea, definitely the best time to see the ocean around hear the glistening masks the dingey brown and if the sky is reflected in the sea it looks blue.
a nice but unlikely comprimise would be a couple of tracks from each album.. hence the set list would be something like...
movement - a bit 2 obscure for most tours pcl - the village, your silent face lowlife - love vigilantes, face up brotherhood - broken promise, way of life technique - round&round, vanishing point republic - regret, young offender get ready - crystal, vicious streak
and a couple off substance, like pk,tf,blt
now THAT would be one of my ideal set lists ;)

Used to love this song, the way it came crashing in. But it's far too toned down now, just hasn't got the b*ll*cks it used to possess.
Still light years ahead of the new versions of Toothache and BLT, mind.
... Jarvo's right... nothing, nothing beats the original bollocks of the early live versions '87,'89 etc. Just check the BBC Radio release for a glimmer and taste of it. Why they should have removed the beefy bass drum, tight arse bass synth and crunchy snare is a real mystery. I mean, what goes on with this new one?... sounds a little bit like another bands version of the same song taking the hardcore elements out.
A bit like True Fat.

Yeah, I've always been a fan of Touched. Especially when they opened with it at Brixton and Finsbury Park before it was released.

but tbthog does work really well as a live track and maybe that explains the disliking of the "watered down" rmx versions. It gives Barney ample opporunitys to whoop and whistle and growl, Hooky has a nice lead, Steve gets to drum like he's in a punk band and Gillian well her role is unfortunatly rather typecast after Barneys gesturing in the video!!!!

I know that Muffy, but it was the same year, wasn't it? Whenever Substance comes to State of the Nation, which I always skip, I think to myself, why couldn't this be Touched instead.
