I think I'll give my date that NOOL shirt... if it was not sent to Paraguay yet!

I'm not immediately sure about the meaning of "gayish." Is that somewhat gay? Or is it the language spoken by gays?

Neo-expression. To sound like foolish, bearish, MORONISH...

well who doesn't love the energy and atmosphere of a gay disco?

Given his presence on this forum, I'd say it was a fair bet.

If any members of New Order were gay wouldn't the British tabloids have outed them?

It was the British tabloids that referred to Liberace as a "deadly, winking, sniggering, snuggling, chromium-plated, scent-impregnated, luminous, quivering, giggling, fruit-flavored, mincing, ice-covered heap of mother love", that is, subtly implying that he was gay. I don't recall NO ever getting the same treatment? But perhaps I missed an issue.

Maybe they deleted the "coming out of the closet" scene from 24 hour party people?

I love Bernard's look in Confusion - and I'm straight as an arrow.

Perhaps outside the US the meaning of Fire Island is not understood...

Fire Island is the name of the remixers not the remixes.

It's Farley and Heller.

Speaking of New Order and anything gay, a story of mine about a boy who is sexually confused was read in my fiction class last night. There was a New Order reference on the first page and someone in my class said, "Well, it makes sense. New Order are a gay band."

People restart subjects that were discussed before - coutless times. "Is Barney gay?" is one of them. According to statistics, considereing the last time it was done, in a few days we are gonna have a "New Order or Depeche Mode?" poll...

Here's my fun college story. I had a gay roommate (don't ask, don't tell rules apply) and he was looking through my CDs and when he saw the Regret single he basically said, "a Fire Island mix, are they gay?".

I don't think any members of New Order are gay, but I'll throw fuel on the fire:

Yes, Farley & Heller are remixers that have gone under the name Fire Island. But is the choice of the name merely coincidental?

They choose a name (Fire Island) that has strong gay connotations, they do a remix for the Pet Shop Boys (Go West), and the song is a cover of a Village People song. Regret and Go West were both released in 1993.

While some interpret the original "Go West," as about a gay utopia, Neil Tennant stated that the PSB version “tried to bring out the elegaic quality of a utopia that couldn't be realized.” "Regret" also is elegiac. And the cover of Regret is a western theme: Two male cowboys watching a sunset while one is lighting a cigarette for the other. Are they watching the sun set on the gay utopia that cannot be realized? Is that Farley and Heller on the horses, or is it Neil and Chris? Should the cowboys have pink parasols?

How about a cowboy dressed in black leather with a black umbrella telling his nude son to bury his mother's photo in the desert sand?*

No clue - but I'd pay $5 to see it!

I can tell you one thing, Pete Heller is no pink parasol carrier. In London I once worked alongside a very foxy brunette who turned out to be his girl.
