As this is the place I come to for all things European, I proffer this question: why is Frenchy such a pretentious, ungrateful bastard?

Consider the evidence:

* If it we not for Joe and Tommy, Frenchy would be speaking just like Jerry. Yet, Frenchy has a fit when an "American" word like "internet" finds it's way into Frenchy's precious language.

* If it were not for Joe and the Eigth Air Force and Tommy and Bomber Command, Frenchy wouldn't have his own airspace, let alone any airspace to deny Joe the use of on his way to bomb Lybia.

* While Coco Channel was busy "servicing" an SS officer, Joe and Tommy (and even Ivan) were busy trying to liberate here sorry fu$%ing country. And yet, we in America took in her collaborating ass for ten years so the few real men in France couldn't hang her for being the traitorous bitch she was.

Anyway, what's the deal with Frenchy?

Don't know, don't care. Just if they come to our country make them speak perfect english, like I had to speak perfect french to get any service down there. Fooking Frenchfries! :violent: And thier eiffel tower isn't that great! Thanks for the great holiday, Jackasses! Oh, bad flashbacks, make it go away!

actually, that's the only thing I took back from your country. I put it on them every time I eat them. But that's the only good idea you've ever had. And your national soccer team sucks to!

Having some French blood, and with every intention of convincing the young French lady who works with my brother that she should become my next victim, I'm not entirely in favour of this thread ! Personally I like the French. My resemblance to Zinedine Zidane is not confined to the pitch either :)

Michael, MyDearButt, I think starting this kind of thread when you come from most infamous imperialist country in the world is somewhat misplaced - BTW, ever thought of using air space for other matter than bombing, dear friend?

Our beloved Québécois webmestres will lock that thread in seconds if it goes on like this. Remember there's also a connection between Québec and France.

Or maybe you were just posting like a troll to get flamed as much as you can???

Th French are so depressing, what with their Camus, their Sartres, john Calvin and that crazy bunch, DeGaulle. Having never been there, I can't speak for individuals, but overall the view of France is negative. I think the French are still pissed about rolling over and taking it from the Germans in WWII, but I hear Paris is nice.......:D

Okay everyone...

what the hell brought this little tirade about?

Mike, you are probably correct, if the U.S. and the English hadn't gone in and bailed out France in both of the World Wars, France would probably be just another state of Nazi Germany.

But go back a few years...the American Revolution to be exact...do you remember that it was a wealthy young Frenchman (Lafayette), who spent a great deal of his own personal fortune to buy arms for the rebels, patriots, revolutionaries (whatever term applies), and fought with the Americans as well. And remember Yorktown? Why was it that Cornwallis could not escape? It was the French fleet, led by Admiral Degrasse (I believe), that prevented the English fleet from reaching the British Army...

So before we start ranting too much about what the French are doing that may not always sit well with us Americans, remember what they did to make sure the United States even got a beginning....

And Trevor...

what about French Toast???

Oh, Pitchy-

Imperialism!?!?! You have just a smidge of that in your own defeated history. But, that's a whole other issue.

Let's talk about American "imperialism" for just sec, ok? It seems that when we're burning through billions of dollars in fuel, ordnance and personel to clean up messes in your own back yard (where is Slobo these days, anyway) you don't seem to mind our "imperialism". While we were rebuilding your country that's been defeated too many times to count, you didn't seem to mind our "imperialism".

You guys kill me. By the way Pitchy, green is not your best color.

Tabster-

Do you know why the streets of Paris are tree lined? So the Germans can march in the shade. :)

Honestly, I'm not anti-French (despite three years of studying their language-hah! I barely remember any of it because there's no French-speaking community to interact with). I was being facetious with the whole "French Fries" thing, and I do seriously believe the French have a national insecurity complex (Napoleon conquered Europe than lost it all in less than 20 years. That's gotta hurt), but to suggest they're all disagreeable somehow is wrong. No anti-Frenchness, please (keep in mind the webmasters in QUEBEC before you start on such a rant)

Jeff-

I know, I know. The French were very helpful in the infancy of this country. Props to them. It just seems that like that particular debt has been paid in full ten fold with loan shark's points. It would be nice, however, not to have it reported on Fox News that Le Monde is writing how we in America should not be hunting down and dismembering the cowardly bastards that flew planes into two very large buildings in downtown NYC. But, we should rather be studying the "root causes" of what WE did to cause the terrorists to want to do such a thing.

OK Frenchy: the next time Jerry debuts "Blitzkrieg -The Sequal", the first thing we'll do is STUDY the "root causes" of why Jerry is such an aggressive chap and REALLY TRY to get him counseling.

Anyway, to answer your question Jeff. That's what set me off. Frenchy is ALWAYS the first to crack America when we're trying to take care of business. And in this particular case, it's NONE OF FRENCHY'S business. They didn't have planes flown into their freaking erector set tower.

Screw Frenchy. But keep the fries coming.

So what's the deal with insulting the french?

Not sure I like the way this thread is going.. I'll put it under close watch, but since my ancestors are french, I sure don't like the way it's going.

P/S: Unless you didn't notice because you only saw Saving Private Ryan, the Canadians, and many FRENCH-Canadians help to get the Nazis out of France..

Hmm, how soon we forget giving arms and money to Osama back during the Soviet occupation....Look, what they did was wrong and unexcuseable, but let's examine the reasons why so we can prevent it from occuring again. Our national arrogance may very well be our downfall if we're not careful. And anoher thing...(agents encircle the house on orders from Bush, and Tabsy is arrested in mid-sentence)

It was reported on Fox News that Le Monde was talking about how we (Americans) were going about dealing with the terrorists ALL WRONG. We "should" be studying what we did to bring the 9/11 attacks on ourselves.

That's why.......

The Americazation of history (ie We cracked the Enigma code, not the Brits, in the otherwise good "U-571") is bad, and there needs to be more acknowledgement of international acheivements in Hollywood, but who'd go see it? Give us our Tom Cruises and the like battling super criminals with a weakness for revealing their plots....oh wait, James Bond villians do that, my mistake. Anyway, America isn't the center of the universe, so let's dispense with such misguided nationalism now.

I have absolutely no problem with Canada or French Canadians. The Canadian army took murderous fire on D-Day and accounted for themselves very well.

Here it is in a nutshell. When all is well, it's cool, acceptable and encouraged to crack the USA. But, when the S*&T hits the fan, well.........it's amazing the transformation that takes place from the world's fat, stupid, capitalist ,imperialist, misogynistic, racist oaf of a country into the world's bennevolent policeman or the world's supermarket with a huge "food for free - plus free C-130 delivery" sign on the front doors.

That's all.

Thanks, Michael. That's what I was wondering about. I certainly agree (and I think at least 90% of us in the U.S. do) that what we have done in Afghanistan so far is about 99% right.

And it is not at all pleasing to hear critical comments from people who didn't have terrorists murder 3,000 people in one of their major cities.

So if that's what we're talking about, let's at least be clear that that's what we're talking about.

Best wishes to everybody (except Osama and his friends).

U-571 is a good example. I think what it illustrates is the poor understanding of history that most people have.

On a side note, the whole Enigma story is very interesting. Most of what happened at Bletchley Park is STILL highly classified.

And frankly I think Osama and friends would be quite happy to kill thousands of people in Paris and London as well, and what would people in those places be saying then?

Maybe you'd like to point out (specifically) what was "racist", "bigoted" or "xenophobic" in what has been said.

Lables are easily applied, but more difficult to make stick when examined closely.

Mike, your problem is you actually believe what you hear on Fox News. Turn it to CNN, you'll probably have a less stressful day. Fox News is so biased towards the Right Wing, especially now. In fact, the one guy who actually strikes me as an honest newsman over there is.........(gasp) Bill O'Reilly. Sure he's a moralist, but the attention he brought to the 9/11 fundraising mess puts him head and shoulders above the rest of the pack. He's been critical of Bush's ties to Enron when no one else had the balls to address the problem, so I have to say his stock has risen for me. Other than that and Foxs Newswatch, the vacuous airheads who anchor the network make me sick

With all due respect Michael, this is area we have covered before. As a British citizen I have spent all of my 26 years in the shadow of terrorism. As a nation we have bombed by many terrorist groups, primarily the IRA, for years and years. I remember clearly the Manchester bombing and i know many here do, and the Warrington bombing and Canary Wharf etc. We know better than any how you are feeling, but i still dont think coming on to a New Order board and slagging off the French nation is appropriate. I find terms like "Frenchy" & "Jerry" racist and the generalisation of your points (assuming all French people feel the same etc) is what makes this thread, not just your post, racist, xenophobic and bigoted. IMO

As for the French being a race, oh dear, how picky, have you nothing better to do. I applied the term racism in a general way, to incorporate any predjudiced views that have ben expressed here. And i really dont think i need to explain that, you are well aware of what i meant.

Michael. I have been reading your messages and quite frankly I dont know how to deal with your hate concerning people like me... You know, the froggies.. Because in case you did not notice I am one of them... I was thinking of trying to explain you that everybody can have his own opinion and that what democracy is made for, that "Le Monde" is one of the most respectable newspaper in the world (believe it or not, it's the case and a fact). I even have to admit I have been thinking of insulting you too because I feel insulted right now. But frankly it would give you too much importance and you are not worth it. I thought about trying to explain you that maybe all the Western World has a responsability with what happens right now with terrorism. But I dont think it's the right place to talk about politics. I have American friends that I hold dear to my heart and who taught me a lot about tolerance and would never talk about my country the way you do. Because they have got respect for all the people in the world.
All I have to tell you Michael (as a person who knows about terrorism because, believe it or not, my own country has been wounded with it) is that I mourn all the innocent people (children, women, men) who died in New-York, in Afghanistan, in Irak. Because none of them deserved to die.

Actually, it was really first used with the french from France because, as I was told, they were eating frog thighs! But YES, it was used VERY OFTEN by english-canadians as a racist insult towards french-canadians, and the latter were often replying with insults such as "square heads" or "bloke heads".

Sorry about all this everyone.

I've been working until 9 PM tonight, then hit a restaurant and it's been only 10 minutes until I bumped onto this thread.

I read this thread with great attention. Some pretty surprising remarks (and quite stupid as well) were made, and some others very witty, very intelligent.

I won't start a rant, but let me just say this: generalization has always been very dangerous, as History has shown. Generalization has always been the easiest path to take for those who were looking for scapegoats to vent their personal frustrations, or for those who didn't have the capacity to understand the complex nature of the human being. Even, for those who just can't understand the complexity of the world we live in.

Liv, I must salute your witty comments.

I said it all before and I said it all again: this website will always promote free speech, and I personally do not dislike having discussions on serious and/or more intellectual matters from time to time.

But for everyone's benefit, please let me remind you, and especially the maker of this thread, of the Terms of Use of this website and especially of our basic Community Standards which were violated by this thread and why they were violated:

OFFICIAL WEBMASTERS DECLARATION

Our General Principles:

We expect that all members of NewOrderOnline will behave in a way that’s conducive to the diversity, intelligence and respectfulness of the community. Each of these three general principles is fundamental to the quality of our site.

Diversity – We’re a community of thousands of fans of different countries, from different backgrounds and with different perspectives on music and life. At all times, we expect our members to respect that.

It is pretty obvious that this thread did not respect DIVERSITY.

Intelligence – We’re a community with quality standards and expect our members will make a sincere effort to contribute their thoughts on interesting subjects in a meaningful and respectful manner. Posting messages and otherwise interacting on NewOrderOnline is completely optional; many members often prefer to just read what others have to say. But if you do post, we expect that you’ll be respectful of the time of others by posting meaningfully.

This thread wasn't exactly meaningful, to say the least.

Respectfulness – We expect our member to show respect for others. Respecting their person, their musical tastes, their time and their opinions – even if you disagree with them.

This thread was completely disrespectful in its essence.

Basic Guidelines:

The following three categories of online conduct are unacceptable at NewOrderOnline and constitute a violation of our Community Standards which may result in warning, suspension or loss of membership:

Harrassment… Harassment occurs when a member insults, attacks, and denigrates another member at any time. Even though we realize that discussions can get intense, we have zero tolerance for taking an argument about a topic to a personal level. For instance, the use of terms such as "idiot, moron, stupid" and other derogatory terms constitutes harassment. Harassment not only includes individuals but also can apply to insults against others members of NewOrderOnline. Repeated critical and sharply negative posts toward a forum members can also constitute harassment.

Disruption… Posts which intend to disrupt the topic of conversation or steer the topic away from the focus of the forum and related news. Disruption can include harassment, multiple posting of the same post and posting completely off topic messages.

Vulgarity and Sexual Explicitness… As a community with a diverse variety of members and readers, we ask that our members to post without using vulgarity. Vulgarity not only includes vulgar language and pictures but also sexist, racist, anti-religious and homophobic language which may offend other members. In addition, the "masking" of vulgarity by inserting * or another keystroke in place of one or more letters in a vulgar term is unacceptable in most cases. We realize that there's a "grey area" of judgement with vulgarity but we ask that you'll respect others by avoiding vulgarity.

I think it is pretty clear that these three elements were violated by this thread and the maker of this thread.

THEREFORE:The user who created this thread and perpetuated it gets an official warning from the webmasters. A second violation might bring an immediate account suspension or a permanent ban without further warnings.

We will not, in any way, tolerate any type of disruption which might break the incredible harmony and spirit of friendship which is now associated with this forum.

Let this be also a warning for those users who, from time to time, tend to post countless off topic messages, which is a form of disruption, and is not acceptable based on our community standards.

NewOrderOnline.com aims for quality and its forum should be the reflection of that.

Would I've been home earlier today, I would have locked this thread much faster the way it developped.

Lately, Nicolas and I have been more and more busy on our sides than ever before since we launched this website.

Therefore, I think it is time to move forward with a suggestion I made to Nicolas (and he didn't quite agree at the time -- I think his opinion was more based on lazyness than any other thing, because it would mean for him to modify the site's code, hence more work).

It's time for Digital Republic to get official moderators. One from Europe, who can cover the hours when our european friends are usually posting (which, for us, is between 4 AM and 6 PM) and one from North America.

Personally, I've already made my choices and will discuss this with Nicolas.

Also, lately, beside maybe the french forum which is still active, the german and swedish forums have been totally dead. It's time for a reorganization.

Movement on the way...

Seb, over and out.
