I'm just back from the city centre and Central Station was just as busy with the various teen gangs as it always is on a Saturday afternoon goths, skate kids, townies...all the tribes were there. Glad to see that at least "the kids" have got the good sense to shun it. The crowd at Hyde Park all look like accountants and tax inspectors (and I fucking hate tax inspectors!).

Anyway, when are The Quo on? That's what it's missing.

Fook me, Delilah, not much of a fan to know the titles, they played 3 songs, that's all I can say to you, sounded fucking amazing. The songs titles were actually written on the screen but as I'm in front of my PC at the moment, looks like my silly eye completely missed it. Perhaps, someone else could give us a proper answer to that. :D

What a big mess is all I can say. How can horrible music, shallow teenagers, & pompus assholes help the world? I support the One cause, but did anyone see the Bravery's lead singer in the One vid they showed after will smith finished talking? How can he be in it, and there be no New Order in any of this mess? What is the world coming too, solving problems with Bono and other bad music acts. If only John Lennon was still alive.

Sitting on here carping saying it does no good etc won't help them. Go to www.live8live.com and add your name to the global petition. Today is about raising consciousness about Africa. If we think we are impotent and can't do anything to help anyone, there really is no hope.

It's ironic that a local church near me has a large Make Poverty History banner outside: this is the very same global corporate entity which insists that Africans cannot be allowed to use condoms and would rather the continent's people died of AIDS than stay alive. Both the Roman church and the established English one are as rich as Croesus so how much are they giving? The true guilt lies with them and the global corporations who continue to trade unfairly.

Like some of the rock stars playing today, we've now way of knowing how much they've given to buy the drugs needed, build the clinics and health centres, provide clean and safe drinking water for millions. I don't want millionaires like Richard Curtis lecturing me because I'm well acquainted with the issues. I would've done what I could in any case but if it gets people to do something it's worth it. The end result is all that matters.

Nevertheless we, as 'ordinary' people, have to do what we can.

I agree with what you're saying but would rather support charities like oxfam who are just getting on it without the support of a bunch of 'musicians' many of whom (not all) are just trying to further their own careers

Jeepers... It's not just a 'smugfest' - yes some of the bands are cackified but what are the 'better ways'? Politicians only listen when the popular masses are organised - OK, most of them don't understand the socioeconomic politics, but they all know it's about bringing an end to poverty...

2005 sees a unique intersection of politics, emanating partly from the UK (G8 is in Scotland, we're presiding over the EU etc...) and spreading across the world, that means the debt could be wiped and Africa could have a chance to get on it's feet.

Bob didn't want to do all this bloody hard work (he said this himself), but he saw the potential of what could happen if the G8 are pressured at this moment of opportunity - that's why he siezed the opportunity.

Do we want Live8 and billions spent on saving lives or do we want Status Quo (not Francis and Ricki!) and the US spending trillions on it's war budget?!?

And for everyone who says they are glad NO isn't playing - what are you all on? You don't want to go to a free NO concert, you don't think they care about this stuff? Why did they contribute 'Vietnam' to the anti-war album, why do they wear white wrist bands on stage, has anyone listened to 'Love Vigilanties' (yes Vietnam and LV are anti-war - but poverty breeds war) has anyone read the inlay to 'Raise The Pressure'?

I see your point, and I agree. It's one of the only ways to fight poverty. But what about fighting the problems in our own countries? I mean, I'm sure we do. And I'm really glad were helping Africa ( as I said before I support One). But I know the US has issues with aids, and poverty. So does everyone else, are we fighting for the world as a whole, or focusing purely on Africa as of right now? Will this be a continued effort, and be this large? I don't know a whole lot, I'm your normal 17 year old. But I'm just think its hard to set a good example and fight for problems other than our own when we need to focus on fixing our own first. I wish New Order were playing! New Order and Paul McCartney would have been cool, I think atleast. I kinda see New Order as the second beatles, thats just my opinion though.

The old 'what about our own problems' argument - yes it's important to also be looking after ourselves; if you want to do that then lobby the US government to stop spending trillions on war. If as much financial effort had been put into creating peace, historically, as has been put into fighting war then Sept 11th would never have happenned. Radical extremism is borne from poverty. If you look at the stats, and the human outcomes, comparing poverty and AIDS in the West with poverty and AIDS in Africa is a little embarassing to say the least...
