worse new order remix ever...

im a newbie so i dont know if this thread has been done before (i googled the site and didnt come across anything similar...)

bizarre love triangle (armand van helden mix)hands down. he may have turned tori amos to a dancefloor diva (his treatment of 'professional widow came out prior to this monstrosity) but van helden was all hype. this was like the last nail in his coffin because no one really paid attention to him after this was released.

I'm with mysilentface on this, that van helden mix is painful. AND that's despite it scoring brownie points for the extremely clever tempo turnaround thing it does in the middle (obviously the uncredited engineer who does all the work for DJ's was on form that day).

I seem to recall there being a truly repulsive version of Touched on that album too. LOVE the AoC and Confusion mixes tho, from the sublime to the ridiculous.

EDIT, it just occured to me that there are several versions of blue monday on that freebie cd that are so bad their creators ought to have their nostrils split open with a boat hook, their faces sawn off with a rusty hacksaw, then be flayed to a bloody mass and rolled in hot rock salt, lime juice and aftershave. Bring me the deep fried balls of whatever cunt thought a happy hardcore mix of BM would be clever....I mean wtf is happy hardcore anyway.....it's an oxymoron (as opposed to it's fans which are Ox-BRAINED-morons), it'd be like happy death metal. WHat people mistakenly think of as happy hardcore is just pish techno played at the wrong speed, sorry. For my next trick I will point out that water is wet, that the sky is blue, and that any woman who says "eww no way, sleep with him?" will be shagging said bloke in 2 weeks.

Sorry, but I hate any remix of Regret as it tears the heart out of it.

Remixes are even more subjective than original songs so lets not get hot.

I love the remix of regret, i think its sabre slow&low. This isnt the same as fire island, right? The remix im referring too adds an extra dimension to the song.

Agreed, they more or less always ruin the song, but fire island is a gorgeous little tune in it's own right. The sabres mix is ok as well, which is odd cos they're wankers :)

I like remixes myself,my fave at the moment has got to be the Richard X remix of BLT. On the other hand Armand Van Helden should be subjected to nipple clamps,and 100v of direct current! Also "Dubvulture" especially that awful "fingers-scraping-down-a blackboard" God-awful noise at the end!

Has to be the Sly and Robbie mixes of RIAD.Listened to then ONCE back in July 93!.

Just a dissent on the Touched remix on Rest of. I love it.

I've got to agree, the AVH mix of BLT is shite.

it would be interesting to hear each member of NO do a mix of the same track, but probably inevitable that barney's mix would be very vocal, hooky's very bassy, steve's very drummy and phils very ginger.

i read in true faith:an armchair guide to new order et al., that one of the reasons why they sanctioned sly & robbie to do those questionable remixes for ruined was because its something that we (the fans) or anyone else for that matter, would never expect them to do.

that bizz & memphis mix of touched - awesome. dont know who the hell they are but they got major points with me for sampling divine`s growling mantra into the song. epic.

bonus disc of rest of : they wanted to introduce blue monday to a new generation of rave culture. richie hawtin - could have made it more techie jam & spoon - they didnt do enough coke in the studio i would be terrified of remixing blue monday.

fire island mixes of regret - the piano sequence is nice, but is it me or are the production levels really low on that one. the weatherall mixes.. slow and low is alright, never sat down with fastnthrob

apart from avh annihilation of blt, i wish james holden could have made his dub of someone like you more like his own productions. was really looking forward to it, its all pointless noise.

Lionrock / Joey T Dubby Vanelli mixes of 1963 were fucking dire. What sacrilege. Ditto the Sly'n'Robbie ones of Ruined in a Day - was that a pisstake or what? How could they? What were New Order thinking allowing them to desecrate their song in such a way?

That Armado Van Helmet mix of BLT made me so angry when I heard it I went out the very next day and promptly punched the first person I saw wearing a Ministry of Sound T-shirt.

Actually, just to save my breath just nominate all the mixes on "The Rest Of" that weren't by Perfecto, K Klass or Fluke and there you have it.

arrgh! dubvulture is brilliant! and it's all the weird shit at the end that really gets me! it's like glitch-techno in 1985. 1985! i listen to that track as much as i do any new order song. wondrous!

remixes are a facet of new order's brilliance. sure, some of the later ones are crap... most of the remixes post-1993 are dull... but that's just the state of club dance these days. if the mixers would just rework the original track, maybe adding small bits of their own in there, then the mixes would be interesting again. it got especially bad in the mid-90s... when remixers would only use small bits (if that) of the original and just put down a 4/4 bass drum and some vocal sample... absolute crap... that said, some of the remixes are like totally new songs. (should never follow like with totally...)
i think a lot of us are getting older (i know i know). that's why people like turn... what a dull song. not much to it. i don't think the remixes have been innovative lately, but at least some are interesting.

The Armand Van Helden remix of "BLT" and pretty much any remix that just goes on and on with hardly any of the original lyrics. Regardless of artist, I like the original lyrics to be there as much as possible in any remix.

quincy jones wasn't even the official producer on this peice of trash. blue monday '88 was produced by john potoker, jones was just credited as being 'supervising' producer. meaning his name on the sticker will sell records. the video was smart tho.

Shame of the Nation is pretty dire, as well as John Robbie's version of Subculture. The Digweed and Muir remix of Crystal (known as the Club version) is really awful - strips away everything but the vocals. Also, the scumfrog dub remix of Here to Stay just butchers the song. Why do so many people do awful NO remixes? I heard most of the remixes on the Depeche Mode remix CD and almost all were good. It's not saying that DM is a better band or that their songs are earlier to remix, but why can so few people remix NO well?
