Why don't they consider a small US maxi-CD run featuring the Guilt & WFTSC mixes. They're guaranteed sales with hundreds of NOOLers alone. Why let potential revenue end up in promo profiteering on eBay?

HMW dwtn had a lot of Krafty cdsingles when they first came out, as well as Jetstream but only the UK and Aussie versions. Never saw the American cd single for Krafty or Jetstream. Even had to wait an extra week for Item.

I do remember the good ole days of searchin all those vinyl bins in the second hand stores in downtown MTL and finding all my precious singles in almost mint condition (some of them were priced at a dollar ). They all got stolen while I was living in Vancouver but man that hunt was fun.

We gotta give Polygram some dibs for released that Blue Monday 95 single tho... they were also pretty good about releasing new order vinyl (7 & 12 inch) cdsingles (in those cardboard cases) new order 1981-1982 on cd, etc. They even maintained the original label design from Factory whereas Qwest would Amercanize the release with thier own custom stickers.

Excellent idea! The extra disc would cost them about 10 cents to make and they could charge $5 more for a limited edition and the fans would get these mixes on CD.

But why edits unless the remixes suck? I could understand if there was a 'radio' version but for the 'customer' version they should put the full mixes. Can't wait to hear the full version of Morel's remix.

I realize this might be an old topic (my first post!), but why are we referring to WFTSC as a 7"-only release? All the 7" versions are available as digital downloads, and there's a CD-single with the long versions of two of the mixes.

That said, I'm guessing that both GIAUE "releases" will be equally available, and you'll be able to buy either or both, depending on your preferences. There might be pricing differences, though. It's all marketing.

It IS VERY CRAP NEWS for those of us who can only JUST afford a shitty dial-up link which takes a million years to download even the shortest edit. Sorry, as said before, some things DO matter more than music and this is a very sad way for Warner to treat genuine fans of this, I'm very sad to admit, once truly groundbreaking band who have allowed this travesty to take place. Another cheapass attempt by Warner to cut costs no matter what the cost to bands on it's roster.

So, techie types- how does one go about downloading (& paying) these upcoming remixes. I've never done out like this- don't know where to start. Is it Apple or something.

(As you might have guessed- i still use a tape walkman- albeit Sony!!)

I know it's in vogue these days but why should we be expected to pay full price for compressed, lousy sounding audio files with no artwork? Exclusive material on iTunes is teh suxor!

I should quote almost everybody, but I pciked this sentence. I think that FROM EVERYBODY is is crap news. We should do something about it really. 'Cos it sucks to be leaded by WB - and the w*nkers @ London. I hate to spend the entire month without going to a restaurant or a club becaus I have to pay a small fortune on eBay promos. I'm sick of it. We should write a manifest and publish it everywhere, including PHYSICAL LETTERS to Warners all over the world. It's stupid, really. I want it in the best quality possible - not crappy mp3s. I'm starting the art for the manifest right now and its name should be incisive, FUCK LONDON.

By the way I'm tired of those trendy useless remixes as well. But that's another thing - it's all gone pete tong.

I bought 192kbps WMAs, so no need for iTunes. (US folks can't buy from the UK iTunes shop, but we can buy from 7digital.) Burned it to CDR, and now it's unprotected and I can do what I want with it. Qualitywise, not terrible. For those of us who can't afford $1000+ turntables (mainly because we're chasing down ridiculous releases like this one), you could argue that it sounds nearly as good as vinyl anyways.

Like you, I'd much rather have a CD. But the writing is on the wall: The days of people like us are numbered. The record companies hate CDs now, so they want all music to either be "copy-controlled" digital downloads, or in an analog format that is hard to copy and very unportable.

Plain and simple, this idea sucks.

Its a terrible song to begin with, so I guess the format of the release makes sense. The band doesn't have a huge following in the US and I can see why the label doesn't want to put much effort/$$$ into their releases.

As a psuedo-completist, I buy everything the band releases, good or not quite so good. I would have bought this too had there been a PROPER release on vinyl and/or CD...but I can't see that paying to download crap mp3 files is worth it.

This digital-only release blows.

Furthermore, there has to be some political cost when traditional retail is cut out the picture. If there is indeed another NO cd coming soon, they (NO & Warner Bros.) are going to need all the support they can muster up to promote it in the stores. :\ohwell:

Digital releases should enhance the market, not circumnavigate it.

i never hear NO remixes in any of the 'top' mainstream clubs. it's usually confined to the more 'eccentric' clubs. as far as radio, the only place i hear of new order is on college radio. i don't know what it will take for them to release this on cd. i guess more people like us to bother them! it's wishful thinking for us, JW!

I wonder why its not possible for them to create a digital download that is sampled at 384k (or higher?)? I agree that the 128k's are nearly worthless.

If the bitrate is high enough...all but those with the highest end equipment wouldn't notice and that would at least allow us to have decent copies of the song.

As for why they are releasing it digitally...I would guess that they'd have to do a minimum pressing of 25,000 of these to justify the artwork, cd production, shipping and tracking of the item. I really doubt that they would sell 25k copies of this single in the US. Digital downloads allows them to make back the money they've sunk into the mixes with almost no distribution costs...and lets face it...they know we'll buy it.
