A general question about decing the best way to live. Navigating through the moral maze etc.

Could you go out with someone who didn't like New Order. Have you ever? What happened? Luckily I haven't run into this problem yet, but one day I could do. I certainly couldn't breed with someone who had such cloth ears. Think of the genes!

I worry about these things. What i have to sacrifice true love on the alter of NO?

Woken up then?

Yes i did. And no, it didnt work out. She liked Blue Monday, that was the problem.

Not really, she was a bitch.

yes, I was resting up after getting pissed last night. I always wake up dead early in the morning when i have a hang over, so I just schedule in a nap later on.

Liam, that is a salutory lesson, I thought it could only go that way. I mean, surely someone would have something wrong inside to dislike NO after patient and careful education? you can excuse someone just being ignorant though. having said that some (read all) of my best friends don't like NO. What's a girl to do?

And no I haven't met anyone in particular, maybe this sort of thing is why.

right oh, i'm off to redamge the brain cells that my nap repaired. I'll get in touch tomorrow.

I think being into New Order has fcuked my love life many a time.I try to put it to the back of my mind at first ,the fact that the certain person isn't into them or doesn't care a toss about NO.But in the end it always get's me that they don't.If i weren't into NO i'd probably be married by now.and washing the car on a Sunday.thank FCUK for NO!!!!!!

My WIFE doesn't like NO, not her cup of tea, but she did come to see tham at old trafford in 2002, I think that was only to keep an eye on me though, her cup of tea by the way is utter shite boy band rubbish and I point blank refused to see mcfly with her, so next gig I might get to see on my own. that could also mean next christmas and birthday and every one after that i get to see on my own aswell.

Oh well, are NO more important than marriage, it's a tough call.

You don't wanna be Like other people are. Don't wanna own a key Don't wanna own a car Don't wanna have to work like other people do You want it to be free, you want it to be true

Yeah been thinking about that a lot of times myself and the only conclusion I ever got to is it's all very fookin relative. Been there, done that, spent a very long time with someone who didn't give a shit about New Order but then again he never looked at me in a weird kinda way for being so obsessed with the band. Shagged a NO fan once and it turned out to be the a bloody disaster, haha. So you get my point ... I only expect him to truly appreciate and understand my love for the band if not fan already. :D

ooh good answer!

so you're saying don't shag NO fans, others say don't shag non-NO fans, so according the law of excluded middle, I'm going to end up celibate.

OR I could just go out with Barney! (duck and cover while Maya explodes with rage)

I've never been in a relationship where the girl has liked New Order to begin with, but after incessant drunken ramblings about them being as equally as important as Celtic in my life they soon get the message. I usually found playing Substance aroused their interests, cos let's face it most of the British population know BM & TF and that usually leads to "I didn't know that was them"

Once you've grabbed their attention bung on Technique and job's a good un :D

STILL beats being LONESOME TONIGHT

/me shoots self

for my answer...see my profile :)

But generally, most women, upon arriving @ chez steve, get introduced to my bass and my machines by name, then have it explained to them that these guys come first.....and that usually leads to their wanting to know what possible trauma I could have suffered to make my priorities so twisted......which is a nice cue to pop on a really violent live version of Hurt exceptionally loudly, and sit there with a lok of "so you see, i had no choice" on my face. Yes, I sleep alone those nights :)

But it's best to weed out the wastes of time at the start. My current number one lady, doesn't like their music but thinks they are almost certainly the coolest and mentalest band in history. It's a start.

Been into New Order for a fairly long time, so there's been many Mrs J's under the bridge since then. Current lady flew out to Barca and Lisbon to see the Order, after only one week together, and did Turin and Brittany after, but couldn't be arsed with the QEH in the end, and is only doing Ally Pally of the forthcoming crop. She likes Crystal, loves it in fact, but that's about it.

My ex-wife did 25-odd gigs in 2001/2 and hasn't done a single New Order gig since we broke up .... hmmm, perhaps she's telling me something? Also got a starring role on 9802, the little minx. She used to like the 'country & western one' (Love Vigilantes) and one of the 'dancier ones which I don't like' (BLT or True Faith?) but that was about it. She also come down the aisle to The Vikings: two birds, one stone, cos it was her Dad's favourite film too. She also told Hooky he "had a lot to answer for" cos we signed our marriage certificate to the 7" of Ceremony. Hooky told her, "nowt wrong with that, luv, it's a top chooon".

Have had various birds do gigs with me in the past. One ex fainted at Apollo 98 due to heat exhaustion, we missed the Woolwich encore in 87 cos another ex had her leg in plaster after tearing ligaments and it's a long way back to Woolwich station from there. In fact, she made me do that gig cos I was already doing Brixton on the Saturday, so might not have bothered otherwise. She wanted to see what the fuss was all about.

At the end of the day, you get one New Order, but you can have as many sexual daliances as you like, so don't feel the need to have a bird who loves, or even likes New Order. I'm probably not good with a girl at my side at a gig anyways, cos I then feel rather restrained, shall we say. And it's not like I play New Order to death at home or anything, hardly ever at all in fact, the only issues arise cos I keep taking so many bloody trips to see them!

My ex of six years detested NO. He stopped me from going to their gigs (didn't like a female going on her own etc), but he refused point blank to go to the gigs with me.

He was just a control freak.

He was a cnut.

On reflection, I wish I had stayed celibate.

(I feel better for that little rant now)

:D

Mrs Shug has been to three gigs, at Hyde Park she stayed back a bit with a couple of the other Corby Order, leaving me, John & Lorraine to go mental down the front and at T in the Park Lorraine stayed with Tammy at the front of the barrier whilst myself and John joined in the mayhem with many of the usual suspects from here. At the QEH we had seats and couldnae get down to the front. She's not doing the next 3 dates cos she has no holidays left and is not hardcore enough to pull sickies for the Order

It doesn't really bother me if they're not into the band. Just about every girlfriend I've had has not been fussed either way by New Order. One claimed she didn't really listen to music at all (at the time I really couldn't get my head around that statement!) I've found girls my age don't really know of the Order unless they're dedicated indie fans, most are into R&B or shitty mainstream pop etc. One said she really hated Morrissey when she noticed the poster I had on my wall at uni; that was amusing!

I dunno, I think it's important in a couple for both people to be into different things as well as having a common interest (whether that be New Order, a favourite book, favourite TV show etc.). If you're both into exactly the same stuff 24/7 it would be a bit weird. Mind you, if I was going out with a bird who actively hated New Order she'd probably get the heave-ho after not too long.

Indifference is fine though.. gives you a chance to bombard them with mix CD-Rs!

My girlfriend of nearly 5 years had heard of New Order when we got together.

She's now bought most of the JD/NO back catalogue for herself and is getting excited about her 3rd outing to see the band.

She says her favourites are:

  1. Super Furry Animals

  2. Tom Waits

  3. New Order

  4. Joy Division

  5. Monaco

So I think I'm making progress. Previous girlfriends attended one gig and then refused to go with me again - Alexandra Palace, GMex, etc. You know, the beer, the rowdieness, the shouting 'New Ordah' during other bands' sets, staying in the bar 'til NO are on, the late nights...

Love vs New Order?

I don't see the problem, really... it's not because you have different musical tastes that it's not going to work... !

My wife is sick and tired of hearing New Order pretty much too often, but I still love her ;)

But then again, depends.. if she would have been totally against my little trip in May to see New Order, that would have been a problem... but it's not strictly related to NO then ;)

Never had a problem explaing my love for the Order to females, it's my love for The Fall and Neubauten where I run into problems

hmm, not many mrs hibsters have come to gigs, they've usually liked at least one of their songs (one even preferred electronic to NO) but generally in the car i'm driving so i control the stereo & can stick at least 1 cd in the multichanger.

dont really listen to them much at home either - on the way to work etc is different - but have far too many cds to catch up on to listen to the order 24/7 (thunderbirds are now & goldrush are last two).

agree with mr j in that you feel more protective/ rstrained when they accompany you to a gig.

(also may have to go see bon jovi with the current one, a small price to pay....)

Not if they're equally as much into New Order as yourself. If the man in my life (ha!) was as besotted with the Order as much as me, then the race would be on to see who could get down the front first!

ha ha, well its different for blokes!

mind you she seems perfectly ok with my tendency to all things new order so far

Aren't tickets quite expensive for them?

Plus what about the mental trauma?

It really wouldn't bother me either way, whether he was in to New Order and the chances are he wouldn't be. I think it's better to have your own interests anyway. I would feel a bit claustrophobic if I was seeing someone with the exact same interests as me. Having said that, if I was to discover he was a Coldplay fan I would have to kick him in to touch. Some things are completely unacceptable :)
