The first Tindersticks record is about as perfect as pop gets, as is Mazzy Star's "She Hangs Brightly", IMHO. And I'm afraid I've gotta do my trainspotter bit here, Depth Charge: "Screamadelica" came after the Scream's jangle-pop, er, "classic", "Sonic Flower Groove".

Dexy's Midnight Runners are the finest purveyors of Northern Soul this country has ever produced and if i'm not mistaken the caper was put together in your neck of the woods, Birmingham or thereabouts. Their last album 'Don't Stand Me Down' is one of the great undiscovered classics of our time, track down a copy and be joyfully blown away. They are indeed still seen trotting around the Midlands - sadly mostly Wolverhampton. Did you know that the Shuglet is actually related to one of the Dexy's? I told him that was so good that I'd let him be Scottish if he wanted. ;)

Yeah, I saw that a week or two back. I think it was Billy Adams he was claiming a link with, (Shug?), but i'm pretty sure Billy Adams has been on this side of the border just once and he was probably on the Guinness at the time so that makes him more Oirish than Scottish. Any road up Cheeky chops, the Shugster IS English and you aint palming him off onto us just because his fourth cousin twice removed on his great aunts uncles side had a pint in Scotland once! ;)
