Ok, its friday, im bored, looking forward to my first pint tonight...

A rather tantalising suggestion by Shug to post ya all time worst lyrics seems to be the way forward :)

New Order lyrics welcome - but prepare to get flamed!! hehe!

I'll start off with one of the most high content sugar sweet sickly songs ever recorded.. Anyone remember Bran Van 3000 - Discosis?

check this out and (try all you want ;) ) to convince me and yourself that they aint blatently taking the piss!! there are some seriously dubious lines in this song!

You see I met her on a Monday And her name was Chill From the what-the-hell family's Relation to free will Yeah she circled my circumference Said she had some time to kill Been combing the beach for a beautiful freak And I just might fight the fool She said Ooh, I think I'm liking you Ooh, do you feel the same the way too? I said, ooh, I think I do I said, ooh, I think you're cute I said, ooh, merci beaucoup I said, ooh ooh And maybe I'm calling you baby And I might just say you're my love cliché You're my love cliché And I like it that way So we fell in love that summer Underneath the Star Wars sign Drinking cases of each other And guitar and April Wine And we lay down in the alley As the sunlight hit the pine And talked of all things great Like the rose of Gertrude Stein And we fell in love that summer But it lasted 18 weeks Used to kiss her on the hummer Now I kiss her on the cheek And I vividly remember In a moment of recline When she whispered in my ear "I think I like both kinds" She said, ooh, I think I do I said, ooh, I think you're cute She said, ooh, merci beaucoup I said, ooh ooh And maybe I'm chasing Amy And I might just say you're my love cliché You're my love cliché And I like it that way I'm feeling love So why don't you tell me what's great? When the puck hits the net At the Stanley Cup game And Miles hits the notes When he sketches out of Spain And the wedding gets you high From the perfect catering And love makes you lie Even though you bought the ring And you screw with the And the minor chord change And the more things change The more they stay the same But I'm looking for your kind Yeah I'll drive through the driving rain 'Cause what was so wrong From the very beginning That we would have to change You're my love cliché And I like it that way And maybe I'm calling you baby And I might just say you're my love cliché

I wince every time during Electronic's "Out of My League:"

You could give me so many thingsBut without your love, all of it stinks

Yep...sure does.

This is sickly of all sickliness

There's a really crap rhyme in the Manics' "Dead Yankee Drawl", where he goes

"but reality for TV is Disney, not King, Rodney".

Why couldn't he just say Rodney King, it would still have fitted !

PSB have done some shockers as well..

I want a dog, A chihuahua When I get back to my small flat I want to hear somebody bark. Don't want a cat, Scratching its claws all over my Habitat Giving no love and getting fat Oh, (oh oh) you can get lonely And a cat's no help with that

weird fuckers!!

the WORST lyrical ski11z i've ever heard came from a band i saw once a long, long time ago. for anyone's good, i hope they never actually committed anything to tape, but the lyrics were something like:

"My girlfriend is a nun, she's got some damn hot buns, she keeps me on the run, my girlfriend the nun."

picture this against a chunky, out-of-tune thrashing thwapping on a poor, abused six-string bass. :nonono:

...but Shugzy, how fair is it to pick on the Unibrow Twins? nearly ALL their lyrics are just as shitey!

(though i must confess a bit of amusement stemming from "Married with Children." mainly, "I hate the way that you are so sarcastic...and you're not very bright. You think that everything you've done's fantastic...your music's shite & it keeps me up all night, up all night..." i need not say anymore, ne? :rolling:

Speaking of tambourines, I've always really hated the line in ABBA's "Dancing Queen," feel the beat of the tambourine.

Yeah, I was at this club the other night and they had this killer sound system...huge subwoofers...I mean you could feel the thump of the tambourine right in your chest.

I personally have tricked out my phat ride with 18 woofers so I can pump up my tambourine CDs.

 :rolling:  so THAT'S what was keeping me up all night last night! a modded out *tambourine-blasting* f-body!

...perhaps "feeling the beat of the tambourine" actually refers to someone physically beating you with a tambourine? i'm sure you'd feel it in the morning...those little metal discs can bite! :nonono:

That whole SONG is an absolute abortion to begin with - always fooking hated it from day one. Not to discredit Abba of course. (some good songs but, you know, THAT song just pisses me off!) :nonono:

I'll be back with some cringey lyrics later on - prepare thyselves for a long trawl then my dears.....

Actually as football songs go I quite liked it. I also feel privelleged to support a team who's star player has appeared on a New Order record 6 degrees of seperation wise. Had that Barney and Barnsey poster from the N.M.E. on me wall for many a year. Big up to 'Skippy' aka Craig Johnstone for writing the Anfield Rap and inventing Adidas Predator footie boots. The documentary were he was glueing bits of old inner tubes onto normal boots for the prototypes and had a special camera showing the extra spin and swerve on the ball was class, bend it like Beckham indeed, shit we have one of our own to thank for virtuallly inventing Beckham :skeptic:

Hmmmm....just didn't like it at all, but that's my opinion, and what's even more heinous is hearing that coming from a Liverpool-born exiled Scouse/surrogate Manc (or "Skank Mouse" as some people call me!) who just happens to despise football!

BTW talking of David Beckham, looks like they're now placing bets on his yes/no predicament at present - his left foot has been featured on the cover of nearly every scummy tabloid today!!!

Cringeworthy lyrics, eh? Why does my mind harken back to the second Jam album? Don't get me wrong, I like The Jam a lot, and there are some good tracks on Modern World (I Need You, Life From A Window, and the title song) but songs like Here Comes The Weekend "So don't hang around and be foolish/ do something constructive with your weekend" and "If we tell you that you got two days to live/then don't complain cos that's one more than you'd get in Zaire" and London Traffic are truly banal. Honestly, I've played those songs twice in my life, the second time to make sure that they were truly bad songs. :nonono:

I've got to revive this thread just long enough to put in a vote for Madonna's "Runaway Lover" from Music. In her most earnest voice possible:

You’re set adrift with no direction Just like a ship that’s lost at sea You don’t care where you drop your anchor Make sure it doesn’t land on me

Yeah, OK, I'll do that.

Great image, huh? I'd direct the video for that one.

bad lyrics? anything by the pet shop boys but one that sticks in my mind went something like " i,m single, bilingual" dont know what it was called but it was absolute rammel

I always wince at this line: "opportunity knocked you up I guess/gave you your little baby success" :nonono: from the normally great lyricist of the Church Steve Kilbey. Banal beyond belief.

There is a certain ABC song which contains the following

It was called Single Billingual shockingly enough.

Bit harsh on the ol' PSB's I reckon...theres far worse things about them then their lyrics

Yeah - I know that one: "That Was Then But This Is Now" - absolutely priceless, but from the same album ("Beauty Stab") on the track "Unzip" there's an even better one: "She's Vegetarian except when it comes to sex.../ He's strictly ad-lib except when he consults the text..." I mean, talk about being mealy mouthed and unspeakably crap couplets!!

Just unearthed an absolute CLASSIC when it comes to the most banal, clichéd - and predictable - series of rhyming couplets in pop history. Possibly.

Who remembers the mega hit by The STEVE MILLER BAND in 1982 - "ABRACADABRA"??

The opening verse goes thus:

I heat upI can't cool downYou got me spinnin'Round and roundRound and roundand round it goesWhere it stopsnobody knows

wonder how long it took him to come up with those pearls of wisdom? And where's the rhyming couplet that contains the words "moon" and "June" ?? On the twelve inch version, probably.
