Dunno what everyone's whinging about. If the Order hadn't have been on TOTP I would've been in the pub still, so would've missed the bird from Neighbours. Er, wow!

Did Barney have a monitor? He looked down to his left an uncomfortable number of times. A monitor to mime? I've heard it all now.. .

And why bother having Phil Cunningham there? Perhaps they've dragged him back from LA early cos they've already started practising for the forthcoming gigs?

I thoroughly enjoyed it. Barney looked younger and managed to keepo the dodgy dance moves in check. Nice to see Hooky on the dodgy SynDrums again. The only down side was that they edited the fuckin edit. They should've cut down that awful 5 minute dirge by Pulp instead

Awful 'dirge' by Pulp? Odd how you can say that when OASIS were on with another lump of retro 60's shite ;) What tossers bought this single then eh...? Own up....

 right you are. hence, why it is my favourite moment involving her!

that entire album is really brilliant as well. and the tag line from all the adverts that i saw that went with it. "Murder Ballads: Ten Songs That All End the Same Way."

:evil4:

Great quote there, janaki. Just saw Mr. Cave and his cohorts this past week. Pretty damn good, and they ended it all with a beyond belief version of Stagger Lee. Blixa's screaming voice is still going round my head.

Another O/T plug for Nick--i just saw him last Monday. He and his band put on a fantastic show, highly recommended!!

Great, Green Giant!

I'm going to see Cave and The Bad Seeds monday night!

S.

Hello Seb! It was well worth the seven month wait for the show, probably enhanced by the fact that the Crystal Ballroom is a non-seated venue. All I'll say about the show right now is that Warren Ellis is a maniac on stage. I know you'll enjoy the show, and I'll think about you around 7 o'clock Pacific time on Monday.

And :hi: to Alyssa.

Well I just watched it on BBC America, That was shamefull!!! Almost as bad as when they mimed Regret on Baywatch. The song was only 2:58 in length, was it even worth their time to show. But at least they put the heart into it. You would almost think they were playing live exept Barney's not very good at it.

Well at least I got to see them again.

I have only seen Regret & Here to stay on TOTP and they mimed both. I know they mined Crystal, have they ever played live on the show?

just watched the tape of TotP from earlier today.

and yeah, it was rather depressing, really. good and bad...as many have commented, good to see them getting some sort of promotion. but the miming thing really, really, really, really, really sucked. though the faces Hooky was making whilst playing the syndrum toys were highly entertaining...and i agree with whoever said he looked like he was about to collapse! and about Stephen...he looked none too amused. the truncation of the song was rather annoying, too.

granted, as i taped it, i fast-forwarded through most of the show, pausing in spots to listen to a moment or two of whatever was going on. 'cept for a few people. but it seemed to me that everyone else performed their respective songs live except for the Order and Holly Valance. which is kinda...depressing. :nonono:

but it leaves me rather torn...again, the notion of getting attention, but...argh.

not very impressive. rather depressive, really.

wish i'd gotten to see previous performances of theirs on TotP...done *live*. :D

Thanks Shug and Janaki (what is bbc america, is it on satellite? i don't even have cable!) I am now buried in the hole (or hell) they call finals. hey Iain, no problem. seriously, let me know if you'd like a copy. :D

BBCA is indeed available on DirecTV's system...not sure if it's also included as part of any other satellite networks. however, i DO know that it's also available on some digital cable systems...at my old house, we had AT&T Digital and we did indeed get BBCA there, too. which was nice. we switched over to DirecTV after the move, cos we found out it was actually CHEAPER to have a satellite dish than to get digital cable! (at the old house, we couldn't have had a dish, cos it was a townhome and they had stupid rules... :nonono: )

but really, the only reason we have any sort of special TV-viewing apparatus at all is so we can watch F1... :D

(however, there are definite perks. and no, Eastenders is not one of them. :nonono: )

best of luck on the finals, though!

I thought it was well funny. Not brilliant for their credibility though...why was theirs the only song edited though? Much as I like the Doves track, I'd ahve prefered to see that cut down by a couple of minutes + added the NO track

Haha I didn't watch it, so I escaped unscathed :)

I made my parents promise to watch it..got a text from Ma saying 'I'm a bit worried about Hooky, he looks like he's going to pass out, and your dad still thinks he's younger than him!

Must admit that I am a tad concerned about the boy Hook (or at least the way he looks avec geetar these days) - seems to be suffering a bit from age.

I missed it too. bugger. remembered there was a repeat saturday so when got up checked the schedule to see it was repeated at 1 fookin 50 a.m.

did see holly valance miming on T4 on sunday am though, which was nice...

re the 3 manc bands on the same totp question they had the mondays & the roses on the same totp once - think they both made their debut on totp on the same show but cant think of 3 on same one off top of head

Well at least Pulp did it 100% live! Remember Hooky saying on MTV how much he liked Pulp especially when they looked crap on TV. He liked the fact they didn't seem to care. Pity they didn't try and re-create the video which (as I'm sure most of you may know) is in the style of Band Aid with lookalikes taking it in turn to do the vocals. Liam G, George M, Robbie W, Kylie M etc. Even better is on the Pulp CD2 they have a couple of bad cover versions of Pulp songs, including Disco 2000 by... Nick Cave! Back on topic to the off topic postings in this thread.

Thanks, Janaki, for the offer and for the luck (I need it). I would say that here to stay isn't worth the time and trouble it would take to copy it and send it. Not to be a begger and all, but did you get any of those NO documentaries that people have mentioned? If there was something that you would think worthwhile like that I'd be happy to let you go to the trouble.;)

Cheers,

Iain

Iain---no problem. sad thing about those documentaries...i'm in your camp there, wishing i could see them but unable to. BBC America is indeed cool for some things, but a lot of others...we either don't get at all, or else get them LOOOONG after they were aired in the UK. that's why i was so shocked that there's hardly any delay at all between when TotP is shown there vs. when it's shown here. though with the nature of such a show, i supposed if you were going to bother, having next to no delay would be imperative, really. ;)

yeah, it does seem silly...and since i don't have ready access to T-05 videocassettes...tell you what, though. if i do get hold of something useful (and longer than 2 minutes or so) to stick on the tape as well, i'll let you know...?

...when i finally get a region-free DVD player, perhaps this will come into play. :evil4:

Scared?? scared??

Of course I am....I'm fooking petrified me.... I'm shaking right to the core at the prospect of it..... In fact I'm so nervous I'm considering hiring some bodyguards to help me with gettin the whole thing rolling....been scouting the profile pics as well just to get some inspiration...... let's see then...... well you're no good for a start cos you look like you could fit into that trophy that's being held aloft....... Bagpuss could potentially be fatal if anyone dissed him or looked at him the wrong way but then again, I've seen Timbo's other pics and they don't particularly scream out "Bruiser" to me.....um....Jarvo looks a contender, cos he's bald and mean-looking.....ditto Hubert as he's a proper SKIN 'EAD an' all! - well 'ard!.....Janaki? Funny how appearances can be deceptive - she certainly plays a mean guitar...so maybe I could consider her too!.....Gnu? Well, he eats berries, so what sort of a lightweight is that??......

Room 101 is where you truly get to know Martin for what he is :\pissedoff: Shug explained to me what room 101 is, Apparently it's a tv show in Britain where people rant about the things they hate. I never actually seen it so my recollection may be wrong but here it became a thread where you could rant and explain what you hated and why. Shug was in charge previously so he had to read all the posts and banish everything unless he wanted to be a right bastard, which was most of the time for my requests.

So, for example, I would describe how I hate going to school and hate doing homework and hate taking tests and writing papers and Martin would say BANISHED. I would then approach all my teachers and tell them to &*@#$*! off because Martin banished all the crap I had to do and I would get straight As for doing nothing!

Whatever pissed you off or bugged you, put it in room 101 and BANISHED!!

Iain: thanks for the explanation. i think, done correctly, such a thing could be fun. and scary. deliciously scary, maybe? :D

Marty: heh, and you've yet to actually HEAR me play! though i'll say this: my first guitar pick ever looked as though it had had bites taken out of it. i play very, very violently. though i've still yet to poke my eye out with any strings i've broken whilst flailing around...i know i've got the pick somewhere around, too. when i find it again, i'll scan it up as proof. ('course, it didn't help that my first-ever guitar had action that was much like a cheese cutter... )

and Cheeky and Marty: i'm definitely not in badass contention with the updated profile pic i've just put up. the Monkey here could probably take me going on that photo. or so it would look...you may well be right. appearances are damned deceiving. :evil4:

That's it. Janaki - I want you in my next band. For definite. If I can I will even pay your air fare for you to fly over here and jam with me!! ;) I cannot play guitar to save my life - save for one chord mantras a la Stereolab/Faust/Krautrock... and am still desperately trying to learn the bass (a la Kim "Ultra Cool" Deal of course)... but I'm a keyboard and drum abuser all the same. Not that I know how to play the keyboards that is - and I'm certainly NO fucking chin-stroking chain-smoking pile-stoking muso on drums either - but like they say - being a TRUE punk means not knowing how to actually play, so I consider myself a true punk in that respect..... :D :D

Darlings - CM and JJ - I shall have to update my profile pic soon also as I'm sick of wearing that eyeball on me head forever more..... guess you'll have to ready yourselves for the genuine shock of seeing me IN REAL LIFE!!!.....

AaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrggggHHhhhHhhhhhhhHHhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!
