Ally, you've failed address my point. Hooky and Stephen may well have been misquoted here, though frankly I doubt it.

I came back from South America believing this was probably (nae, almost certainly) 'it' for the band (and that may still hold true, certainly as far as live performances go, and possibly any mooted album). And I didn't get this information from any newspaper interviews whilst over there.

I don't think the reporter got the wrong end of the stick at all in this instance, he just reflected the mood in the camp at that time.

And that isn't me just jumping to any 'dodgy conclusions'. Maybe they just thought they were breaking up two months ago, and have had a change of heart now, I don't know?

Well, I can't comment on that because I didn't go to the South American dates but I'm certainly not doubting what you're saying. From a distance to me it just seemed the band were lethargic and sick of touring because they'd just finished a long (for New Order) string of dates. That was just what I took away from what was being said at the time and I thought that's very different from a definite split.

To me, reading the interview again it still sounds like Hooky and Steve were simply speculating; hardly an iron clad "this is it for New Order" but rather "no plans right now" sort of thing. With all the Joy Division stuff on the horizon this year I thought it would be unlikely for them split for good.

I suppose what I was trying to say was that some hasty conclusions were jumped to, not necessarily by you personally Al, but by some. If there was a real feeling from the SA dates this was the definitely end of NO then I'll take your word for it.

I was talking more about the interview's effect I suppose.

As long as NO do music/gigs I enjoy and more importantly they enjoy and feel have some relevancy then I'm happy for the band to continue and if they do gig this year I look forward to it and meeting up with some you guys again! Cheers!

The thing with this lot is I doubt we'll never get an official 'we've split up'. That just isn't their modus operandi, is it?

I think they probably just need a little time apart to realise how much they all genuinely need one another.

Think the touring is perhaps too much of a slog though, and there's some big personalites in there starting to clash.

This year is their last huge Cash Cow what with the Joy Division movie, so you'd think they'll milk it. Still can't see them doing any gigs though. But you never know with them, do you?

Wow, a couple of days without looking at the site and I come back to this!!

Thought that new album was binned, pleased that they've come to their senses.

At least they won't be doing any gigs for a bit, time to save up again!

As I have said the South American story was probably another "legpull" by Mr. Hook.

These guys will be playing in their 60's on the rubber chicken and Indian casino circuit and making a pile of money doing it. (Something that never happened on Factory because of the money of The Hacienda) :laugh:

It's funny again. German Music Website Intro.de titles New Order: Alles in Ordnung and translated the NME article nearly 1:1 from english to german. Source for them worldinmotion.net, too. :D
