Just wondering! I rather enjoy this song a lot! Am I the only one, or are their others that like it? It reminds me musically in some parts of Spooky and Avalanche off of everyones hated album REPUBLIC!![]()

I like it too, Kimberley! I like the drum part especially but I wonder if it's real or synthesized. Marty, any thoughts on this, Mr. Drummer Boy? It has more emotion than some of the songs on GetReady. Though I hope that Barney isn't really saying "I check up on the scores and listen to the Corrs"!!
Don't like it at all I'm afraid (I have tried, honest). I particularly hate the scores / Corrs line. Makes my buttocks clench every time.
It's my favourite song of the Get Ready era, at least for the music. The drum part really sounds like early New Order. And I wouldn't compare it to Republic: it's much better.
i actually do like it quite a lot, but completely don't recall the dreaded scores/Corrs couplet. *shudders*
shall have to listen again. but indeed, you aren't the only one who likes it, Kim!

Yeah - it's pretty damn good. Really like the synth strings sound on that one - something there's not a lot of on the new stuff (other than TMW, PITL, HTS, that bit in 60mph - oh ok, maybe it has been used a bit then).
And didn't Arthur Baker produce and play keyboards on that one?

Yeah - the drums on this track are actually played by Gillian - why else do you think they left this track off the album and put it out as a B-side instead?? ![]()
Oh, and for the record, Barney should REALLY be singing.... "I check up on the scores.....then I trip out on The Corrs.....Hanging from closed doors" - your version must be a bootleg then. :D

Really, honest and true? Where did you find this information...tears off Martin mask...MR. BAKER? ![]()
I was wondering about those drums. They sound like me, actually; either hat or snare, but never both at once, and tapped very softly. Plus, the whole kit sounds like it was recorded in mono with one mic: the cymbals are overly loud, the snare is tiny, and the kick sounds like crap.
I also like Hooky's "naked" bass at the beginning, which fits in well with the lyics...a great production decision if you ask me (and you didn't). Barney's vocal pitch really blows ('specially on the "will open up your eyyyy-ee-ahh-uh-iiizzeee" line), but I like the intimate lips-against-the-mic performance.
If only I was sure that the head on the door was the Corrs.
I defer to you two gentlemen(???) in terms of recording and production.
I like the off 4/4 time of the hi-hat(is that syncopated?) with the smells like teen spirit-esque snare pattern(is there a name for that?) I played drums for a couple years, but haven't played in four or five and don't even own a kit anymore. I know that syndrums have gotten better so wasn't sure if the drums were playable humanly, i just know they're way beyond me. And while we're on the subject, is it humanly possible to play Here To Stay(full length) and Vanishing point? I know Martin has talked about the integration of syndrums and real stuff, but if you were naked, with no electricity and just sticks, and a full kit, could ya do it?
To be honest, I haven't listened to it in months. my initial enthusiasm wore off with the release of Get Ready

"Teen-Spirit" snare patterns????!!!!????!!!!!!
C'mon that pattern is a very very very common and oft-overused snare break - so common that - GASP! - I NEVER EVER PLAY IT!! I prefer more original snare hits! (adopts snobby demeanour like some fat elitist muso - har har har). Actually one of my previous rock bands (a younger community band of mostly teenagers whom I helped out on drums and occasional keyboards with) did a whole show of cover versions like "Teen Spirit" and that "WOO-HOO!" one by Bluurgh...and guess who had to do the Dave Grohl bits almost beat for beat? - Yup! MOI! Ha ha! What a laff that was! And I got my own back by speeding up so fast at the end the poor kids started looking very worried indeed (the bit where Kurt screams.. "Denial..") As for "Bong 2" - I insisted on playing THAT one so goddamn fast the whole song often caved in by the end!
Sure beats the crap out of the originals at any rate! ;)
BTW, I HAVE done "Vanishing Point" - I am perfectly capable of playing all those drum/hi-hat/kick-drum bits in REAL TIME on a REAL ELECTRONIC KIT as preset with Roland TR 808 and 303 sounds. :D It's fooking brilliant. I know the whole drum track off by heart anyway.... God I'm so fucking smug tonite - someone's gotta shoot me soon.....

BOOWAAA HA HA HA HA HA HA HAAAAAA!!!
"I must fight this sickness Find The Corrs I. must. FIGHT. THIS. SICKNESS!!!!....."
Someday a real rain will come and wipe the Corrs off the streets.
Now what's this smack about Gillian on drums?

I just wanted to quote that bit out of context.

wish i could've heard that version (anything like that mix you did...?) do you think maybe it would've thrown them off more if you'd changed it to a polka mid-song, though...? which would also make it better than the original... ![]()

Thank you. Very nice.

right. here's what you do:
1.) hollow out their heads.
2.) shrink self down.
3.) climb in.
4.) do really messed up cover of "Cars." only (of course) change every instance of said word to "Corrs."
(
)
5.) lather.
6.) rinse.
7.) repeat.

Room 101 starts on its own volition!
BANISHED: Mr. Ritman's bloated, pretentious, condescending, self-indulgent, narcissistic diatribes towards sincere questions.:finger:
Seriously though, Marty, when are you going to let us here some of your music? Getting to know your musical tastes and general preferences here makes me curious about the music on which you would put your mark. That goes for Janaki, Brett, and anyone else who makes music and cares to share. I wish I had something good enough to share. I've only written one song with words. I wouldn't dare let Marty get a hold of it!![]()
And I'm jealous that you can play vanishing point. I love the song and love the drums, especially the hi hat (who doesn't love a good hi-hat?). I guess I wish four things- a kit to play, a place to play it, the skill to play it well, and the time in which to play.
And per your suggestion. . .
![]()
but that is only if Janaki can't let me borrow a firearm or two and a thousand dollars or so to buy a ticket (and if I can find my goddamn passport) to do the job myself

So I'm the straight man now? Glad I could be of service. Couldn't you have fixed the punctation while you were at it? I'm a little :o

I do this cool thing sometimes where I hit the snare on the "two" and the "four" of every measure. It's wicked.

To throw even more shit off-balance, I can do sixteenths with just ONE HAND!
(Only problem is, my cock gets awfully sore and swollen after it all and I find it very hard to walk for six hours.......) :D

Actually THAT remix I did on that CD was actually inspired by the way I wanted that young band to play the song - dead slow on the verses and utterly apeshit breakneck on the chorus!!!
The idea was sown over two years ago - so I just HAD to knock up THAT remix - just so I could hear how it sounded....and let's face it......it IS hilarious isn't it??
What did you think of what I did to "Accelerator" ?? :D
yes, it's quite hilarious.
i wrote you about it too...did you get that e-mail..? :)
"Accelerator" sounds like its name with what you did to it. and a bit like a big plane taking off. :D
i think i've only heard the original version once, though...so i'm not as well-equipped for comparison.

...er, prehensile utensil, anyone? ![]()
*whistles*
*backs away slowly*
hhmm...when i first heard the song, i didn't like it much, but it has grown on me. most songs do.
I like it.....but then again, I love Slow Jam, Rock the Shack and all the other songs with dodgy lyrics;) Does that make me strange?............
Cue hilarious responses![]()
