What's better to breathe....oxygen or dogfarts?
Dogfarts, definately
They aid in strong bones and a strong immune system!:p

And that's a considered opinion based on years of research

pumped full of drugs wrote: I'm just curious what DM songs could be called "successful" meshing of guitar and synths?
Barrel of a Gun
Never Let Me Down Again
I Feel You
The Sweetest Perfection
Clean
Personal Jesus
Enjoy the Silence
Dream On
Breathe
Home
Behind the Wheel
Martin Gore is actually a great guitar player...does a lot of interesting rhythmic and textual stuff with the guitar.
His guitar on Barrel of Gun is really awesome.
Live, Gore kicks ass on the guitar. His guitar solo on the live version of ETS on One Night in Paris is awesome.
I think DM and NO are both great at combining synths with guitars......I like both of them equally.....they are both brilliant for different reasons.

Ermmmm Enjoy the silence is a sampled guitar, and it's clearly a Hooky inspired line.
Pretty sure PJ is an emulator/Emax too, dunno any od the other tracks I'd grown up by then and grown weary of bands who try to be cool.
There are half a dozen songs I still like, but the rest is pish

LMAO! Best joke in this entire thread!
I'm sure you have proof of this ludacris claim....right?
My Subjective Opinions on the following.
Barrel of a Gun - SHIT! Proof they should've packed it in after "SOFAD"
Never Let Me Down Again - Sampled guitar at the start that fucked up when they hit play on the sequencer...really not a guitar-y song.
I Feel You - Meh, to me, it's Personal Jesus Pt. 2
The Sweetest Perfection - Guitars on this one? I always thought it was just MIDI patches and such.
Clean - Same as above
Personal Jesus - Not my fave Mode song, but good use of guitar...they shouldn't have made it a habit
Enjoy the Silence - Good use, balances synth parts nicely
Dream On - Yawn, a good chill song, nothing more.
Breathe - What was this one again?
Home - Actually one of their better post-Wilder efforts...an oddly affecting song for me for some reason.
Behind the Wheel - Again, guitars (for DM) are best sampled or just not used. Martin really needs to put down the guitar and start writing better tunes.

It's better by Lacuna Coil.
*laughs* Air or dogfarts lol Brilliant

The Guitar in Enjoy the Silence is NOT sampled. It was played by Gore on a Gretch country Gentleman Hollowbodied guitar. If you listen carefully, you can see hear the scratching between riffs when he is switching chords.
As for it being inspired by Hooky...it could just as easily be inspired by clean jazz guitar lines.....Ive never really thought of Hooky when hearing that song.
ETS live is a highlight of DM shows.....Martin pays a kickass funk solo in the middle of the song during the drum break.
The guitar line in Personal Jesus is played live as well, both in Concert and on record.
its a tribute to Gore's guitar skill that he plays so well that you think its sequenced.

I beg to DIsagree.
Barrel of a Gun is a brilliant song. Ill take it over Regret or Krafty any day. Great melody, great lyrics, great synths, great vocals from Gahan, and some pretty mean twisted and distorted guitar.
NLMDA -
Gore plays the guitar riff to this song on a guitar these days, and live it sounds awesome.
The Sweetest Perfection
Gore plays slide guitar all through this song. When I saw Gore solo in LA in 2003, he also played live slide guitar during this song.
Clean
Gore plays tons of slide guitar on this song as well, though the guitar is proccessed through a synthesizer.
Personal Jesus.
I agree.
I Feel You
I loved it when I first heard it....not so much now. Gore rocks it when they play it live.
ETS
I agree with ya. :)
Breathe
Lovely 50's esque lounge song from Exciter with some gorgeous guitar lines and lead vocals from Gore.
Home.
Lovely song.
Behind the Wheel.
I love the guitar on Behind the Wheel. Simple but effective. It plays off the synth line quite well.
One of the best things about DM is that they take guitars and make them sound not like guitars.....Gore does a lot of interesting atmospherics, textures, and sequencer type stuff with his playing.
Dont get me wrong....
I love Barney and Hooky's playing as well.

If I'm correct, the joke around the time the single was released was that Hooky made a guest appearence on it.
NO , of course! What a strange question. DM aren't a guitar band but a synth band! They used guitar long after they started doing music with synths. NO was formely a guitar band. That's make a big difference. And, on the other hand i really don't understand why NO fans can be interested by DM music ? There's nothing common. Nothing. DM sont un groupe pour minets et je déteste leurs machines .![]()
