New Order and Depeche Mode are two of my favorite bands ever. Both of them have managed to successfully gel synthesizers and guitars beautifully. But who has done it better? NO or DM? Perfect Kiss is a masterpiece and an excellent example...but then, so is Personal Jesus :D

Oh, i know the answer to this one.

it has to be Depeche Mode for sure. quality band. quality synths.

New Order are far less superior to the Mode.

Id say neither. Stock Aitken and Waterman produced a unique blend of both to create the punk sound for the 80's. This template was copied by Depeche Mode and New Order to lesser success.

New Order are Sonia pastiche ? :eek3:

You learn something new everyday,eh? :skeptic:

Edit: in terms of commercial success, then you are probably right about Stock and the other daft cunts, but I don't see how New Order copied.

Probably cos you are just taking the piss

Er... Guitars on Depeche Mode?

I mean, seriously... all guitars with DM are quite easy, nothing spectacular.

DM is more pop, NO is more rock, but they all have their own way to do it.

Not familiar with their work, Steve...

Listening to the new Trembling Blue Stars album at the mo... The and Bob Wratten's previous incarnation The Field Mice do/did a pretty good keyboard/guitar thing, albeit in a more indiepop/twee vein...

Durutti Column as well... :thumb:

Maybe the band that started out playing guitars.

I would say New Order. Close call though but I think the difference is that Depeche Mode makes good guitar-dominated tracks and good electronic-dominated tracks. New Order makes tracks that are both at the same time.

Who cares. You enjoy who you enjoy.

In my case I enjoy New Order.....who would've thunk?

N.O. without question,I don't think Depeche started using a guitar until around '89 did they? & then it's only as an effect rather than a lead instrument.Absolutely no argument IMO:nono: :thumb:

It's a joke right???

Depeche Mode are shit whether they use guitars or not

And that's a considered opinion based on years of research :read:

i don't think there's any comparison or likeness at all between the bands.

I've never thought of N.O being like Depeche Mode. both completely different with different fans. Mode fans are like Cure fans. i.e gays and girls.

New Order has much more guitars than Depeche Mode....I listen to both a lot (and I'm fans of both groups!), so that's my opinion. So, New Order have mixed synths and guitars better, only because there's more guitars in their music compared to Depeche Mode. But both are wonderful bands in their own respect, IMO. :read:

My favourite DM song by a considerable distance is "Enjoy the Silence" - now I wonder why that might be?

That's an interesting question. The difference is DM is a synth band who later added guitars and NO is a guitar band who later added synth.

DM is definitely better with synths, no argument there. But NO order was "meshing" them together long before DM even picked up a guitar.

My vote goes to NO simply because they were doing it first and because I thought DM did their best work when they incorporated no or very little guitars: the trilogy of albums Black Celebration, Music for the Masses and Violator(to a leser extent)

Well, between them those 2 catagories make up a substantial majority of the population, so that's a good marketing decision really. (If by 'girls' you include 'women' of course).

But yeah, DM and NO have zero in common.
