Best gig and worst

gmex 88 top top night and great support from acr and mondays

worst i thought blackpool last year was a bit wanky with the same bloody set that we'd heard since they got back together. Looking back it seems really appropriate to be (possibly) their last gig that i'll see, even hooky was quiet!)

Best: Brixton 87 Worst: Prbably agree with Tim on NEC '89. The night before was great but NEC was flat, Mondays were better that night.

Even though that was actually their soundcheck that we saw, and not a gig! The Mondays were a little late in arriving, and hadn't soundchecked by the time they were due on stage, so they did the soundcheck instead of the gig! It's a great tape, all the lyrics in the first three songs are one-two, and "i like that, turn it up" :)

best:nec 89,my first no gig,can't understand the negative comments the boot i've got sounds good

worst:blackpool 06,my last no gig,don't like jd and there was quite a bit of it

loads of others in between,move and hyde park prob my faves,hyde park more for the day out with my mates and the atmosphere at the gig more than the performance

I've only been to five in total, well four and a bit really, so not much to choose from.

Best is a toss up between Newcastle 2006 and Wembley 2006 Worst must be Werchter 2005 for various reasons

Close call between Sheffield Roxy 87 (prob because it was my first full gig after having to leave Brum 86 half way through ) and Reading 98 for my best.

Wembley Arena 87 was the worst, no question.Couldn't get my head round the bloody seats either

Still don't see how you could qualify Finsbury 87 as either 'boring' or 'mundane' - thought that was a prime example of the band at the very peak of their powers.

Right at the front for this from ACR onwards..I was seriously scared for my life.

Set list not fantastic..but they could have played Elegia all night and the crowd would have gone ape.

I broke two ribs the week before Bournemouth last year. Got big into the painkillers and battered right down the front.

Paid for it big time the next day.

I actually enjoyed the Finsbury '87 gig - not every night you get to see A Certain Ratio, Happy Mondays and New Order in quick succession (and even Railway Children were pretty good).

I was only 20 at the time so I quite enjoyed the violence of the crowd (probably would not enjoy it today as an oldtimer of 40). Remember it as a pretty good day - National Express Coach down from Leicester. Met up with some Canadian Order fans who led me astray - Fare dodging on the Tube and getting tanked up in loads of pubs. Spent the afternoon in the Park whilst the Canadians got high and one of them decided he was an aeroplane and jumped off an embankment. I thought New Order's performance was good although my judgement may have been impaired by one too many beers.

Also went to NEC 1989 and thought that was pretty boring. The lad next to reckoned it was great because it sounded just like the records. Remember saying to him that if that was the case he could have saved himself the trouble and stayed at home with his LPs.

To answer the Question.

Possibly Sheff Uni for sheer power of first 4 songs..(+ good venue )

Worst..Sheff City Hall..Band not interested and were off stage before 9pm

Oh yeah, found a gig online by New Order done in 1981 @ the porterhouse in Retford..sound is allright but great to hear some old classic tunez..if ya want i can hook u up with a copy

Yeah, NO were originaly supposed to be headling the Phoenix Festival, but that got pulled and they were shunted to Reading where, contractually, Garbage were already pencilled in as headliners.

But we all know who's show it really was, as Manson laster admitted!

Worst: N/A. The fact that there were no others I saw is bad enough, due to being 24 and living stateside. Plus I went to the Chicago gig w/ my now-ex...bittersweet memories and such.

Auckland 85 was a dream come true for me - my first NO gig. I was as happy as a pig in shit when I learned they were coming. I think I was 15 then. Pity I didn't stick around for the encore 'Love Juice' - fuck it - they didn't do encores back then!

...has anyone mentioned the Apollo 98 gig? That's got to figure somewhere in this.

Best show for me was seeing New Order for the first time at the Hacienda 20/7/83 .

For worst show its between Wembley 87 or the second show at the Hacienda 3/12/85 .

The worst gig has to be Liverpool. That would actually be a contender for worst gig i've ever been to. Although probably wasnt as bad as some crappy festival sets i've seen by other bands. Electric Picnic was noticeable for its blandness.

Best one for me was Brixton O5. Opening with Ceremony (first time that year i believe), great booze up in The Canterbury and NOT playing Atmosphere. Oh, and Martins now legendary "AGE OF CON FUCKING SENT!"

It is hard to say. In my opinion, it cannot be summed up as “best” or “worst”. It is what you feel that is the most important. I have read somewhere that oldmonkey said that he disliked a concert everyone enjoyed. It is exactly what I mean… Going to a concert is, even if you are not alone, a personal thing. The setlist and the way the band plays come second. Personally, it is all based on the feelings I get. And these feelings are different to everyone. We can all sing along, jump or dance on the same track, but the feelings deep inside are personal to everyone and the rating of the concert depends on it, in my opinion – if you need to rate it.

Of course, expecting the best experience while going to a New Order concert when you are a New Order fan is a minimum. But let’s face the fact that New Order is not really a stage band and the worst is always a possible issue… that said, it is surely why I like them…

I didnt go to Reading 87 but I'll take your word for it. Maybe the Slough one sticks in my mind as it was my first proper gig and they played a really good version of She's Lost Control as a treat. No one decent ever came to play in Slough so I remember the buzz being pretty good for this one. Always interested in what other people remember of this gig though of course.

I'm a bit of a baby as far as New Order gigs go, first one being Finsbury in 02, so don't have that much to choose from. However...

Best was Wembley last year. I wasn't expecting much from that one to be honest, because of the venue, but it was fantastic and far exceeded my expectations. Definitely the pick out of the ones I attended.

Worst by far for me was summer pops, ruined by the antics of security on the night

best for me was Birmingham Tower Ballroom, just after Brotherhood came out. "and how do you follow that, well this is how". Even the gigs that were poor by their standards like the oxford gig in 85 were still some of the most enjoyable shows I've been to by anyone. The "last gig" at Reading around Republic time sticks out for me, too.

Best - second night at the Barrowlands 2001. Worst - Manchester Academy Nov 2005.

Apollo'98 for me without a doubt - for my first New Order gig, I was spoilt.

We're gonna rock the fuckin' house!
