All the conflicting reports about if New order is or isn't broken up are a bit confusing for any fan. I enjoyed the interview here with Stephen. He's a soulful guy and obviously family comes first. Yes..maybe being 50 in a POP band is rough but there was also a more cutting edge and experimental side of Joy Division and New Order. Not all their work is pop work. None of Closer or Movement sounds very pop to me. AND so they are calling themselves Joy Division as the composers for the Control film? This is all curious indeed. Is this what is meant by the end of New Order? I am a hopelessly lost fan.

The 'old' New Order recorded the 'Control' soundtrack as Joy Division, without Phil, part of the 'new' New Order. However, Gillian wasn't in it as she was part of the 'old' New Order but only appeared with Joy Division once. Ian wasn't in it as he died 26 years before the film was made. Three surviving members of New Order recorded the soundtrack as Joy Division, even though the band ceased to exist 27 years ago. However, one of the surviving members of Joy Division and the 'Old' New Order is no longer in the band and is doing other stuff.

Bernard Sumner Stephen Morris Phil Cunningham (and it's rumoured) Gillian Gilbert and maybe a couple of 'guest' bass players

Simon Gallup would be the most obvious choice...he's been ripping Hooky off for so long that he probably already knows all of the Order's choons...

Always thought it would be interesting for this man to take his place:
Thinking a little about this ( and maybe this should be posted on one of the other threads in the forum ) but if this is the line up of New Order now then so be it. If Hooky wants to do his own thing then fine, and let New Order be.
I don't think that the question ( as posed in that other post ) should be will New Order ever record another album, but will New Order ever tour again? New Order can record more material without Hooky, plenty of people can sound like him ( personaly I hope that like all the times before, things get patched up and everyone gets happy again )but one way or another I doubt that we'll see anymore touring ( a real shame, I never had the chance to see them ).
I really hope New Order keeps going. Please don't let the Happy Mondays be the last band standing from Factory!

Hooky doesn't want to be in New Order. But I really don't see why the other boys can't carry on using the name if they want.
Yes, it won't be the same (I'd argue as much as anyone that Hooky IS 'New Order') but, quite frankly, Hooky doesn't want to carry on the brand name, so if the others want to pick up the mantle, then fair play to them.
Course, means we'll never get a gig ever again - Steve and Barney won't be rushing out to perform live, will they?

Indeed, a lot of people think this is the *official* site, which make this *almost* true for nowadays press. Some lazy journalist will google "new order new lineup" and BAM! we got "Gillian is back to New Order" in a headline somewhere in India.

New Order could carry on without Hooky, when it comes down to it, the most important person in any band is the lead singer.

I think Get Ready is a testament to this. Though it was Hooky on it, it didn't have his classic riffs...so it proves that someone else could stepin...
