New Order to carry on without Peter Hook? Band to continue despite bassist's walk out

New Order without bassist Peter Hook after band members Bernard Sumner and Stephen Morris issued a statement today (July 20) saying they vowing to continue.

The pair's statement comes after former bassist Hook claimed recently that he is not working with his bandmates anymore.

Sumner and Morris declared: "After 30 years in a band together we are very disappointed that Hooky has decided to go to the press and announce unilaterally that New Order have split up. We would have hoped that he could have approached us personally first. He does not speak for all the band, therefore we can only assume he no longer wants to be a part of New Order."

Last week's Hook told NME.COM that the band was over explaining: "We've decided not to work together anymore. It's been on-off-on for a while and last time we just went out separate ways."

Sumner and Morris did not reveal any plans about the band's future without Hook, only to declare that "New Order have NOT split up, they continue to exist".

OK. This is weird. I had a conversation this morning with a bloke I've known for years who is a big part of "the scene" up here. He insited that they are being offered for festivals next year with the bloke who plays Ian Curtis in the movie joining them on stage for a JD set. He insisted he wasn't at the wind up and said that this is what was behind Geoff Ellis's comments in the Daily Record the other week about getting Joy Divisoon to do next year's T In The Park.

Shirley not?

I was just about to leave work when BBC latest popped up.

You never know, Stephen & Bernard might just become the new Pet Shop Boys.

It's that time in the career when they have to drag out the Session Musician directory. Calling Pino Paladino....

...there's always Mark King (Twaaaaang!)

Now also being reported on Yahoo!

Here.

So what are we supposed to believe? Personally I think the Order without Hooky would be a tragedy. He was such an integral part that he just can't be replaced by some blank-faced session geezer for Gretton's sake!

Right, whens the tour :)

Anyways... the Bunnymen are still class and there is only two of the originals left.

Hooky should invite Gillian to join Freebass. That would set the cat among the pigeons. Trouble at farm. Tanks amok.

Go on Hooky, you know it makes sense. 2 vs 2. Genius from chaos. Music's always the winner. Or is it the bookies ?

If they do replace Hooky I hope it's someone who stands and glowers at the audience like the Hook of old rather than the chimp running around like a twat for the last few years.

There's a set worth of material that wouldn't rely on his sound I'm sure....

I can vouch for Pino Paladino - hes currently playing with the Who. He is a very accomplished Bass player.

They´ve made Hooky´s motion-capture during the WFTSC sessions, so the idea for the next tour would be put Barney, Steven and Phil playing live against a blue screen, then project the CGI Hook and create new basslines digitally.

...So the new album could have Peter Jackson as producer perhaps?

And remember that Pete de Freitas sounded so important to Echo & The Bunnymen with his-only-style of playing drums, as Hook sounds to New Order with his bass. Neverthless, music is not a exact science this proves its the possibility.

Now I'm really confused...

Instead of replacing Hooky, is the norm not that Barney will take his position and they can audition for a new singer ?

No offence to anyone, but didn't we all know this at least a month ago?

Oh yeah, I liked this last line:

"But a New Order spokeswoman said it was "probably just Hooky messing about. Everyone knows what he's like"."

Might be, if Barney was a bassplayer.:confused2:

It didn't stop him being the vocalist...

Yes, but they can't put bass notation on his autocue, or can they?

Well, Barney managed bass on 'Confusion' - even seen him do it live a few times!
