Hooky's 'Statement' - Not good news for those holding out for reconciliation

I think that Hooky (whom I love) is putting too much faith in his Freebass project (which might be brilliant or there again..) hence his remarks about the band. Freebass is interesting as a project- but could it be a full time concern? There's only so many guest appearances that you can rely on.

I would prefer zero in comparison with diet. But something to drink is better than both. Hooky got some money from Pizza Hut for mention them.
i don't like pizzas, but i love new order and this is sad,the real new order died with gretton though i agree totally with that

Don't understand the logic here. 'New Order' are still managed by Rob's management company ... and have kept - just about - a dignified silence. In fact, a month back everyone on this forum was whinging as to why they weren't saying something.
Hooky's just speaking on a whim. These comments were made in an airport lounge somewhere, weren't they? I doubt there was anyone sat beside him telling him what to say / what not to say. He's his own man. Fcuk all Rob Gretton could've done about that.
Imagine if myspace had been around in 1989? Or 1993? We'd probably have been exposed to a lot more info from members of New Order themselves if they had such open voices on the net back then.
Why don't we just wait and see what happens, eh?
I'm sure everything will turn out alright in the end.
So, everyone, just calm down, ok?
:D
There you go, that's much better.

Rob's management company is not Rob Gretton himself. If he was alive, he'd convince Hooky to not speak on a whim.

How on earth would he do that?
Hooky's not part of 'New Order' anymore anyways, so why would he bother what New Order's management want him to say?
Like I said, he's his own man. He can say what he wants, when he wants. Whether we like it or not.
Barney and Steve obviously do want to continue in 'New Order' so they're not gonna speak out of turn, are they, cos they want the brand to continue in some shape or form.
Hooky just doesn't want to be part of the band anymore. And that's that. He's obviously made his decision. What I find so hard to deal with now is that he doesn't want New Order to continue without him, although he wants nothing to do with it himself.
As has been said here before. It's like dumping a bird you don't want to be with, but then getting the arse when you see her out with someone else, continuing to live her life happily enough without you. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

How? Well Rob could call Hooky and you know, advise him. I don't know, but it seems that in the old days, Rob was more than just a manager. They seemed more together so a phone call wouldn't be out of the question. You make it sound as if it was strictly business among all of them. No more part of the group, no more contact? I don't think it was like that with Rob. Beside, he did call them all to do Reading '98 didn't he?

I don't understand then, why Hooky's MySpace-URL is http://www.myspace.com/peterhookneworder and not only .../peterhook or so. After his MySpace he is still in New Order (1980-) and Gillian is for example out (1981-2001).

because he still needs the new order connection to promote his DJ gigs, since no one in their right mind would hire someone with such mediocre DJing "skills" without some sort of novelty reputation.

Good point, which is why he probably wants the band to die with him....or he'll be "the original bassist" and "once part of" guy.....which who really gives a s*** once those titles are included.

Roundtable Pizza, King Arthur special!
No pizza like it! Screw Pizza Express or Pizza Smut!
Finally, the voice of reason! Don't forget the thick crust either.

I believe Hooky would like Freebass to be seen as more than merely a side project. If he makes the break from New Order before the push for his "new group", it can be perceived as more of a new beginning than a stop gap. If it affords him more opportunity to play gigs, why wouldn't he put his eggs in that basket? I wasn't holding out hope to ever see New Order live again but without Hooky the chances are less than zero.
I'm a little more confused about Barney & Stephen's statement. Some possible scenarios:
Calling Hooky's bluff. If they say there's life left in the band, Hooky can be lured back into the fold. If they want to continue, his contribution is essential.
They're not comfortable with Hooky deciding for them when it's GAME OVER.
They actually plan on continuing without him. They could do more soundtracky, noodley stuff and there wouldn't be the internal pressure to gig.
It's all a big wind up (Hooky included) to keep people talking.

Yes, that's true. And he makes some contraversial statements in his blog for promoting this. Maybe he is sponsored by MySpace, too? But this isn't very consequent. He doesn't want, that the others use the brand "New Order", but he does.
We shouldn't critize his DJ-Sets. If New Order would do a gig. And he would make a DJ-Set after that, nobody would complain.

It's when they were starting to take preference over live gigs we perhaps should've started to worry...?
Remember all the threads about Athens which were suddenly removed from this site?

why does everyone seem to attach so much importance to that one tiny section of his myspace? it's tiny and means nothing and isn't likely to ever get updated, so stop going on as if it's some massive thing that dictates the future of the band!

Don't think everyone is Jack. Quite surprised Nobby is if I'm being honest. His comments are probably a bit lost in translation, can never tell when he's taking the p!ss, or not. That German sense of humour!
It's your old man's words that count here though, and you gotta admit, they are indeed "some massive thing that dictates the future of the band!" ![]()
Jack, you're 17ish, we're all old gits, and most of us are not as geeky as I. The internet, domains and page URL's are all strange and frightening, half the inmates here probably click banner adverts, you see my point?
As for the important points of this thread, like I said above, I'm not desperately impressed with the old fella's behavior, but have got to ask how such a genial (if viciously sarcastic) person could be pushed into acting this way.
Fact is no fucker here knows the half of it (well you might, but only just I'd reckon), most don't know a tenth of it, and from some of the posts on here these last few days, there's a few who's cluefulness and amount of knowing would need to be written as 1x10^-50.
I agree with the idea that Steve and Barney might make some good tunes.....but NO without Hooky? Oh FFS!
Can’t help thinking this latest spat has something to do with WFTSC. From remarks he's made about it not selling well, I get the feeling Hooky wasn't too happy with it. I'd go along with that. It’s not a bad album just missing that spark. Krafty is pleasant enough but not really memorable. Like the rest of it really. There are plenty of duff tracks on other NO albums but there were highs too. I'd go as far as to say WFTSC sounds like an electronic album. Maybe Hooky wasn't too interested on going back and digging up the leftovers or maybe there's a bit more of Hooky on the unreleased stuff and he's miffed the rest of the group don't want to release it. Anyway, all speculation.
As for the name wrangle, well they're going to have a real problem sorting out who owns it especially when the bloke who found the name is dead. All that will happen is they'll end up both being able to use it with a few million in the pockets of lawyers for the privilege. My suggestion is to give Hooky a quarter of the name preferably "ew" and the rest of them can carry on as NORDER. Alternatively they could all get a fucking life.....What I will say is if you leave a group, its logical to not really care about what happens to your old group. Hooky is in danger of ending up like Roger Waters did - Bitter and twisted on the sidelines.. As for Freebass.. well what a naff idea. Sort of thing prog rockers did in the 70's. Maybe Morris will form a Group called Drumsticks and drag in the drummers from Oasis, Inspiral Carpets and The Stones Roses. Or maybe he has a bit more self-awareness. The fact that Robbie Williams is interested should tell you something Hooky... :D

You're right, Jack. Maybe anyone else (You?) has designed Hooky's MySpace, and your Dad didn't noticed it or thought, it would be irrelevant.

Well, no, actually I think Norbert (and Sam Stokie) has a point. You old fella is threatening to haul in the lawyers if Steve & Barney use the NewOrder name and yet all his DJing is promoted as Peter Hook NewOrder.
