Interesting analogy, re: Roger Waters. Never thought of this in such terms before.
Could u spell it out? Im being thick and dotn get the analogy.
Just really the significance of the individual in the band.
No-one really seems to have given 'a shit' when Gillian left the band, but everyone's up in arms about Hooky's decision to quit saying he 'is/was' New Order's sound.
At the time Waters left Pink Floyd he almost certainly 'was' Pink Floyd too. But he officially quit the band thinking Pink Floyd would simple collapse without him. When it didn't and the others decided to continue he went to the high courts saying he wanted some say in the future use of the name Pink Floyd, etc, but didn't have a case and settled out of court, I think.
That's the basics anyways.
Well, Genesis survived Peter Gabriel's departure ;)
But they didn't survive when Phil Collins left.
New Order has 2 musical geniuses in it, they can survive, but the problem will always be the same, they will never be as popular as New Order.
To be honest, I was satisfied with Electronic and Monaco in the 90s, I will still continue to be satisfied if they do release new material.
I'll live with it.
It's sad, but gee, we all know that Hooky wants to tour more and the others are stopping him to do so...
I don't see why people would actually have a problem with this. My only "concern" is that it was made public, they should have kept it secret in some way, I don't really see the point of making it official... you can try to convince yourself it's some kind of publicity stunt, but it's not like it's going to help promoting anything since right now there is nothing to promote!
