Hooky's 'Statement' - Not good news for those holding out for reconciliation

The more I think about this, the more I think that if I were Hooky, and I read some of the wank on these threads, I'd NEVER lift a finger for any of us cunts again.

Much of what Jack said struck home I suppose. I couldn't imagine Barney kickin the security tapes out the way to let me and Owens and Snoop up on "stage" in laveries.

Disregarding all this petty bickering from the band members for a moment (anybody see today's MEN feature on the split?) and petulant bitching on Hooky's myspace page. The question has to be asked: Just how pointless would New Order be without Hooky?

I mean, seriously now everybody, just think about it for a moment. How can ANYBODY imagine New Order continuing (let alone evolving) without the bass playing and characteristic Hooky sound? I can't. It wouldn't be New Order. It would be Electronic. With Steve on drums. It would be also - arguably - be 5/11ths of Republic as well, but that's being really pedantic.

For the other two (not THAT other two of course, but the other other two) to carry on as they may well insist just sounds absurd. Come on now, we've had the best out of them, so why not just let the whole thing end there and then - close the book, complete the chapter and let things be. It would amount to a farce if New Order were to carry on writing under the name minus one of their most crucial personnel. It would lack gravitas and beggar credibility for one thing.

There's not much else they could possibly do now except lay platinum turds that sing back at us (at least by doing that we'd be spared the cabaret whoops and histrionics of Barney's dancing and gurning and the rest but beggars cant be choosers) so why not just accept that they are finished and content ourselves wiuth the rich legacy they have left us? After all, I think we're being just a bit greedy to keep wanting so much from them. Face it, they've already gone on way longer than we could possibly have expected them to, giving us an extra two albums in the process (and the gigs as well)...... and we all had them down as well and truly split up after Republic didn't we? We shouldn't really be complaining now this late in the day, because they've given us these extra couple of albums just when there could easily have been no chance of either of them happening at all.

RIP New Order. Thanks for the great music and the gigs and the memories.

Hooky's playing has more to do with his tonality and sense of harmony and melody than where his hands are. I play pretty high up when I can get away with it, and though it sounds "like" Hooky, it only JUST sounds like Hooky, the actual choice of notes is not right, only the original can create THOSE basslines.

Right, but the same people clamoring for the 'Hooky' sound would complain about anything sounding too familiar from somebody else. It's a catch 22: a different direction would be bitched about just as much as a faux-Hooky aesthetic. Sucks for Bernard and Steve, if they truly want to make more music together.

I disagree slightly...it would be the other 10/11ths of Republic,Regret being the 1/11th.

I actually agree with what was said, and I have some two cents' worth on the whole matter...

On my NOOL blog, Chapter 26, I finally posted on the situation with Hooky, Barney and Steve about to go chaotic [hopefully NOT] in the courtroom, complete with all of my common sense...

Last time around, I wrote: In all seriousness, all this mudslinging over what Hooky said should really not be happening. I mean, yes, Hooky said some things that would probably have some of us charging at him with mallets, clubs and sledgehammers but, come on, CHILDREN!! You can't really fully change Hooky at all, but you also have to remember that, sometimes you're just going to have to deal with disagreeable people. That's how life is, and that's the way it goes.

I have a bit more to say about it now, especially after reading further common sense from Jack...

I guess what I'm saying is what many others have or might have been trying to put it into words - that if, indeed, this is the end of the Order, then it's time to move the fuck on.

I hate having to say it like this, but this is basically what it boils down to.

So with that, from EVERYTHING that I have read, from all sides of the battleground of the bitching, here's my proper two cents' worth of common sense from the principessa of the Small-Town Order...

So Hooky's leaving the band? With everything he's done for the fans, and the fact that Barney and Steve haven't done very much at all since late last year, he probably has every reason to want out. And who could blame him? He's done so much more for the fans than we can really understand.

And while I'll always be an of 'til the day I die, Jack has made a very important point. Hooky's done all he could in the band. And I think some final thanks is due for the man.

Now as for the court dilemma, if this does get to the court, it's going to get ugly. But unfortunately this is the reality that we have to face, as fans and as a community here.

I guess the best thing we can do is hope for the best for the aftermath, and to move on with our lives. Hopefully this can be sorted out[-side] of the courtroom.

Come on, just because Hooky shows up at NOOL day or gives you the occasional hug, doesn't justify the way he's acting on his blog. It's not as bad as we originally thought. When Hooky wrote "See you in court!", he must have been referring to the Food Court at the airport (gate 36, Pizza Hut).

Relax people, New Order will be back in about 5 years and we'll probably get a couple more compilations in the meantime.
