Spot on, Fats. Spot on.

I'm not being melodramatic here but I'm welling up.

RIP Tony, so glad I met you numerous occasions, was inspired by you, and always looked forward to what you had to say - no matter how fucking pretentious or wanky it was - you always said it in style. You had style. Buckets of it, and the world will be a duller place in your absence.

New Order - FFS - do the right thing - a concert in his memory - then split - ammicably, and with dignity, and leave your legacy in tact.

You us, and Tony, and Rob, and Ian, and Erasmus, and Martin that.

Don't you?

Professor Robert Hawkins, his doctor at Christie Hospital, said: “It’s very sad. He died as a result of something unrelated to his cancer. His cancer was responding well to treatment but obviously did contribute to his poor health. He was determined to fight for funding for Sutent and it is especially sad that he has passed away as we seemed to be making some progress in the campaign. He wasn’t fighting for funding for himself, that had been solved by his friends. His efforts were for the people coming after him so it was very generous and not easy for him because he was so unwell. I hope that we will be able to continue what he has started.”

That would be an elegant outcome indeed.

Sorry to nit pick (or misread the post) but isn't Alan Erasmus still alive?

Just caught the end of that - Steve looked really cut up (as you might expect, I guess)...

Newsnight piece was great: Steve Morris (by video), Peter Saville, Paul Morley and ... Richard Madeley. Another excellent Tony Wilson moment.

I agree - he seemed very sad indeed, in his usual charming and low key way.

Terrible news.

Stephen Morris, Paul Morley, Peter Saville and Paul Morley are currently being interviewed about it on Newsnight on BBC 2. I will upload it later for people to view... all very surreal.
