Wasn't expecting this to happen for quite a while yet. CuanaD didn't seem to be either when I texted him...
There are very few that will ever change the world in the way that Tony did. One of the finest.
RIP Tony.
One of Tony's last wishes was for New Order to do a farewell concert.
I really hope now they will put their differences aside and do this in honor of Tony.
RIP, I will gladly put on 24 Hour Party People this week-end.
Ian Curtis, Martin Hannett, Rob Gretton, John Peel and now Tony Wilson... there must be a party going on in heaven!

now we're being selfish.

Yeah, its time to put the differences aside.
It's not to be selfish.. Joy Division is what put Factory on the map, it's the only logical thing to do...
Might not be now, but maybe next year like they did for John Peel.

6:05 Friday Evening, local time Just now perusing the RSS feeds.
it wasn´t true that from the moment you got cancer everyone started to love you and care for you. some of us did it from the beginning and were hoping to have more Tony for the years to come. tears are falling tonight. you won´t be forgotten, you shouldn´t...
i just want to add to my earlier post, condolences to his family and friends. i heard the news in a fleeting moment half asleep then realised what had happened 6.00am uk time
57, just like my father. Shit, 9 years ago I was outside the Apollo with Rob and Tony and it's freaky to have already lost them. God people are still so young at that age, they're not supposed to miss the next two decades or something, are they? He has been relatively lucky. Dying of a heart attack after a few months during which he has still been able to walk around and kept his brain sane, could have been much worse. I honestly expect Peter and Bernard to remember where they come from. Their childish arguments mean nothing now. I'm not expecting anything special, just some sign of unity in a moment like this. Then, in a few months, they can kick each other in the balls if they wish. But now please behave like true men from the Manchester of Factory, the label which has released at least the half of my favourite albums (not only albums, I was listening to 52nd Street yesterday knowing nothing about these sad news). Tony's Factory. Your Factory. Our Factory.
Just logged on and saw the news. Thanks for everything Tony, it's the end of an era and you will be sorely missed. Joy Division/New Order completely changed the way I looked at music.
Fuck.
Very tragic- I was watching Tony present local news many years before becoming an NO fsn.
RIP.

Looks like Hooky's prediction was sadly right...![]()
Sad, sad news.
Gave me the greatest band in the world and thus was partly responsible for some of the best days of my life. Thanks for the memories, Tony.
RIP and God Bless.
RIP Tony ,
just found out on the BBC site Real shock . very sad my thoughts are with his family .
This is so tragic. I feel like crap now. I knew it was imminent, but I didn't expect it to be this early. He may be gone, but his legacy will live on. My deepest condolences to his friends and family. RIP Tony, you will be deeply missed.
Run Wild, Tony Wilson
Open hearts Empty spaces Dusty roads To distant places But all the time When I'm alone I think of you And how you've grown
Far and wide Sweet and simple Jehovah knows That I've been sinful
But if Jesus comes to take your hand I won't let go, I won't let go
I'm not cruel And you're not evil And we're not like All those stupid people Who can't decide Which book to read Unless the paper Sows deceit
You're the kind of person That I've always wanted to be with We'll you're really cool And you always say the right things to me But now I'll tell you something From my heart beats for you deep inside But never be a burden And my love for you will never die, never die, never die, never die, never die
But if Jesus comes to take your hand I won't let go, I won't let go
But if Jesus comes to take your hand I won't let go, I won't let go
Good times around the corner Good times around the corner Good times around the corner I swear it's getting warmer Good times around the corner Good times around the corner Good times around the corner
I'm gonna live 'til I die I'm gonna live to get high
Heard the sad news when I was getting ready for work this morning. RIP Tony and thanks for the music you helped shape!![]()
Quite drunk and emotional last night, so please excuse my typos, but a few NOOlers have agreed with my romantic wish for one last New Order gig. For Tony. I'll start a thread
I last spoke to him in Newcastle last year, and as ever, he always great value. I totally refute this 'twat' thing. Opinionated, passionate, outspoken, stylish, mad, and a bit arrogant. Don't we all wish we were a bit like that.
I remember him doing a reading of 24 Hr Party People in Borders on Oxford Street right next to the children's book section and lots of plenty well-to-do middle class parents with their Barnabies and Jemimas in tow. Tony chose to read out very loudly, possibly the most expletive heavy section of the book right across the store. I actually winced, but thought 'fuck, he really doesn't give a shit'.
Tony was punk right through.
I'll miss the fucker.
