He made an impact on Manchester and it's music that is difficult to measure. That being said, I'm surprised at how affected I feel about hearing of his passing. Sad news indeed.

Perhaps "rest in peace" is not appropriate. Considering his gift of gab, and the music he was so passionate about, may he continue to make noise.

Paul Morley will be on BBC1 in a minute talking about it

They already showed footage of New Order at the Hacienda (Sunrise)

Just woken up and wife told me the news.

I had a vasectamy on Thursday but this news really is a bigger kick in the balls.

I've never lost a close relative but I feel like I have today.

Condolences to the family.

well… things wouldn't have happened without him !

That's a very sad news indeed. in fact I never thought I would have been affected by his death… but now I am as I probably realise that it's the end of an era.

What to say ? :(

(thanks for all the links on articles and on the bbc2)

First of all many thanks to the poster who put the link up to last night's "Newsnight".

But most of all, many thanks to a true legend, for giving us so much which meant...so much.

RIP Anthony H.

I remember him doing a reading of 24 Hr Party People in Borders on Oxford Street right next to the children's book section and lots of plenty well-to-do middle class parents with their Barnabies and Jemimas in tow. Tony chose to read out very loudly, possibly the most expletive heavy section of the book right across the store. I actually winced, but thought 'fuck, he really doesn't give a shit'.

Tony was punk right through.

I'll miss the fucker.

I shall never forget that little moment - even Richard Boon winced at that choice of extract to read out! He signed several copies for various Vikings, at least two of the regulars on here got their very own FAC number that night :)

im so crying right now.its someone i never met but made my life what it is through the music he promoted through factory.he has always been a great man in my eyes despite others slaggin him off.im so wounded and broken now.im so pissed off as well for the fact he had to pay for his treatment early on as he had no funds as he recieved no royalties for his factory work from london records 90

i didnt want him to die i checked on here yesterday to see if there was any change and this morning he is dead.im going to play new order and joy division all day in memorium to him and all his friends and close family.i hope the police dont turn up as i will play it loud.

I was the recipient of a Wilson message inked into a copy from that signing, care of a friendly Viking. Just slotting it into a dust jacket now. He really did give a sh*t.

Daresay none of us would be conversing here tonight without his consummate, irrepressible vision. F*cking inspiring.
