NEW ORDER

Paradise Garage, New York 7th July 1983

"I want all of you singing along for this one, all you Funhouse bastards." "Sorry to keep you waiting, we're just waiting for the sequencer to load up. We're not sorry really, we don't give a shit really. I don't, anyway." "Probably all Joy Division fans? Sussed you out, eh?" "Seldom...seldom have I ever met an audience more lethargic that we are..." "How does it it feel, to be stuck in front of a bunch of cunts like you..." (during Blue Monday) "I've never seen such a cunt like you before" (during Temptation) "we love you anyway!" (a punter shouts)

New Order 1984-08-16 City Hall Hull

"Our next song is a fast one, cuz we know that most of our audience are meatheads. So is Steve"

New Order 1985/12-13 Salle Du Baron, Orleans, France

Classic Hooky-ism before "The Perfect Kiss": PH: "Love the sounds of your own voices don't you, you boring bastards."

Classic intro to "This Time Of Night": BS: "Hi, everyone. Bonjour. A la nuit. This one is called, eh, Donset Time A La Neux(?). "Fromage a Potage. Fucky fucky. Fucky fucky."

Classic lyric change in "TTON", at 1:13 (in this re-tracksplit version): BS (singing): "The bass sequencer I cannot hear / If you turn it up, my ears will feel much better, Eddie / "I can hear the bass sequencer / Turn it up, you..." while Hooky fills in the correct backing vox.

thats what happens when im bored, any good barney moments you'd like to tack on?

She must've had a chronic condition over the years then.

Gillian and Barney, and Gillian and Steve have always played together on keys. There are many clips of blue monday where barney joins Gillian on keys, the strings on the song are simple to play, therefore barney must use it to kill boredom.

Finsbury Park:

Barney: Do we want Hooky to turn his base down a little bit? Yes. Crowd: NO! Barney: Actually this song is all me anyway, all me, you know, I wrote it, it's all my lyrics. In fact I don't need anybody else so if you want a break, just fuck off for a bit.

Bernard actually plays the higher string parts that come in towards the end of the song. Over the years, he has also played keyboards over the intro of Blue Monday and between verses.

On the 05 and 06 tours, Barney was playing so much keyboards on Blue Monday that he actually had his own Roland XP 80 set up just for him to play on Blue Monday.

Gillian is a superb keyboardist, and the melodies she wrote for New Order songs and what she brought to the band should never be underestimated. People need to respect Gillian Gilbert.

Thank you for the corrections Zachery, and yes Gillian has my respect. I don't really like phil, he doesn't mesh well with the others. Has Gillian ever done some kind of dance on stage? All the other members seem to burst into random, chaotic movements.

No, she just stand there without a care in the world looking hot!

Aw you are welcome sir!

I think Phil brings a good energy to the band when they play live, but he is not as good a synth player as Gillian. However, on the 05 06 tour, Phil did seem to be more interested in playing keyboards than he had before, and on the version of BM done on those tours, he did a lot of really cool stuff on the synths.

Gillian never really did any nutty dancing from what ive seen. She usually just stands there tapping her foot whilst concentrating on playing her keyboards.

If it bothers you then you can simply ignore it.

We should make a thread in honor of Gillian, she could atleast sing. I mean, no offense to Dawn, but Gillian has a way better voice, especially on "avalanche". She also has a very integral role in the early new order sound. She's also really good on guitar during everyone everywhere, and Leave me alone. If Gillian had any stage antics, I guess they'd be her glancing at the other band members as she slams away at the keys with her one finger style.

Gillian used to do a wonderful 'wobble one leg' dance when they were on stage.

When she left the band and stood in the wings during gigs she used to do a wonderful 'wobble one leg and put your fingers in the air' dance.

3:32 mark only works if you watch the video directly from YouTube's site. Anytime you embed a YouTube vid, it counts the time backward instead of forward.

The 3:32 mark is where Barney says "Turn this light off you cunt."

As much as I hate to dissapoint you all but Gillian was NOT the fantastic contributer/ performer that some of you make out her to be. Bernard and to a lesser extent Stephen wrote all of the keyboard parts and I am certain that they recorded them as well. I happened to see them live two dozen times up to 1987 and I can assure you that she is not in the same league. Apologies if I have leaked the big conspiracy.

Thank fuck for that - I wish people would stop being so defensive about Gillian - fact is, as pointed at above, is that Barney and Stephen were responsible for the electronic sound that made New Order stand out.

Gillian played some bits that weren't programmed or started sequences and played a bit guitar - she may have contributed more I dunno - I'm not having a go at Gillian, but essentially, the New Order sound was Barney's Italo disco influence coming through.

End of.

So Gillian was a bit shit and didn't contribute that much. Only Aussies and Americans could get their knickers in a twist about that:lol:

Sorry to break the news Michael but being a wanker doesn't preclude you from being a twat.
