Remasters redux

These sounds really great. Would it not make sense to master them all from the original vinyl though, rather than some from CD?

depends on the condition of the vinyl, the turntable, the needle, etc.. what is being used..

you can compensate for some of those things, and maybe the track will seem more consistent..

but if the person is skilled enough, you won't be able to tell.

could you tell which parts were from cd, and which were from vinyl, if they didn't tell you first?

JEB/Bruce - this is class stuff -very commendable, nice to see a non record exec bother to do the thing properly, as we all expected. The proposed recycle box-set project would be even just as good- saves my old battered cdr . You resigned from work to commit to all this neworder work

Actually, I'm at work right now.

Funny thing...my boss is a year younger than me (37), and he grew up in Milwaukee as a huge New Order fan. He's psyched to get this set, too. :D

question : if you do a recycle, do you plan spare tracks like the mark bell remix of WIM, the price of dub, touched by the hand of bias, arthur baker remix of TBTHOG from japanese CD ? Stuff like that ?

If not, maybe we could join forces with experts like -1 to do a special spare remixes CD ?

-1, if i do a list of whats left apart this wonderful project, would be nice to correct and amend it ?

oh, and whats TLU ?\Oh again, i m candidate to uploas any file to megaupload and sites like that. sometimes more efficient than torrent

trust me, i not THE expert here, there's plenty of people on here, that actually work on the discography and that own more than i do... i just take the information and collate it......

anyways, if recycle is to be accurate, it should include ALL official new order remixes like the ones you mentioned,

it SHOULD NOT include all the dj mixes, with the one exception of the 'subculture (record mirror)' remix because of its special circumstance (vocals re-recorded for it, i think)...someone can tell us why...

i'm pretty sure 90%+ of the other dj mixes are just simple cut/paste jobs, or have some samples thrown in for no good reason..

TLU= thieves like us forum , here on this board, which is dedicated to trading..

On all of these discs I'm thinking the 10-second spacer will either be it's own track, or, if we can figure out how to do it, some sort of countdown that doesn't just append a track with 10 seconds of silence.

A good way of doing this is to put in a 10 second pre-gap. Most rippers ignore pre-gaps (EAC excepted when you change settings accordingly).

Decent job cleaning up the audio guys! But, if I may make some suggestions? It sounds quite thin and really lacking on the low end, try balancing the eq out more and not cutting so much off from below 150 hz. then it should sound much much better.Just my suggestion, I know its your project :)

Awesome work! I'm very excited, can't wait to hear these remasterings. those remastered samples sounds very good. I only missed these good ones:

I think "Republic" could do with "World (the price of dub)" and "World (Perfecto Mix)" being there, especially the former which I've only got on 12".

No space for the Shep Pettibone 7" of "True Faith" anywhere?

If this a project to share, you should not do too much personal editing like changing the original albums much or leaving off "Behind Closed Doors" or "Rock Shitty Shack". Not that I disagree about the odd finished product that is Get Ready. At least put them on the same album disc. Hell, i would replace Crystal and 60 miles an Hour with the shorter single mixes if i had the choice. "Rock the Shack" is part of New Order's history, as poorly conceived, written, and produced as it is, you can't erase it from history.

Where is the Hardfloor remix of Blue Monday or the Perfecto remix of World? Those are two of the best from the 90s. Regret has an alternate 12" version produced by the band which is nice and deserves inclusion, and Regret has some other nice remixes.

Why not have an extra disc of 90s remixes and another of 00s remixes at some point, other than trying to choose between rare mixes and the more famous mixes. Put the more known mixes on the album "bonus disc" instead of getting too subjective.

if you're going to have them change the project to your preferences, then everyone else is going to want their changes too..

where do you draw the line?

wait until the project gets released, get it, copy it, add your own favorites to it, and then you will be happy..

instead of trying to justify your changes to their project..

it is more of logistics issue.... and why not be subjective? it's THEIR project..

i'm sure there will be more, i'm doing my own, that will 3-4 cds per each album, and have a lot more demos/live tracks/edits etc..

this project is a starting point for it...

Look, this is a time and labour-intensive project that I'm doing because I love the music. I can't and won't try to please everyone. I'm willing to share the work once this project and Recycle are done, and between the two projects everything pre-1990 will be available and most things 2001-present. Trying to include every Republic-era remix on CD is ludicrous, and no one - especially me - wants to hear 900 remixes of Blue Monday '95. The things I've left off are easily located on CD, so I encourage you to add those in if you want to hear them - I don't. The things I'm adding are vinyl-only or very hard to find.

You can find Get Ready in any record shop. You can find used CD singles of Crystal online for a penny. If you want to hear Behind Closed Doors and Rock The Shack then by all means add them in, but as I'm doing the work I'll imagine these discs the way I want to hear them and in a way that makes sense. Listening to a 2xCD set with multiple remixes of World (Price Of Love)? I may as well just listen to the CD single. It's about creating an overall picture of New Order in any given time period, not doing all the completists' work for them.

Seriously well done Sir! Regarding Technique I remember an amazing Ben Grosse remix of Round and Round on that tiny 3" CD single - it was called the 12" mix but was completely deifferent from Stephen Hague's vinyl effort. It's amazing stuff like this gets ignored while rubbish compromises like BlueMonday88 keep re-appearing.

I don't mean to complain, I just mean that there is a difference between a definitive approach and a personal mix tape approach, anybody/everybody could have a subjective mix and argue that it is the best based on whatever they feel like including at that moment. The Retro box sets' failing is because of the style of just being a personal choice pisstake on each disc.

I suppose people could edit things to their own liking, no matter what. I wonder if some guys edit movies to their own personal choice. Delete scenes or add deleted scenes.

Look at it this way - the Factory albums are intact. Nothing from the first 21 years of their career has changed. Nothing on WFTSC has been changed. Alongside Recycle, everything anyone could hope for will be available in glorious full-resolution audio. It's just this one album, which doesn't need a remaster treatment anyway, because it's only seven years old.

I've decided to try and fit Vietnam in there, but I stand firm on no Rock The Shack or Behind Closed Doors. Those songs are ass. Both discs of Get Ready clock in at over 77 minutes in length - there simply isn't room to include everything alongside the rare stuff I feel needs to be collected in one place.

I'm not the only member of the website who is capable of doing this project. Maybe someone will take up the challenge to outdo me on a definitive, "proper" Get Ready.

Seriously, this is great. I bitched and moaned about the official release on here and even proposed my own tracklistings (I like yours better by the way as it's more inclusive than mine). Not only would I go so far as to say that this far exceeds the regular issues (which I'm not planning on buying), but if these were to become available I would buy the London reissues just so it wouldn't seem that I was taking money out of the band's pocket just to get these and probably sticking these discs in the slots that the official ones came thereby having maybe the best of both worlds: your disc selections plus the packaging of the reissues (which is all that's new on offer for me w/ the official versions). Also, thanks for the two samples, they sound great.
