As with almost any modern release or remaster there has been a degree of limiting applied, it seems unavoidable these days. I've looked at a few waveforms and it's not as bad as on Singles and WFTSC so at least that's something.

...well these last few posts have finally made up my mind on these remasters. I won't be buying any of these remasters.
I'll keep my original Factory CDs - I have recently upgraded my Hi-Fi and now realise that the original discs are really not that bad. OK so they are quiet sounding but it's not too difficult - after all - to dial in a little more volume!
I have a full set of needledrops of the original UK 12" Singles made on a Linn Turntable - so the remaster bonus discs are pretty redundant for me as well.
What an appalling wasted opportunity these remaster discs are. This week I have been enjoying the Beatles remasters -which demonstrate how major labels can get remasters right if they want to. I guess New Order are pretty low on Rhino's list of priorities given the shoddy treatment they have been given. Sending a cheap free sticker with the replacement discs is an insult.
Just an FYI that my replacement discs arrived over the weekend (12 September) from Rhino US. I received the bonus discs for all five albums, plus a replacement for "Technique."
I reside in the US, but had actually purchased the London/Rhino UK editions. I had sent Rhino US pictures of my five "Collector's Editions" albums and received all the replacements, despite them being UK editions. While I would of course rather have UK manufactured replacements, I figured this was my only opportunity to get the corrected discs at no charge.
Rhino UK has yet to respond to any of inquiries on the replacements. It sounds like others have had similar experiences.

Yeah, I'm wondering this too... I am in the UK, and was told to send an email to Neworder.D2C@warnermusic.com asking for replacement discs. I got an acknowledgement at the time, but nothing since (even after a chase-up email a couple of weeks ago).
Anyone in the UK got these replacements yet? If so, how? Also, I've read the booklets have been changed too - did you receive these?

Got my replacement bonus discs today (for Movement & PCL).
One thing I noticed: the opening mix for Temptation 7" sounds different between the original remaster and the replacement remaster. It also seems like L/R channels have been swapped between the two versions. I don't have the original 7" to know for sure which is the accurate version, but I suspect the version on the original remaster is incorrect in terms of the channels, based on comparing with the 12" version. (However, no one seemed to flag that as an error previously so I could be wrong).
Mesh has a lot more tape hiss at the beginning. That's just an observation - not a complaint as I am not a fan of unnecessary hiss removal at the expense of the music.

Sent pics of CDs to Dr Rhino in the US and they shipped the replacements to the UK.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this. but might the new issues have (c) 2009 on the huge white cover sticker, whereas the original batch have (c) 2008?
Just a stab in the dark, but that might clear things up (you'd expect Rhino to differentiate them in this way at the very least).
Finally got my 'replacement discs'. Er.. what about Low Life? and the extra booklet in the new versions would have been nice. Haven't listened to everything yet but a few things cropped up that may be of interest.
1-Murder. there is a random tape noise at the start and barney counting 1-2-3-4. that may prove that they found the original tapes for some of these tracks.
2-the beach. very weird start. it was odd anyway so maybe this is what it should sound like. also ten seconds shorter.
3-Temptation 12" - Longer than usual at 8:57.
the remastering is a definite improvement on the original batch but a little too much limiting as predicted. i bet some sources were from the substance dat or something! look forward to hearing about the other differences/fuck ups!
Does anyone know if all the disc 1's are the same as the previous editions (except lowlife which we know about). Curious because someone further up the thread was sent a replacement technique which made me think that maybe they'd re-remastered the whole lot.
sorry, yeah definitely a bit extra at the start of temptation 12". Only a bit of quiet drum machine, nothing that exciting!

No. Apparently the main difference is that the old batch came in those clear plastic slipcovers thingies and the new batch don't have those. Also the new ones come with a second little booklet listing all the remasters in the series.

There's no sticker and no transparent slipcase on mine.

I listened Technique and LowLife today. Sunrise is OK. Technique was OK in 2008 and I don't listen any difference in 2009.

I've not listened to the remastered and original versions side by side (yet) but there are several differences and 'mistakes' such as at the beginning and places where the bass sequencer suddenly appears, at 3.40 mins for example. It sounds to me like demo or a rough mix that was then edited again for the final version.

Hmmm.. if it's not yet another mastering error, it sounds worth getting, then, after all! That would mean they actually did go back to master from original tapes, after all. Anybody able to confirm?

Course they did. In this case it sounds like they accidently got a different take or mixdown or just an unfinished version.
You're still going about re-reissues after a year it happened? That mixup completely made me give up on purchasing these CDs. I'd had all b-sides on mp3 anyway and my 1993 Technique CD (among others) sounds just fine.

Me too, ain't buying them.
I never had the albums before Substance before so I'm using this as my excuse to get them. PC&L is up next.
In case anyone is interested. The remasters have appeared in Australian stores recently.
I asked my trusted music retailer if these were the new re-remasters. He said he didn't know.
After much debate and reading on this forum, I went ahead and purchased Low Life.
The spine still reads P 1983, but the sticker at the front reads P 1985, as do the discs. Which by the way have the correct labels.
2 different stores had slightly different packaging. One had the plastic Collector's Editions slipcase and one didn't. I bought the one with the plastic Collector's slipcase (from my trusted retailer, as he said I could return it if it was crap). It contains the second booklet too, which makes me think it's the re-remaster.
The first disc still has the channel drop out on Sunrise.
The second disc sounds like the re-remaster. What I have listened to so far, all the clicks have gone. The disc does sound like the bass was turned up.
All in all not a bad little package, and quite cheap too at AU$22. It would have been nice if disc 1 had all the necessary corrections done too.

Yes, JB (City Store) have just put the remasters on the shelves a couple of weeks ago.
This is the second round of remasters I've seen, with the obviously faulty ones appearing in Big Star on Rundle Street last year. Big Star still has their there, unsold, going for AU$50.
