It seems their UK site is now down (NewOrderGetReady.com) and the US site hasn't been updated for so long (October 16th 2001).

What's the point of doing sites if you don't update them, IMHO, the band should start their own website or ask a fan site like NOO to become their official site and participate in the process.

Gee, do other bands close their website when their tour is over ?!?! New Order diserve better than this!

Personally, I'd be willing to do that if they give me some artwork and mostly informations...!! As far as I know, there are sites hosted by the band themselves (www.thecure.com) and some fan sites transfered as official sites (depechemode.com and petshopboys.co.uk), so why not New Order? Maybe Mr Scott can answer that one !

I completely agree - most people who like New Order seem to think that N.O.O. IS the official site - certainly more informative, better planned, etc. Bands like 'The Damned' have their own official site (can't remember the URL) and the band members occasionally post and run their own FAQ forums, such as 'Ask the Captain'.

I seem to remember a couple of years ago, The Damned actually asked, 'what do you want us to play at the next lot of gigs?' All credit to them - they DID actually play the most requested songs (some of them they hadn't played for nearly 20 years!).

Well, if Hooky wasn't just on a wind-up when he said that the band might go back to an independant label (their own new one) then perhaps, just perhaps N.O.O. might be asked to be the Official site.

Far more chance of World In Motion becoming an official site.

Hum, stop it right there!! don't go there, been there, done that, this will start to look bad if we go in yet another NOL vs WIM debate.

IMHO, a merge of both sites would be the best if the band was looking, which is not the case.. I already said many times it would be better to merge various New Order resources than doing 500 differents, the idea behing NOL was a merge of my old site and TPGWADP (N21's site) originally.. that didn't work because of the good friendship between Sébastien B. and Jonathan S., but still, the idea was there.

Another sad but true statement! Just a note that on IAN HUNTER'S site(MOTT THE HOOPLE...ALL THE YOUNG DUDES) he constantly speaks and replies to his fans.Makes you wonder doesn't it? :redhat:

I couldn't have said it better myself!!!

Although I do think they care about the fans, but just not at the level we wish they would.

A tad harsh.

There's plenty of circumstantial evidence to suggest they do give a rat's ass about their fans. Don't forget they're rather private people and accidental, reluctant music heroes even. Frankly that's part of the mystique and allure of the band. I'll pack it in the day I log onto the official NewOrder site and read about Steve's favourite pizza topping.

No one's forcing you to buy their records.

Apparently he favours a bizarre Japanese-based pizza topping comprising shredded pork, shimeji mushrooms, bamboo shoots, seaweed and shiso leaves. So now you know. ;)

Personally I think fansites should remain fansites - while it is nice to be given an official status, the whole relationship changes then, it ceases to become a labour of love and starts becoming a labour. Sadly I speak from experience, albeit with a sporting organisation rather than a band, and I can't look at Speedway the same way now.

Although I think this ain´t true, the point is: could we say that in an official website?

Methinks not :nono:

Maybe not the internet, but they do care about the fans. Hooky has gone on record stating that the fans are his main reason for doing what he does.

Looks like Gillian's been doing the cooking again. You're just lucky this isn't an official site or I'd be out of here.

Why not alter this website slightly if you want to attain 'official' status. You could remove the forums, then delete the multimedia section (far too fussy), maybe take all the current graphics off - instead, just have 1 static page that has a red bar going through, I don't know, a monochrome picture of a girl putting her jeans on, then put the songs off Getting Things Ready somewhere hidden and make sure the site crashes lots when you try to click anywhere. When that's done send random e-mails to the members who managed to actually join about forthcoming gigs and then after a while just cancel the site.

Surely that's more fulfilling than running this site?

Hooky does care about the fans, i do believe, as he has shown on several occaisions "i want to come down there and give every one of you a hug" but the others could care less what the fans want....

You're right Depth Charge, no one forces me to buy their records just like no one forces them to perform half ass versions of BLT, BM and True Faith just because they are their biggest hits......wouldn't it be nice to hear them put their hearts into a performance of Elegia or Sunrise rather than go through the motions...Barney says nearly the same shit every show and his whoops are Totally Predictable and Annoying...I personally love neworder and could care less if they visit the site to tell us what their favorite vegetable is or why the can't perform Perfect Kiss or Sunrise.

Show me, please show me the way....if i am mistaken about the rest of the band....but Hooky's the catylist for the tour and the album

I buy their music because i like the way it sounds, not because i think they're nice people.

Actually they are pressured to play these tunes and that's the problem. Bernard always laments having to play BM, but no doubt feels compelled to do so. They're at a point in their career where to pull crowds (and thus bankroll their tours) they need to play what the crowd want to hear. You can argue that these predictable well-worn hits always come across half-baked, or aren't what the crowd want to hear but you'd be incorrect. In most shows (especially the international ones), for every hardcore fan like us in the crowd, there's 50 part-time fans and 100 casual fans. They come to see NewOrder play BM, BLT, TF etc. And they don't care and mostly don't notice that the band are often going through the motions. There's simply not enough grass root support for NewOrder today to play all the esoteric stuff we want to hear (with the possible exception being hardcore UK shows). They're victims of their own success in a way and I don't perceive this as them not giving a fuck, it's a fact of life.

Most of us would like to see them mix it up a bit more live, but I think we should be happy for small mercies. Look at some of NewOrder's contemporaries: Smiths fans will never have new material to enjoy; PSB and DM fans should be aghast at the drivel that their heroes peddle today; and The Cure have devolved into self-parody. NewOrder have delivered us a strong album, some classic tracks and have even bothered to visit a few neglected corners of the globe. At this stage in their career, I'm not complaining.

Agree in principal. Considering some of the gigs they've had to play in the past year - in the main, festivals - and even as far back as 98 (festivals) and 93 (more festivals), you can understand why we get the Greatest Hits package.

But then considering the speed at which the October gigs sold out (less than one hour across the board?) and considering they did 2 consecutive nights in Manchester, 2 in Glasgee, then 3 at Brixton, to play the same set night in / night out was quite unforgiveable.

When I met Steve & Gillian last time, they were both 'lovely' very polite, seemingly interested in what I was saying and quite willing to chat. They also signed my Blue Monday '88 7" single that I had just bought second hand - I didn't even have to ask!

So - Steve & Gillian apparently care. Hooky loves playing live - so, part ego & part caring. Barney is quite humourous, smiley and chatty when you speak to him, and he doesn't have to be.

Basically, I would say that New Order dopn't care any LESS about their fans than most bands - they just don't go round hyping themselves up so much - even in the face of intense pressure from record companies...

I have to agree.. they should have changed the setlist for consecutive shows in the same town...

What is it to practice 2-3 songs more and to change the setlist a few times.

They still never played some Get Ready tracks, for instance Primitive Notion, Vicious Streak, Someone Like You and Run Wild, it would have been IMHO a good occasion to don't let a bunch of songs not played live :D

oh, they're wicked and they're LAZY...................Primitive Notion is indeed a classic and will probably never get the chance to be butchered by Barney....

As far as playing the same set on 3 consecutive nights goes - an example:

3 gigs at Brixton Academy - sold out very quickly, so one would presume that ALOT of people wanted to see them live.

Only Die-hard-nuts would want to go to all 3 gigs. Some of us only had the money to go to one.

If I'd gone on Wednesday (which I did) and they'd played a good set, but it didn't include Transmission or Love Will Tear Us Apart, but the Saturday set DID, I'd be a bit disappointed.

Playing the same set gives the maximum amount of fans the opportunity to see their favourite songs.

Just the way I see it, so I don't blame them - if I'd gone to all three gigs, I'd still have enjoyed it - every little counts after all.

Also, rehearsing, sequencing, etc takes time & money...

That's an interesting perspective, but I'm not 100% convinced. I think that they think the set works, so why change it ? Either that or they are too lazy to invest the time in rehearsals. We know they can't be arsed to get people (Roger Lyons) to sequence other stuff for them, or even to play stuff (Here To Stay) when he has done it.....

I really think they are lazy and not-so-good musicians since it might take them a lot more time to rehearse a song than another band would.

If you check out the setlists The Cure have been playing this summer, you'll see that when a band wants to play, they can. It's incredible how many different songs this band (The Cure) can play from a night to another.

If they weren't so lazy, it wouldn't be THAT difficult for New Order to learn 10 more songs and program them (ask Peter Schwartz to do it!!!!!), so that they can play with their setlist a little. Besides, a lot of these songs do not need ANY programming at all (Leave Me Alone, Age of Consent, Run, Loveless, Guilty Partner, etc.).

If they'd learn 10 more songs, it would give them around 30 songs to play with. Still very far away from the 150 or so that The Cure can play you instantly, but still an improvement over the current situation...

You're quite right, they could do it if they could be bothered, and we'd all love to hear some of the back catalogue. I've got no idea why they won't, only they know I guess. It sure spoils it thogh when you get the same set every night, and half-arsed versions of Brutal just don't cut it for me as a bit of variety. To be honest, I was dreading Old Trafford for that very reason, so it was a really pleasant surprise to get Love Vigilantes first up.

One thing that may work out ok is that there's enough time now between today and the next scheduled shows (sometime around the next album, early 2003) for Roger Lyons to get on with programming Perfect Kiss !!!!! Surely they won't get him to do all their sequencing in the studio ?
