and it was the only time i got to hear 'blue monday' on the radio here in America...

i've never heard the original version played on the radio ever..

'beach buggy' is pretty cool too..

just been listening to Beach Buggy for the first time in years. I forgot how much I really like it, especially from 3 mins 50... Also is 'Blue Monday (Dub Version)' the "DJ Only Mix' (Fac 73 - R B)..?

Yes, it was released as the Dub Version in North America.

I've noticed that with True Faith too. Any time I hear it on the radio or some Muzak station in a store, it's always that 1994 version.

Never had a problem with Blue Monday '88 myself. Perhaps a remix was unnecessary, but it's still a cool song I think. I've always felt it served as a nice sampler for what was to come next, an important transition point for the band. The video is fantastic: One of my favourite New Order clips.

I am waiting with bated breath for these next three. Fine Time indeed...for 1988-1989 that's an understatement...

i guess for me,

the blue monday 88/touched by the hand of God releases pretty much ended the last vestige of what 'new order' stood for..

i've NEVER liked 'fine time' and most of the singles/tracks/albums afterwards mark probably the worst musical period in their history for me..

yes, i kept following them, and hoping it was going to improve, and with a few exceptions, and a handful of songs from the further albums..

nothing interested me as much as their earlier work did..

'fine time' was the exact opposite of what i expected from new order..

that and the album were way too sleek, commercial, and sanitized to be 'new order'... it captured the era, but there was plenty of other music coming out at the time that did also... so why did new order have to do it?????

will be interesting to at least revisit it briefly though.

Technique is my favourite album.

I agree that later they became too commercial and sanitised (I hate Republic) but Technique is a great record and I don't think is overly commercial at all. At the time it was in the vanguard of UK dance music that changed music in this country forever.

I can honestly say of all the diff music I have I can't think of a better four songs in a row on anything than side B of Technique.

I think it's funny to say they just reflected the times as a lot of other bands were influenced by house music a year or two later (eg: Happy Mondays) but New Order deffo were the first to incorporate it into their music and make it their own successfully, so I'd say they were the originators who first synthesised the two and it was the later bands who just reflected the times. Think how nowadays virtually every rock band has a drummer who can do "dance" rhythms as well as more traditional rock. Pre-technique all pop/rock mainstream drumming was totally boring 4/4 time most of the time.

Thanks a lot guys! Sounds great! The fact that the Silk mix isn't the regular 12" mix and that the latter was never released on CD is new to me. A good surprise indeed!
