It's twee, bland and utterly forgettable. Sad really, I was looking forward to this album.

Its a very upbeat, poppy, catchy album, full of nice, uplifting melodies and solid songwriting. Bernard's voice sounds fantastic, he is very expressive, and I would say this record actually contains some of his best vocal work.

Sink or Swim is, of course, a cracking single..

But...for me....the next best song is..

POISONOUS INTENT.

It's a fantastic track and totally reminds me of Technique era New Order.

It starts off with the strange sort of country fiddle guitar before a dancey beat, funky bass, and wash of icy synths kick in and take the song off into the air. The song has a fat electronic bassline and lots of thick, fat synth stabs and synth melodies, as well as some really cool programmed percussive bits, and its three kinds of guitar styles, the fiddle-ish style that starts it, some some rock power chords,and some funky New order/Happy Mondays guitar lines.

Its a great song, great melody, very dancey and electronic, lots of great synths and guitar work, and it should rock live.

Its a good album! I really like it!

I thought I was the only one who felt like this, you are right about POISONOUS INTENT it is a GREAT song, I like the part when he says HIT THE ROAD JACK at the end of the song with the nice dance beat.

Yes I do love Poisonous Intent. Listened to it 5 times in a row. I was hoping there would be a big epic synthy dance track on this record, and PI is it. I wonder if Steve drummed on it? It's definately the most New Ordery song on the record and would make a great second single as its catchy and you could make a radio edit for it.

I also like when he sings "Hit the Road jack", very nice Ray Charles reference there.

I have bought the album but ll this downloading thief element i leave to my son!So as i have got it fom Amazon will probably be several days after release before i hear it.I don't really get excited about much music these days.Ain't purchased any remasters neither but that's only because i don't even listen to the originals much.Life got much better for me several years ago and i have moved on a bit.Probably Sink again but who cares?

Serious question, what's with Barney's unnerving joie de vivre ('life is a precious thing' etc)- I've never exactly pegged him as Mr Positive?

I kinda sensed that vibe on 'Krafty' back in 2005. But I don't mind it, cause at his age, I'd rather see him seemingly happy with life than grumpy.

Agree, the best song of the album so far....maybe i'll change my mind later, but it is a really great tune.

I listened to NCAT last week and thought it was worth 3/10. However, I was in a grumpy mood and decided to give it another couple of listens this week.

I'm glad it features more guitars, and I don't think it's a bad album. However, it's not very good either. My view of it has improved. Still very bland though, so 4/10. Sounds like an album of fillers and 'B' sides. Most of them seem to be bits and pieces taken from New Order songs and almost directly taken from other bands.

Shame really as Bernard does have talent. :(

That's one thing I noticed about Summer Days on Holiday---that the drums sounded like 'Got to be someone'.

This is not the best stuff he's done quality wise, but it's a pleasant-to-listen, easy-on-the-ears guitar-pop album overall, IMO.

Soundwise, I like this kind of rock. More like pop influenced rock...not 'ballsy', but kinda sweet and poppy.

Maybe we've been spoiled with the New Order back catalogue.

"The Other Two And You", "Music For Pleasure", "Twisted Tenderness" are all better than this album - all different, but they all make you sit up and listen properly at least once or twice.

I won't be buying the album and I'll be giving away my promo.

Whatever we think of the album or the songs, we're all listening to the same piece of music. It's just different impressions I guess.

I said that I liked this kind of sound---but then, I can understand how other people might hear this sound and think 'it's got no balls' (or whatever they say), or that it's too bland or mushy pop-influenced stuff..

Surely, more than the fans, I think it's perhaps Bernard Sumner himself who's more aware that it's difficult to live up to the whole legacy (JD & NO).

No matter what he does, the media and people will say or think 'yeah but he did songs like Blue Monday and this and that and blah blah blah...'

Bernard's problem is that people, especially new fans who discovered New Order's back catalogue in the 00ies, expect something as groundbreaking as New Order were in the 80ies. A new EGG or Perfect Kiss. But he's 53, obviously a Neil Young fan, and all he wants to do are some perfect, well crafted pop songs for frustrated broken 40-somethings stuck in their offices. I think it's OK what's he's doing, I even pretty like some of the songs on the album, at least he's not milking his legendary past. But don't expect him to be something he is not anymore.

'Home' is also great. And the following songs also. A sunny, heavenly album!

Let's imagine I had downloaded the album... If I had done that, I'd say it sounds, bizarrely enough, a bit Get Ready-ish. I'd also say that "Twist of fate" and "Poisonous intent" are awesome songs, much, much better than "Rock the Jam", "Slow Shack" or "Working is a useless emotion", to name but three. I'd even make a passing remark about how it sounds miles better than that pile of cack Hooky and Potsy released in late 2000.

Totally agree. I also like very much This is home. The only one that I jump is Dynamo. Even Shine like the sun, that Bernard don't sing, is great. Great album.

I always remember listening to John Peel R.I.P when 'Regret' was released and he played it on his show and commented on how NO were a band that never let you down and I share this sentiment upon listening to NCAT. Alright, it's not NO but any chance to hear Saint Bernard at work again is ok by me. Struggling to find a track I don't like and that's got to be a good thing - don't think I've heard as good a vocal from Bernard on 'Twist of Fate' for a long time!

Remember how Barney said he had an antenna in his head & came up with his song ideas by tuning in to the thoughts of his fans or some such bullshit? Well, looks like it's true. It's our fault 'CAUSE WE'RE ALL OLD NOW! At least he's not singing about employee evaluations and dropping the kids off at school. He isn't, is he?
