I do think I am the only person in the northern hemisphere who likes Dynamo. Although, who the F*** knows what a hound dog is, outside of Graceland?
i love Dynamo. it is about as far as one can get from new order, and i like that, cause the song surprisingly works.
all the NCAT hat0rz can go back to 1983 and listen to Age of Consent for the 100000000th time.
often, my fave records are meh when i first hear them, but then they grow on me. pretty sure i was hesitant at first about all the records that are now considered classics. one of my fave lps of all time, Technique, I recall being a bit hmmmmm about on first listen.... but then it sucked me in.
NCAT gets better each listen.
i feel sorry for folks who cannot chill out enough to enjoy this.
(i am surprised AJ Wells is not here yet, joining all of you in the Sumner pillaging....)

I think it is pretty much whoopless. You have to provide your own whoops.
There is on #4 a voice that sounds like it is on helium saying "higher" in the chorus. It is stupid IMO.

I am with you, this album is great how can people not enjoy this album, when it comes out I think the general audience will love it, people on this forum are too serious and critical, I know when I hear good music and this is good music.

Whoever said Dynamo sounds like Won't Get Fooled Again is right. Would've been way more clever if they made the synth/sequencer sound like EGG.

I really wanted to enjoy this album ,and had hoped for a cracker. I have played it enough times and still find it really boring. I'm not being critical .I'm even off to see them live next month.

Is Barney even TRYING to grab your attention in a meaningful way? Doesn't seem like it. Seems like it is suppossed to be nice and kinda bland. If you want nice, safe, and bland, here you go.
Some of the songs are nice, have melodies that remind you of past songs. The record fades in the second half. Some of the production seems like he could have used a second opinion. I suppose some could argue that Barney is being cool by being uncool, others may think he is just getting old. Sure it is nice to have him at work again, you just have to have your expectations set low.
not getting the doves comparisons - there jsut isn't the same gorgeous uplifting yet still melancholic feel to it
that said, it's pleasant enough will prolly still get the version with the extra 7"
Not as bad as I expected, at least as good as WFTSC (which is my least favorite NO album...). Twist of Fate is actually the better WFTSC. But I didn't like Run Wild, so I don't like Runaway.

The intro to Head Into Tomorrow, whilst mostly sounding like Led Zepplin, contains an element that sounds as if it was stolen wholesale from Where We're Calling From.

I love Never Cry Another Tear! Cannot wait to buy it when it comes out!
Its a very upbeat, poppy, catchy album, full of nice, uplifting melodies and solid songwriting. Bernard's voice sounds fantastic, he is very expressive, and I would say this record actually contains some of his best vocal work.
The whole record sounds very New Order-ish, I would say a sort of mix of bits of Technique and Republic, with a lot of WFTSC thrown in. Its got a lot of really great, tasteful guitar work, and the songs are general pretty catchy. There are synths on the record, they add a lot of nice subtle melodies and counter melodies to the guitars.
It's not a mind blowing groundbreaking record, but its a lovely record with great, melodic, melancholy yet uplifting songs. It has a very New Order-ish feel to it, but you can hear somes Doves and Smiths influences as well.
Sink or Swim is, of course, a cracking single..
But...for me....the next best song is..
POISONOUS INTENT.
It's a fantastic track and totally reminds me of Technique era New Order.
It starts off with the strange sort of country fiddle guitar before a dancey beat, funky bass, and wash of icy synths kick in and take the song off into the air. The song has a fat electronic bassline and lots of thick, fat synth stabs and synth melodies, as well as some really cool programmed percussive bits, and its three kinds of guitar styles, the fiddle-ish style that starts it, some some rock power chords,and some funky New order/Happy Mondays guitar lines.
Its a great song, great melody, very dancey and electronic, lots of great synths and guitar work, and it should rock live.
Its a good album! I really like it!

I don't know how that torrent shizz works so haven't heard it and to be honest, I've not given the new Cribs or Mew albums the rotation they deserve over the last week so, on that basis, I'm afraid I won't be investing.....I'm out.

You are making a big mistake by not listening to the BL album it is great, I heard the Mew and the Cribs and wasn't that impressed with it to buy or download it, the cribs has one song called " we share the same skies" which is good.

I thought I was the only one who felt like this, you are right about POISONOUS INTENT it is a GREAT song, I like the part when he says HIT THE ROAD JACK at the end of the song with the nice dance beat.

Must admit I was pleasantly surprised by the first half, by Barney's vocals, tasty melodies and yes, Jake's Doves influence for sure. I like his voice and have to say that Barney's vocals are some of his best, really stretching out in places. Production's really nice too, Sink or Swim gets a new life and sounds nowhere near as naff as the acoustic version. Just if only I could place that riff...
Sadly for me it evaporates into blandness half way through, with Dynamo possibly the most woeful song that Barney has been involved with. All those sea and sky and 'hey now watcha gonna do' lyrics are dire beyond belief IMO.
Serious question, what's with Barney's unnerving joie de vivre ('life is a precious thing' etc)- I've never exactly pegged him as Mr Positive?
So it's 5 out of 10 for me so far. There's enough to warrant a further listen or two but not much to get excited about.
Initial thoughts were good, 7/10 overall, it's been on my work computer constantly since yesterday morning and has now moved up to 7.5/10
Sink or Swim is pleasant enough, but personally I would have preferred Twist Of Fate as the single, cracking track that is. Summer Days On Holiday didnae appeal too much at first, but this one's a grower, even with Barney's traditionally cheesey lyrics. This Is Home is easy listening, the lad definitely reminds me of Jimi from Doves and I like Barney's backing vocals, not too sure about the higher higher higher bit, reminds me of the J-E-T part on Jetstream. Barney always likes at least one slow song which leads into Runaway, fuckin digging this track an all, an instant likeable song for me. Running out of luck is aptly named, not a big fan of this, but at least Dynamo is growing on me a bit.
Poisonous Intent, don't care what anyone says, this is aimed at Hookythis is another of the standouts for me, gotta say it drags on and would have been better served around the 3 minute mark, this woulda made a decent single an all. Shine Like The Sun is likeable and growing on me, not too sure about the Harmonica on it though. Head Into Tomorrow is one of the few that hasnae grown on me, it should have been a b-side. The music is alright, nothing groundbreaking, but the production is non existant really, maybe that's how Barney wanted it, a wee bit raw? Nevertheless, cannae wait for the fookin tour. Roll on London

'Twee' and 'chronically bland AOR' aren't the same thing. That said, all I'm judging it on is that 'Sink Or Swim' video and the myspace stuff from a few weeks ago. All of which sounded awful.
The single has grown on me a bit. Haven't heard the LP. Will buy it out of (eternally misplaced) loyalty without having sneaked a preview, probably play it twice, and then never listen to it again. Like Graeme says, we all knew it was going to be tripe.
Now, when are we getting all those New Order 'official live bootlegs' we were promised some time ago, eh?
