Factory Opening

Liam, I'm not really sure what I did to deserve any of that, or what this project has done to upset you so much.

You're quite right that the Factory connections interest me, but thanks for pointing that out to everyone. This is a New Order site, people come on here because most of them share an interest in this sort of thing. Why would they come here if they weren't? Perhaps you could answer that.

People are putting these Hacienda revival nights on because, as I understand it, they are popular and they make money and they make people happy.

This new club is using the Factory connection for a bit of extra publicity and face it, it needs all the help it can get in the present economic climate. And at least the Factory connection is real, not like most of the clubs and venues around the world that plaster a bit of hazard warning tape around their flyers and hope that people will make a connection.

In fact, people will probably be interested to see this place as much because it was a pretty good nightclub for a few years after Factory moved out.

Congratulations on all of your nights out, that's a great achievement. The fact that I will probably not see your pissed-up, obnoxious face at Hooky's club is probably a bigger draw than the maple floorboards.

If people are deluded enough to think this wont be an overpriced shithole, then fine. Of course, I would be most in favour of the opening night lineup being exactly the same as the Monaco gig at the Ritz in 2007, because you would expect the same derisory amount of people to attend (or less, because I wont be there, nor would at least two other people I know).

Even if the Factory connection is genuine, (which, I suppose it is, but its very weak) it still doesnt stop the venue from overcharging people to hear stuff which was in vogue 20+ years ago. And thinking about it, does the official tag really make that much of a difference? No, of course not. We all know about Hooky's DJ-ing skills, (or lack thereof). What the official tago does add is a premium, people are being sold the factory name and a 'genuine' link. And people will be charged for that? Furthermore, we've all been to a ton of 'unofficial' nights, does it really make that much of a difference? Apart from the fact that (some of) your money is going to someone who is currently charging £18 to hear them talk?

Liam- although you might be right in some of the things you are saying you have to remember that there are many 30-40 somethings with families who don't have the time/ wherewithal to listen to, or indeed get out to see these fantastic new bands. Seeing/ hearing old favourites at least guarantees a decent night out unlike the roulette of seeing a new band.

I suppose i should take note of your ever all-encompasing opinion, as it's always right, and never should be questioned as incorrect, why should anyone doubt you listen to better music than everybody else, you're Liam after all. I'm sure you're views on pricing at the new club are based on thorough research, having frequented it for some time, and observed all it has to offer clubbers and performers eh? or are you quite happy paying a fiver for a can of red stripe in night and day, as they cram 5 bands onto the stage, with an engineer running the P.A. who REALLY doesnt like ANYBODY, all because Guy Garvey bought a cup of coffe there once.

There are so many places that play decent music! If you want to hold onto the past then either get yourself down to one of the seemingly weekly Hacienda reunion nights that happen across Manchester.

What makes you think this will be anything different than an overpriced 5th Av with the ocassional band on? There are hundreds of venues across Manchester catering for all kinds of tastes, plus a ton of gig venues. Does the city really need another one, especially one so grounded in the past?

What is wrong with playing some good indie classics along with new bands? It almost sounds like you are ashamed of Manchesters glory days.

Whats even funnier Jack is that you've been coming on the board for years now, making various implied comments that Freebass are going to do this, do that, do the other, and it never, ever happens.

I presume this is a tacit gig announcement? I dont see what else it could be.

But I'll tell you what. £20 to Cancer Research says Freebass or the next band Johnny Marr joins doesnt play this venue by 31st December 2010.

What this really is, is a chance for Hooky to cash in, which is more than fair enough seeing how much money NO lost over Factory / Hacienda in the past.

If anyone feels this is an affront to human decency then the answer is simple; don't go.

Paradise Factory was there for quite a few years, which was a club. It started off as a strictly gay club but became progressively less so.

It has been empty for the last few years except for 6 months where The Warehouse Project took it over and ran a series of nights.

Yup, as Johnny James said, it was a club as recently as recently as a couple of years ago - a couple of mates went the day before that Hacienda Warehouse Party under the railway station.

So, as usual, the NME has got it completely wrong!

I'm a bit gutted I can't make this. I was also supposed to be going to see Hooky DJ at Bar Bliss in Leigh that night, but now I can't do any. :(

I was surprised too. I got invited to the Leigh event a couple of months ago, so I suppose he might have cancelled. But there are other DJ's to cover at the Factory night so maybe he'll hotfoot it over to guest in Leigh and be back before the end (he does drive fast afterall)
