Steve, you say on your site quite clearly that Freebass are making their live debut at this event. Thats clearly not the case. So why make the claim?
I've also recieved various texts and seen various things on Facebook about Freebass playing. Yet its not happening is it? Why were things like this spread?

Well, seems to me the opening night of the club is exactly what i said this club is going to be about. Its going to be about the old crew harking back to the good old days. And weekly Hacienda nights? On what night? A Saturday. Yep, really doing a good job there for new and upcoming musicians there.
ETA: Here is a link to Steve's website, where it explicity states that Freebass will be making their live debut on this night.
By the way, any mention on cost of this yet? For what effectively is a tribute band, I bet its expensive.

Why not just say "I don't fancy this much, but you lot go ahead, each to their own" or do teachers not bother with tolerance, opinion and diversity?

Well, considering the last time I saw Hooky do a gig like this, it was without question the very worst gig I have ever seen, I probably would go and see David Cameron and the Feltchers.

Liam, I can't remember the last time you said anything positive, about anything! It can be pretty draining. You were in nappies when the Hac was in it's heydey and I'm sure this might have a little to do with your opinion of anything Factory/Hacienda related.

My negative opinion of msot things Factory based are because it has become everything that it was set up to opppose. Almost Animal Farm like, if you will. I'm sure the original factory was about giving new bands and artists the opportunity that no one else would give. Or am I wrong about that and it was in fact about harking back to the old days with one member of a band playing songs from his old bands back catalogue?
Seems like Hooky is turning in Manchesters version of Mike Love.

I wouldn't say anybody's opinion is shit just because it goes against what I think, that was a (supposedly humorous) reference to the TW book!
But you are so negative about anything Factory related. Why do you care if some of us are looking forward to this? You always feel the need to rain on the parade, so to speak.
You don't want to give Freebass a chance, or the club, but this project is all about showcasing bands as well. Is that shit too?
You refused to see Bad Lieutenant at Christmas, when you had a ticket, and all of us were going in. I don't understand that mentality. At least watch them live before declaring them shit. I'd have a bit more respect for your opinion then.

I wanted to wait to the last minute to get a ticket because of the fucks up with my original
I went to meet Deano, who I hadnt seen in ages

Jemma, this project is not about new bands. This is about another money spinner for the old boys. Weekly Hacienda nights? On a Saturday? Look at the name, look at the the opening nights. This isnt about the present. This is about the past, and making a(nother) quick buck out of it.

I presume you missed all the publicity and elicitations from the Factory staff, encouraging unsigned bands to send in demo tapes and submit the URLs to their websites/Myspace pages.
The result of this was that hundreds of new and exciting bands are now on the roster to play at The Factory, giving them a higher profile than they might otherwise have had, so your supposition that the original Factory ethos isn't being followed is incorrect.
The reason that Freebass are not playing is because it's a night to celebrate the opening of the club, not to showcase one band, but members of many, past and present.
Freebass will play when they're ready - whether you appreciate the wait or not. As people have said, if you're not interested, you don't have to go.
I respect your opinions - as opinions can never really be wrong - I may well disagree with them though.
As for re-hashing the past, etc. I'd suggest that most people would use past success to promote a new venture on which many people are relying - for jobs, interest, good nights out, etc.
You are, of course too young to have seen "The Factory All Stars" at the original Hacienda - something which you seem to have missed in your criticism of the event - A celebration, rather than a money-making exercise.
For the record, the ticket price is very reasonable for a launch night - far less than one would pay for the average gig.

I didnt miss the publicity. To be fair, it was quite hard too. But the fact is, if there are bands nights (which I know there are) they are being hidden away on a weeknight. They are not put at the centre of this project. No, centre stage belongs to the old boys, proof of that is the weekly old school Hacienda nights. Saturday is the big night, and look whats going on then.
Your points about Freebass dont really answer any of my points I raised earlier. Why was it spread, and allowed to be spread, that Freebass were playing? Have you forgotten thats its been nearly (in fact, it might be over, but Freebass were announced in the run up to Sirens Call) five years since this project was announced? Bit of a piss take surely, what with the seemingly never ending blogs, interviews etc about it all?
I find it amazing that you are naive enough to believe that this is about celebrating bands past and present? Unless you truly believe Freebass (five years, and counting) as a contemporary band? No, its an ego trip, showing precisely whon is going to get centre stage at this venue.
And I dont think the Factory All Stars argument is relevant, because guess what? That was also in the past!
And for a covers band, in Manchester, I'd expect to pay no more than a fiver. Bet its more than that. Double figures at least.
Liam, your whole approach to this is like a drunken 6th form conversation. If you're that interested in new bands why aren't you a promoter? Why haven't you got a night at some small music venue where you can put on shite bands that a handful of people want to go and see? Why aren't you in a band?
Like everything else in life it's supply and demand - if enough people want to cough up some brass to go have a good night out with friends, being entertained, being reminded of their youth then what the hell is wrong with that?

But I do get about a fair bit, not as much as I used to I admit, checking out new bands. And a lot of the time, its quite sad to see a great band playing to hardly anybody, because people have the attitude that they are playing in a small venue so they must be shite.
And the same old argument you've been wheeling out for years, i.e. that I'm a Smiths fan and a Tory is really tiresome, not to mention irrelevant.

Yup. One of the guys who invested time, money, reputation, etc. in the whole project. He's also made it quite clear that other people are "starring" in the opening night celebrations. If you had the talent and could pull the crowds, wouldn't you do the same?

And looking forward to the future of a new venue/club that intends to introduce a plethora of new talent to the gig/club-going Manchester public. It will also serve as another tourist attraction for Manchester. It's part of the city's cultural history.

Very few unsigned acts would expect to play a Saturday night. It's as much a club as a live venue. The club nights may well subsidise the new bands playing.

Not a tribute band - as previously stated, similar to the Hacienda appearance of the "Factory All Stars". The tickets aren't expensive. I'm not well off, but I could still afford a trip to Manchester and a ticket for the opening night for less than the cost of a London show...
