Gillian Bernard Steve Phil and Tom Chapman....UPDATED

Two concerts in Belgium and Paris 17th and 18th Oct.More details to follow.

New Order have announced they will play two live shows in Europe in October this year.

These will be the first New Order shows since November 2006 and they see Gillian Gilbert return to the band. Her first performance with New Order was in 1980 when the group played The Squat in Manchester.

The full line-up of the band for this outing includes Stephen Morris on drums, Bernard Sumner on vocals and guitar, Gillian Gilbert on keyboard and guitar, Phil Cunningham on guitar and keyboard and Tom Chapman on bass.

Conspicuously, there is no sign of Peter Hook in the line-up after his acrimonious split from the band in 2007. These gigs will be in Brussels, at the Ancienne Belgique, on the 17th of October and in Paris, at the La Bataclanon on the 18th of October. They are benefit shows in aid of the renowned artist and film producer Michael Shamberg. He produced several of New Order's music videos, including the Brit Award winning True Faith, Touched By The Hand Of God and Regret. Shamberg has been struggling with a debilitating illness since 2005.

Bernard Sumner explained why the band wanted to help him: "Michael has been with us from the very start. Initially he was in charge of Factory New York, then became creative producer for all our early videos.

He brought our attention to the early works of Directors such as Kathryn Bigelow, Gina Birch, Robert Breer, Peter Care and Phillipe Decouffle. Michael is very ill and needs constant medical attention. We want to help him, and these shows will contribute financial support towards his ongoing care."

Meanwhile Gillian Gilbert had this to say of her return: "It's been a long ten years since I took a break from the band, so I I'm really happy to be back, and this is a great place to start.

Michael is a very good friend, and I want to help him, so it's perfect timing for me to comeback now."

Be nice if they did somewhere in the UK too

Does that mean Phil on Bass Guitar,it must do.Unless Gillian wants to have a go at it..:)

I thought they couldn't use the name or continue under the name New Order any more because of Hooky? Or is this an exception because it's for charity?

That's what intrigued me too!

Maybe she meant 'to start in music again', not necessarily New Order full time. For example, she hadn't been releasing music much since she left New Order (although I remember she and Stephen did that remix of Nine Inch Nails), and recently, The Other Two reformed, so maybe this year or so is a 'place to start' in music once again.

That is a battle yet to be fought, both sides have been avoiding it so far. I expect this announcement will kick start potential action however.

Like I said above, I just hope there are no troubles (legal or anything else too) about these charity gigs.

The fact that they carried on as New Order after Gillian left could have set a precedent,but that was of course in different circumstances,is it a bit premature to be booking flights to Paris I wonder..

I don't get back from the US until 08.00 on the day of the second gig. After a bastard long two weeks of travelling out there. And Ryanair fly to Paris every day except a Tuesday. Baws.

Strange news, leads to excitement but still a bit strange.

Nice to see Gillian back on the frontline though.

Who's Tom Chapman?

I'm due to go to Germany two weeks after these shows. As I don't have the means to do two transatlantic trips in a month (hell, in a year), I'm going to miss this. I am a SAD PANDA.

Fookin hell this is AMAZING news, totally unexpected. Great to see Gillian back, obviously not true NO without Hooky but beggars and all that.... Not sure if i can afford a european gig hopefully this will kick start a UK mini tour. If not and this is definitely a one off may have to take a trip abroard.
